Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

QOTD--I stop tracking my exercise and weight. I normally do this daily. Then I start cutting back on the exercise, then I start eating more. Last time I started drinking diet soda again after having been off it for 6 months or so. And my binges always included diet soda and chips, dip and chocolate. Fortunately, this time I'm not "allowed" to have caffeine, so I know I won't go down the diet soda path again. (Some good is coming out of that little heart issue.:thumbsup2) And we are really close to committing to the 1/2 marathon in October, so I know I need to keep exercising. I am way too cheap to forfeit that entry fee!:lmao:

Maria--post away. I feel like I've been the queen of tmi lately, so it will be nice to have some company.:goodvibes

jennz--good luck with your dd. It's hard to be a Mom sometimes.

Taryn and Pamela--good luck at the competitions and have a safe trip!

Kathy and Jude--thanks for the hugs! DS called to tell me he is feeling a little better, but still taking ibuprofen. Well, first he left a message telling us, gee we are hard to get a hold of, and what if it was an emergency. He's a little needy when he's sick.:lmao:

DH and I ran 4.8 today in a 54:27 time. We walked at the beginning and end for a total of 7.2 miles! I had a little heel soreness, but other than that felt great. That's the fastest I've run outside. We're opening our pool today, but I'm taking a little break from the sun.

One week from today, I will be sitting at WL, by the pool doing nothing!!! We're just taking a quick 5 day trip, but I am really looking forward to it!

Have a great day everyone!

I think this is the longest I have gone with out posting EVER!

All set for the birthday party. Actually got ready early and now just relaxing. I still need to make the fondue but that won't take long. Will be ordering pizza a little after 4.

Didn't get in extra workout last night or this morning though I was running around all morning and sweating cleaning up. DD1 scored a goal in her soccer team but they got creamed 8-2! DD2 played well and had a blast.

Been good so far today. About to have my second jug of water. I'm feeling starving but am trying to be good early today so I can eat pizza and chips and after the kids go home, have a drink!

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday. I don't know if I'll get back on today or not.

I'll do the QOTD later tonight if I get back on or tomorrow.

everyone sounds like they are doing awesome.....it takes such discipline. I am officially going to start on Monday. I did a 4 1/2km run yesterday, but today has been a wipeout, work, 5 teenage boys taking over my house and off to a Birthday party tonight!
I find everyone very inspiring and motivated. That's so great!:cool1:
I have 10 lbs to lose, and I think it's the hardest!!!! Anyone in the same boat????? I feel I almost have to become extremely rigid to lose it.

Ugh! Dh just left to go get a new pool pump. I'm not shocked, because this will be it's 5th summer, but was hoping for an easy pool opening. Something always goes wrong. I have my fingers crossed that our salt chlorinator is working, because that's a very expensive repair. DH said if we ever move it will be to a house that has pool in the neighborhood and not to a house with a pool.:thumbsup2 Oh, and it just started raining, so that will make things a little more interesting!

Welcome Pinkle.:goodvibes I still have about 16 lbs to goal, but I think there are other people on here who are in that 10 pound range. Have fun with those boys. That was our house last year. We always had a house full of kids.

Tracy--have a great birthday party!

Happy Sat. all.

Question for those of you who cook fresh veggies. We are trying to start this habit ourselves(me and DH) so we went out to a framers' market today and bought some fresh brocolli, green beans, and red potatoes. There is enough of everything to last us through at least 2 meals with each veggie. Possibly 3 with the green beans. For us this would mean about 2 weeks.

So how do you store them(potatoes are properly stored already) and is it possible to get to last 2 weeks without blanching/freezing? Which is what the community board is telling me. I don't have blanching baskets.

We bought the smallest quantities possible of each but unless we want whole dinner of JUST green beans we gotta store them somehow:rotfl:

Octoberbride_ you can just throw the beans in some simmeringg water for a couple minutes and drain them and their blanched. Then you can freeze them if you want. Try keeping whole non cooked beans wrapped in a paper towel in a baggie. Also I heard that those "green bags" work really well though I haven't tried them.

I am in the same boat with my girls needing to lose a little weight. I talked to their doc and he is pretty against low fat stuff. He said some low fat dairy and milk is good, but most other stuff that is low fat or no fat is very high in sugar and additives. Its kinda freaky when you read about it all. Thats why most trainers and nutritionists reccommend "whole" foods, which most of us don't get nearly enough of (I know I sure don't). Its a touchy subject though. I don't want my girls thinking they are fat or anything, but I want them to maintain a healthy weight for their bodies. Its a fine line thats for sure. When they want junk I try adn remind them they are helping me by eating good foods, and that they want to grow up healthy. Healthy is our new word in this house! :rotfl:

I have a cold and have felt soooo tired the whole day. My DD1 had double ear infections and had to go to the Little Clinic last night. DD3 is cutting teeth and I need a VACATION!!!

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Birthday party was a big success! Watched Night at the Museum and then had pizza and did the presents. Then we had cake and make your own sundaes and started Night at the Museum 2 and had fondue. Then the girls headed outside for hide and seek until the end of the party. The girls said it was the best party ever as it was very laid back. Their favorite part of the goodie bag was the book lights I got at the Dollar Store. They squealed with delight when they saw them and then traded colors with each other!

We are now totally exhausted! Going to fix DH and myself a drink shortly! We earned it! Cleanup was pretty easy. I did eat a big make your sundae and skipped the cake. I did have some Doritos and 4 slices of pizza!

We're watching Dr. Who before the girls go to bed. They love the new series from England!

DD1 and her friend loved Walk It Out! I can't wait to do it tomorrow! I can see how you could end up doing it for hours! The music was great. They were doing Rhythm Island. DD1 was dancing around like crazy! She was so excited! Can't wait for the rest of her presents tomorrow!

Time for that drink! Hope I'm not causing too much damage but oh well. I did it once getting down and I know I can do it again!

Good night all!

Greetings! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

QOTD - I'll have to say my problems come with leaving home--travel has killed me during this challenge--I know I should prepare - but I just don't (YET!!!). And all of the good habits I've been able to do while at home just seem to evaporate--I don't get enough water, I don't eat enough fruits/veggies and I don't exercise. I also don't have my computer on and with me to remind me to track everything in sparkpeople and to read the inspiration that I get here. And once I am not doing those things - it's just that much easier for me to just eat what the heck ever I want to... not a good thing - but it has been a definite pattern here.

What do I do to get back on? Well - I just do it... usually the day after I get home--though a couple of times I have waited til the magical Monday to start anew... but because of this challenge and the marvelous support here and from my sister (we email each other multi times each day to report on progress and non-successful times as well) this is the first time when I have been able to fall and get right back up. In spark yesterday I read a japanese proverb that fits well - "Fall down 7 times, Get up 8" What a great thought!

Well - in addition to the QOTD I wanted to report on my first day of 'half marathon prep'... I began the day with 3 miles WATP and then went to DH's school to help him with some computer stuff - and I timed myself on his indoor track (1/16 mile track). I walk slowly - so I just wanted to know where I am starting--since I know for Disney halfs I have to be close to 15 min/mile...
The bad news is currently I am at about 20 minutes per mile! :scared1:
The absolutely fabulously super news is - after I had walked 1/2 mile I decided to try to 'jog' (with as little stress to my knees and ankles as I could muster) for a bit and ended up 'jogging' for 2 laps or 1/8 mile!!! Don't know when the last time I did that was... I realize that this is incredibly small compared with all of you who are running tons and pulling down times of 9 min miles--but this was HUGE for me--so I wanted to share it here :)

Have a great evening and fabulously happy Sunday
:) Liz

Happysmyly -- I started out praying I would be able to not be swept at my first Disney Half. I trained for a year to be able to do a less than 16 min mile, so do not be discouraged at all. You will find as you start out you will be able to have quick spurts of improvement. Don't be discouraged when you don't get faster each week. You are adding conditioning and it will all add up in the end! With the last 10 lbs I lost, I've just started to be able to put on more speed. It can be slow, it can come in spurts, just keep moving forward and you will start to feel the joy of moving!

What are the warning signs for you that you are maybe starting to lose your way on this lifelong journey? Is is eating more? Not journaling your food? Skipping workouts? And the more important part of this.... HOW DO YOU GET BACK ON TRACK?

I've been on this journey since 2003. I am a daily weigher. I don't let my weigh creep up too much before I put on the breaks and cut back on what I'm eating or stop eating crap. I can do it, but I have to be diligent.

Liz--You can do it!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed your workout at the track!:goodvibes
Thank you!! At this point I'm just going to be as positive as I can--and focus on how far I've already come :) Thanks for the encouragement.

Maria - thanks! That's where I am - hoping that I don't get swept... but you know - if I do get swept the first time - there are always more times ahead. And I know that my weight loss will help increase speed and endurance. At 264--that's a lot of poundage to be dragging around a half marathon... I plan on being much lighter by January--but if I haven't lost enough by then to give me the speed I need - I'm still gonna do it and see how far I can get--cause as they say--Didn't finish greatly out trumps Never got started in the first place :)

Thanks again - to all of you for your encouragement! With your help and support - we can do anything we put our minds to :)

:) Liz

Okay, so I have been reading this thread, but not posting or doing weigh ins... I got off track awhile back but I am really back on now... Way on. I have been working out twice a day (20 min. in the morning and about an hour after work), 6 days a week, and watching what I eat. I eat about half of what I used to (so actually correct portions), and much healthier. I notice that I am stronger during workouts too. And yet... no change on the scale. Or at least, very, very little. Like, 1 lb in 2.5 weeks. I can tell that I am starting to get frustrated, like what is the point? I just wanted to vent, and I am hoping someone out there has some fabulous words of advice or something for me... Maybe an idea as to why this is happening or what else I can do? I am pretty close to eating even less, but I worry that it may be unhealthy... Any ideas?

Hope everybody is having a great weekend!

Thanks to last week's coach jennz!:thumbsup2
An early thanks to pjlla for coaching this week!:cool1:

I went MIA off the thread the last couple days as I was busy getting you 8yo DD ready to head off to the provincial celebration for 100 years of girl guides. I made her a camp blanket/poncho which will keep her cozy on the all night bus ride they did to get to the celebration and will also be a cozy pillow while she's there as they weren't allowed to take pillows. There's about 8000 participants attending the massive sleepover in a hockey arena. Hopefully it will be a great trip for her. Its definitely the furthest she's gone away without family (not the longest but the furthest). I was surprised that I had tears watching her climb on the bus on Friday night. Because we are so far from the event, they left Friday at 11:30pm, drove all night, spend Sat at the event and will be driving home on Sunday to arrive about 10pm. She will probably be a tired girl on Monday.

Anyhow, this week I ended up with a maintain, so now I have to stay focussed and lose a little this week to at least end up being a loser for BL9. I'm looking forward to a fresh start with the summer BL.

:goodvibes:cool1:THANKS to DONA for all the work she puts into the COW. Even when I forget to track it, I am thinking about it and I know it has helped me make some good choices.

Hope everybody is doing well. I have to go write an accounting test on Thursday as the next step towards getting a job I applied for, so tomorrow I'll be sitting on my butt doing the annual report for the volunteer organization I'm in, which is also a great accounting review to help me get ready for the test. I'm feeling very nervous, but all I can do it try my best and see what happens.

I'll hopefully get on tomorrow evening to post the reminder post.:goodvibes

you mentioned that you are watching what you eat, but are you actually counting calories or points? Maybe the balance between the food and exercise isn't enough food or maybe you are still eating more calories than you need?

And even if the scale isn't moving as much as you'd like, you are seeing positive changes in your workouts, which is another type of SUCCESS!:thumbsup2

First, :cool1: for making changes. Second, I think as girls (I'm making an assumption here) we really have to think about where we are in the month. Does that make sense? Trying not to be too graphic.:goodvibes And I agree with Shannon about really looking at what you are eating either by calories or points. Sometimes things start our slow and sometimes things get stuck for a while. Also, make sure you are drinking your water. I know lots of folks on here (me included) swear by it. If I'm not getting enough water, I'm not losing. Hang in there!

Good morning! The new pool pump is in, though a connector is still leaking, and the chlorinator is working. It's supposed to rain for most of the day, so hopefully DH will get the connector to stop leaking.

Today I'm going to see if I can get a couple more reservations for our trip next week. We have one at Narcoosee's on our anniversary. Normally I'm a compulsive planner, but had too many distractions the past couple of weeks and just couldn't make a decision on anything.

We also need to go to Whole Foods today. I am determined to make my goal this week. 1.6 lbs. by Friday.:goodvibes I know if I buckle down and work hard I can do it!

Have a great day!

QOTD...this is so timely! I have so many yellow warning flags up! Tired of eating healthy foods, no time to exercise...I'm trying to figure out how to get back on track. Last week was a bad one for me! Finally Friday we went to eat and I just ate what I wanted. Yesterday was badddd, all that sodium I swelled up like a balloon and my joints felt like they were going to break when I exercised! I guess that sodium sucked up all my water! Actually that was helpful for me, to look at my puffy face and feel the pain in my body.

To get back on track...back to basics!! It helps that I have energy again - helps in the kitchen!! Make more veggies with meals, cleaned some fruit yesterday. Get out and get moving every day! It will help me to help dd (my covert mission, don't want her to be on diet just to get healthier). :hippie:

I have a cold and have felt soooo tired the whole day. My DD1 had double ear infections and had to go to the Little Clinic last night. DD3 is cutting teeth and I need a VACATION!!
:hug::hug:Hope you're all feeling better soon.

Sounds like a wonderful party. Don't worry, you'll be walking away any damage in no time.

:cool1: Congratulations on your workout and on jogging!! 1/8th of a mile is awesome for the first time!! When started in feb I was doing about 20 min miles too, and now I'm down between 15 and 16 min miles. I weight 212 right now, and as my weight goes down through this year, I hope that will enable me to pick up a little more speed. Have you looked at the couch to 5k program? It starts you off with running for a minute and walking for 2 min, and it's a very slow way to introduce running into your walking, if you're interested. I found the first day, the full minute was hard, but gradually you add time, and build up your endurance. It's designed so that you don't overdo it and hurt yourself. I have a fear of being swept in disney too. I figure march is the princess, and if I'm spending all the money to go, I want to finish, but that is 10 months away, and if I keep training, and lose some weight, I should be able to do it. You're doing great, Liz.

I am a daily weigher. I don't let my weigh creep up too much before I put on the breaks and cut back on what I'm eating or stop eating crap. I can do it, but I have to be diligent.
This is what I need to do. The daily weighing does help to keep me on track too.

You are doing great, and I know it's frustrating, but don't give up. That's a lot of exercise, and I wonder if you're getting enough calories in to keep the metabolilsm up with all the exercise. Maybe if you figured out calories for a couple days, and I'm sure sparkpeople could tell you how many calories you should get to lose weight for your weight, you could get an idea if you're eating enough. Also, if the exercise is a new thing, and your muscles are achy, they are retaining some fluid, so that could be part of it too. Hang in there, and that scale should catch up with all your hard work.

I went MIA off the thread the last couple days as I was busy getting you 8yo DD ready to head off to the provincial celebration for 100 years of girl guides. What a fun experience for your dd. Good luck with the accounting test and the job.

What are the warning signs for you that you are maybe starting to lose your way on this lifelong journey? Is is eating more? Not journaling your food? Skipping workouts? And the more important part of this.... HOW DO YOU GET BACK ON TRACK?
I stop tracking, stop making healthy dinners, get take-out more, don't find the time to come and dis, and skip my exercise. Key for me is tracking. I'm in week two of tracking, and if I write it down, I eat less than if I don't. I also do so much better when i check in here, and know that I am not alone. It's so nice to post when I'm stressed or emotional, and get support, rather than getting some short lived comfort in the kitchen.

Another thing -- I notice I stop posting when I stop doing what I should! I'm going to be annoying this week as I keep track of every little thing and give you TMI -- fair warning! :rotfl2:
You'll never be annoying, only inspiring. We all can finish up this challenge strong.

Today I'm going to see if I can get a couple more reservations for our trip next week. We have one at Narcoosee's on our anniversary. Normally I'm a compulsive planner, but had too many distractions the past couple of weeks and just couldn't make a decision on anything.
I love the planning. I had our adrs for august before I booked, but I thought there was going to be a halloween party when we were there, but there isn't, so I'm thinking I might just switch it all up so I can do some more planning.:rotfl: Have fun making those reservations.

I'm on call today, so we hope to just have a relaxing day hanging out at home. The weekends have been busy lately, so it's nice to just chill and keep my fingers crossed the phone doesn't ring. Still tracking every bite, and so far this week, I'm staying within my points. I'll cook some steak, potatoes, and zuchini on the grill this afternoon, with leftovers for the next 2 days, and that helps so much to keep me on track.

Enjoy your sunday.:)

I have a tween!!!!!AHHHH!!!!!!

Gave her her gifts this morning! She got a Perfect Pet bulldog who she named Spike! No need to feed (except batteries when they die) and sleeps ALL THE TIME! Doing a Wizards of Waverly Place fashion notebook Color Explosion Kit. Also gave her another pookaloo, Minnie.

Woke up to the sweetest thing ever. DH and I thought the girls were in the living room watching tv. I got up and looked in DD1s room and they were lying in bed and DD1 was reading A Little Princess to DD2! It was sooooo sweet I wanted to cry! I got photos!

DD1 and I have to go out at 11 to get recital tickets and then go pick up our Chinese food. My Payless version of Shape-Ups are in at my local store so maybe I will go get them later today as week.

We're going to do Walk it Out later today and watch some movies and probably play games.

Have a great day!
