Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

I really wish I could fit Bicycling into my schedule more often. I ♥ it, but it is harder to do with small kids. We had a pull-behind bike trailer, but the dog ate it. I had a stationary bike, but that SO doesn't do it for me. I love being out in nature, feeling the wind, seeing birds and other animals and actually going some where. Maybe I'll go tune up that rusty-dusty bike today it start a new habit...

I would love to do more swimming, too. There is a very nice indoor recreational facility here. I keep saying I am going to go and check it out. Some day . . . . :rotfl: That would be good cross training for my C25K training and help my body rest. Thanks for putting the idea in my head!

Hope that you are feeling better soon, CC! :flower3:

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

I wish there was a place here to train to scuba dive. We did it on our last vacation to Cancun and it was da bomb. We would love to get certified and spending time in the water with all the equipment and using the fins would be great exercise :goodvibes

That sounds exciting! :cool2:

donac, pixiedust: to your DS for his race today -- maybe he will inspire his Mom to do the Princess some day? ;)

Yes, I am a geek and have the Orlando weather on my itouch!

::yes:: Yep, I can totally relate! I also have Anaheim and Paris in my list of weather cities!

jennz,, hang in there!

That was a great idea on the pics. Isn't it amazing to see the difference? I've been having those moments seeing myself in window reflections -- I have a picture in my brain of how I used to look and I am always surprised when I see how different it is now. I think we all need to try to think of our healthier, improved selves but it so hard to get out of that mindset.

Did you get your test results back yet? I'm sure you did great!

Have a great day all!

Good luck to corinnak, princessbride6205 and jenanderson in their race today. :thumbsup2 Hope that you will come back and share some pics and tell us all about it!

Saturdays are my day to sleep in. I'm fighting a cough/cold so I have a feeling that I'll be getting a lot of sleep tonight. I'm going to go ahead and post tomorrow's QOTD now.

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

First of all... feel better! Spring colds are icky.

QOTD: Well... I have been thinking about this lately. I am getting bored with my exercise routine and was thinking that if I got involved in a sport that I might have more fun. I was thinking about tennis. I haven't ever "really" played, but I took lessons as a kid. It just seems like fun exercise. But it is very pricey at our Y. DS took a few sessions of lessons this past fall/winter and I might look into renting court time over the summer while DD is swimming and DS and I could play together. Plus there is a free outdoor court here in our town that DS and I could try once in a while.

Please send PD to ds1 tomorrow. He is running in his first half marathon. I will not go see him but his gf will be there. I never thought he would even be running. Ds2 was the runner in family and is built more like a runner than ds1. But he has trained and we know even if he can't run it all he can walk parts of it. A few weeks ago he went out for a long run and planned to do 12 miles. He got to mile 6 and fell and then had to walk back so we know he can do 12 miles.

Best of luck to DS! You must be so proud. I hope he has recovered from his fall. I'll look forward to hearing how he does.

pjilla - SNOW? FREEZING RAIN? YUK! It has been really warm here lately.
Hang in there. Those 7 pounds have been with you for a long time, they like it there. Maybe you need to punish them so they don't want to be around. Maybe they'll come off while you are in Disney, not worrying about them? I am getting excited for your trip for you. BTW, I can't imagine ever being in the 130s, so that is just flat awesome to me!

Anyone ever heard of Isagenix? I think it's like a meal replacement/cleansing thing. There is a fast growing group of people here taking it, losing something like 20+ pounds a month. The idea is appealing to me, but I want to lose weight in a manner I can sustain. I don't really want to be chained to buying a product for the rest of my life. It does make me a little jealous to be working so hard, happy to lose half that in a month, and it seems rather effortless for them.

Yup.... I won't give those 7 pounds (actually, as of today it is only 4 pounds) a peek at the map while we are at AK and maybe they will get lost... I know I always do!! :rotfl: Thanks for saying that the 130's is awesome... that made me smile and feel more encouraged.

About the Isagenix. I am NOT familiar with it, but keep in mind, these folks are NOT learning healthy eating habits... they are using a crutch. It might be good for a jump start, especially for someone significantly overweight, but it is not teaching them healthy eating that can be maintained for a lifetime. You are FAR better off doing what you are doing. Sure, it is frustrating to be slowly losing the weight.... we all want it to come off fast, but EVERY DAY that you are eating OP and keeping up your exercise, you are building HEALTHY HABITS that will last for a LIFETIME! :)

I am so impressed and inspired! Because of this I am going to go through my freezer and pantry and do the same!

Well I've been junk-fooding it this past week but I think I have a better grip on my issues - emotional of course, how shocking! :rotfl2: What has helped me get a grip on my eating, you might ask? Well I decided to do some "before" pictures :scared1: I saw my rear!!! And actually saw 15 pounds less of it. I think I'm going zoom in on that thing and blow it up (not that it needs it lol) and when I reach for something more than I need look at it...either that or use it as a dart board.:rotfl:

Glad I could inspire you! I go through spurts where I am SO good about planning meals and then I fall away from the habit for a while. But it makes life SO MUCH EASIER when I keep up the schedule. In addition to just writing down the meals, I make notes on each day about what to take out to defrost for another day, about prepping extra veggies for an upcoming meal, and stuff like that. For example, while waiting for dinner to cook last night, DD and I peeled and chopped a few pounds of apples for homemade applesauce that is planned for two meals in the next few weeks. I put the apples in the crockpot and cooked them overnight. This morning they were about ready to go. I divided them into containers (one for the fridge, one for the freezer) and they are ready for the planned night!

Since I have extra time today (rare for me), I am cooking and prepping the hamburger for 4 upcoming meals (we eat a lot of hamburg as DS is allergic to chicken and DD won't eat fish). I will cook it and prepare it for the various meals (hamburg soup, sloppy joes, tacos, and meatballs). Then it will be frozen and ready to grab when needed.

Tomorrow night while prepping the vegetables and fruit for my curried chicken, I will also prep the veggies for Monday night's pasta salad.

I'm not always this organized, but I am so much happier with myself when I am!

DD and I got a chuckle from the mental image of your dog eating a trailer! :rotfl: How did he do this??

Happy cold rainy Saturday everyone! I hope everyone else is having better weather. It is cold and raw and miserable outside, but I did a full hour walk with ankle weights, weight belt, and wrist weights this morning. I am enjoying an audiobook, so that is helpful with the boredom. My walking friend apparently has a foot injury and won't be able to do a lot of walking anytime soon. We don't walk together often, but I will miss her.

I had a "do-over" on the scale this morning and the number was SIGNIFICANTLY better. WOOHOO! I KNEW yesterday was from bloating. I pushed my fluids, watched my sodium, and had a few visits from the potty fairy yesterday (:scared1: probably TMI... sorry!) and actually registered a loss on the scale this morning. I wish I wouldn't let the number on the scale dictate my mood/mental state so much. Not sure what to do about it.

I made a treat for breakfast for the family, but I stuck with my scrambled egg whites with sauteed pepper and tomato. But I treated myself to two slices of light raisin toast with 1 tsp. of p. butter on top of one slice... so yummy!

I gave my family a piece of my mind last night because I am getting tired of playing the martyr with the healthy eating. They wanted to make cookies last night. Cookie dough is DEFINITELY a trigger food of mine.... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Can't resist it. And I didn't want the temptation before I was able to do another weigh-in this morning. They were arguing with me (mostly DH and DD) about how come they couldn't just make it and I don't eat any.... HUH!!?? A big sarcastic THANKS for making this even harder than it already is!!! :sad2: I was good and truly pissed off. And I let them know this. I told them it was bad enough that they expect me to scoop their ice cream on treat nights, and fill the Easter baskets, and prepare all of the meals, etc and still stick to my healthy eating plan.... but this was adding insult to injury. The cookies didn't get made last night, but I probably won't be able to stop them today. And that is okay..... it is a new week and I have a new batch of Flex points to use. But last night it was just the last straw.... and I told them so as I served them their Fenway Fudge ice cream that I didn't have ANY of!! :headache:

Phew.... got that off my shoulders! Thanks.

I need just two or three items from the grocery store today. Not sure if I will head all the way into town and do a few errands, or just head to the local store (20 minutes each way) and get the few things I need. DD has homework, but I know she will want to come along with me if I go out.

I need a few things for my upcoming trip and could stand to make a quick stop at the Goodwill for a drop-off and shop. DS needs a few pairs of shorts for the trip... he is growing like a weed! I also need to find shelf stable white milk boxes so he can have cereal in the hotel room during our trip. I already have the little Cheerios cups and plastic spoons. I will be having my morning hot beverage and instant oatmeal and/or Fiberone bars for breakfast. Not the best choice, but quick, easy, and cheap breakfast in the hotel room is good enough. I'll probably also bring along some applesauce cups for DS and canned peaches/pears for me. I would attempt fresh fruit, but I don't think it would handle the travel very well and we won't have a fridge. It will only be breakfast in the room for 3 days that I really have to think about, so I'm not that concerned.

I have 4 loads of laundry to fold and put away and some vacumming and then I will call the housework done for the day. Sure, it could use more, but I'm not going to worry about it too much. The kids were told that they MUST spend some time cleaning their rooms today. Not sure how much will actually get done.

Any free time today will be spent at the scrapping table. I've got about two weeks left before my scrapping convention comes to town and I need to have plenty of projects ready to work on! I'm getting excited!

To those of you walking/running in the Challenge Obesity 5K today... WOOHOO! Go get 'em! I hope your weather is better than mine! I thought of you all as I did my walk outside today. TTYL........P

How did you know that your battery died? I have bought so many over the years. I never considered that it was the battery that was creating the problem. I just figured I dropped it too many times. LOL.

My pedometer has a little battery icon that flashes when the battery is low. I'm waiting to see how long the icon lasts before I replace the battery. If the battery is low, why does the icon still flash? LOL

Not a great day for me on the scale yesterday. I was up .7 for the week. I'm clearly not eating enough. The other day I burned 950 calories at the gym but I only ate about 830 calories for the day (not on purpose... I was busy all day and didn't even think about eating until dinner). I need to try to fit another protein shake into my day.

Jenn ~ you will be in my thoughts this week!

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

Boxing... in a boxing ring. We don't have a ring in my area but I would love to box.

Just was catching up and got a brilliant idea. I'm going to check the distance from the hotel to the gate and then start walking that at least with him a few times a week. He's taking his first college class so he's been doing a lot more walking so that's great but he needs as much as he can get lol. the subject of the pedometer brought that up-- we both have one.;)

Good luck to corinnak, princessbride6205 and jenanderson in their race today. :thumbsup2 Hope that you will come back and share some pics and tell us all about it!

Thanks everyone! It was a really great run today and we all finished. I will share that it was a PR for DH and I. We finished in just over 31 minutes (official results will be posted later). We did take photos but I have to figure out how to get them off my phone.

Saturday QOTD: I would love to try the Pilates reformer! After doing the LS Slim and Sleek Pilates workout I am curious about it! I'll have to check around here.

DD1 had her soccer game this morning! It was 40 degrees and raining! We were all frozen! They won 5-1 and are 2-0 for the season so far. DD1 had an assist! DD2s game was fortunately canceled! We all came home and took warm baths and showers!!!!

Getting cleaned up for our company this afternoon. DD1 and I will be picking up pizza at 4 and we'll be drinking margaritas while watching Dr. Who later!

Had hot dogs for lunch and a Fiber Plus bar for breakfast and 2 cups of hot chocolate. No exercise today. Will try and do the Wii tomorrow. Meeting some Dis folks at a Give a Day meet tomorrow and having lunch with them afterwards. Our scheduled time to volunteer is next week but we are going to do it tomorrow as well. It's for a good cause! We'll be stuffing teddy bears and donating them to hospitals.

I'll get back to my routine next week at some point even though the kids will be off all week. Movies on Monday, gotta work on Tuesday and then go to the cemetery to visit DH's parents grave. Their anniversary was last week and we try to go every year around this time. We'll be eating out that day too! Not much cooking for me this week except for breakfast!

Well, back to work cleaning!

Enjoy the weekend!

Friday QOTD: I wore it one day on a trip and logged 9 miles that day at Disney. I just found the pedometer while cleaning so I will try and recalibrate next week.

It's so amazing how many miles you can log at a Disney park!

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

Scuba diving sounds like so much fun. I hope that you get to try it again soon. I would imagine it's great exercise.

Sat. 4/17 QOTD: What is one exercise/sport, etc. you have always wanted to try and/or wish you fit more into your schedule?

I always wanted to try a full yoga class and I finally did it last Nov and I love it.

I have to look at the college in town to see if I can get a pass to their pool. We had a pool but the liner ripped last season and dh doesnt think we got enough use out of it. Even though a few years ago I used it almost every morning to do lap no one else used it so I think it going to go. It would be cheaper to get the pass to the college than to pay for a new liner.

We needed a new liner a few years ago. It ended up being more practical to buy a whole new pool as the metal was rusting. The college I went to has an alumni rate and it is nearby. Hmm...you have me thinking.

Anyone ever heard of Isagenix? I think it's like a meal replacement/cleansing thing. There is a fast growing group of people here taking it, losing something like 20+ pounds a month. It does make me a little jealous to be working so hard, happy to lose half that in a month, and it seems rather effortless for them.

I've never heard of Isagenix. I agree with you. It's important to lose weight and be able to keep it off.

A sport near me - right now Zumba is a big craze, but I just can't fit it in my schedule. I hope this summer I can be with my girlfriends for a class or two, I've done some on you tube and they look like a blast. I would love a pool nearby, and a running trail, not just the track at the park. It's pretty, don't get me wrong, but I'd love to try to run through the woods.

Zumba has become very popular around here too. Some of my friends are really into it. I would go with them, but same here, it doesn't fit into my schedule.

Sorry I've been MIA, rough week and next week will likely be the same. I'm going back to read through posts.

Hope you week is the best it can possibly be!

So glad you all had a great run, and that is an awesome time for you!!

I am currently 0.2 higher than when this challenge started, but I stayed on plan last week and will continue to move forward.
I think maintaining is way underrated, and I'm too am pretty much maintaining thru this challenge, but I like to think about where I would be if I wasn't a part of this challenge, and had totally given up, I know I would be up 10,20, ro 30 pounds. We gotta keep on trucking and we'll get there.

Please send PD to ds1 tomorrow. He is running in his first half marathon. I will not go see him but his gf will be there. I never thought he would even be running.:hug::hug::hug::hug: Thinking of you this week.

Kathy how was the talent show? How are you feeling?
Feeling much better, thanks. The talent show was great. The boys did great, sang their little hearts out. It was fun.

:rotfl::rotfl: 15 pounds makes a big difference.

Today was interesting - in a good way. I got to spend more time with DD than a usual workday and got in a lot of exercise. Yesterday I was upset and feeling like a bad parent for throwing DD into a new full time daycare. She is slow-to-warm-up anyway and the change made her freak out. It wasn't just crying when I dropped her off, it was a number of times throughout the day. Things are really busy with my work, DH is out of town on business, so the child psychologist recommended "only leave your child for 30 minutes the first day and then half day the next few days" was not feasible. Of course this brought back up my feelings that I don't want to be working full time, but my job won't allow part time, flex time, work from home, anything. *sigh*
So this morning I wake up to a phone message that our daycare is closed (provider's step-daughter taken to hospital). I was supposed to be driving around a new employee to various appointments around town and then the airport to fly out to the city she'll be working in. It was too late to get in touch with someone else to drive her to the first appt, so DD came with me. That was a visit to our costume shop, which DD LOVED (most people know us there). I called work to get someone to cover, but didn't hear back for nearly 2 hours that someone was avail. So on to the 2nd appointment. This one was to be 2 hours long, so DD and I went to a little cafe for a snack and got out her coloring books. The weather had improved, so we went for a 30 minute walk thru a nice residential neighborhood. Took the employee to her 3rd appointment with my coworker arriving to finish the chauffeuring. It was now 12:45 and the sun was shining.
For her good behavior, Addie and I walked to a nearby playground. Back to our house for small lunch and her nap. Then the 10 minute walk each way to our neighborhood playground. I love having an active day where it barely feels like I exercised. I didn't have to carve out a time or go to a gym - it was just built into my day, and with DD to boot.
So that whole long story short, it was nice to be forced into taking most of the day off work.
Sounds like everything worked out well for you and you enjoyed some extra time with dd. It's hard to juggle school and work and daycare, and you just do the best you can, and that's all you can do.

It's not a very Biggest Loser-like thing to do, but my kids have been talking about an end-of year-all-school ice cream party for months now that was mentioned at the end of the Pennies for Patients service project. So help me, I stepped right up this afternoon and volunteered to throw a giant all-school ice cream party tomorrow afternoon. I don't want the last thing the kids remember from this fantastic little school to be sadness and gloom. I will not go crazy, I assure you.
Hope the last day went smoothly and everyone had a fun ice cream party. It sounded like the perfect way to end things.

Ok, enough about me. Here is today's QOTD: Do you wear/use a pedometer? If so, do you think it helps you on your weight loss journey? If not, is there a reason why you don't? Do you think that it could help you on your journey?
Hi cc and thanks for coaching this week.
I have a pedometer, but haven't been wearing it much. I should pull it out again.

It was a good weigh in today. Down 2 lbs and got my 30 pound clippie! It's been a long time coming.
Whoo hoo!!! Nice job Lisa, and that clippie looks fabulous on you!!

It's been a busy couple days and I've been trying not to spend too much time on the computer. It is nice to catch up on the thread. I'm trying to do some spring cleaning, and get the house in order for first communion in 2 weeks. I don't want to be stressing that morning. Today we went to the bakery to order a cake, and I offered Michael to buy him a cupcake and he didn't want one, and I so wanted one, but I didn't buy one just for me. He of course would have been my excuse to get one too. :rotfl:

Because I was sick mid week, I missed my c25k on thurs, and this morning it was rainy and cold, and I almost skipped it again, but I thought that this would be the beginning of the end, miss one day, then two, and then slowly give it up all together, so I got dressed and went out and did it in the cold and rain, and it felt so great after to be done. I know from past experience, it doesn't take long to get out of the habit of exercising, and I am determined not to do that.

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Thanks.

I had a breakdown like this a couple of weeks ago. I told dh I would prefer him not to bring half gallons of ice cream into the house. He joked that the police would find it funny to see him in front of the house eating ice cream but the next morning he got rid of all the chocolate sauce (he buys a new bottle every time he gets ice cream and then doesn't check to see if there is any left so I think at the time we had 3 bottles in the frig and I wasn't eating chocolate at all) He hasn't brought any ice cream home since. I do try to keep him supplied with strawberry bars. I used to get him pineapple bars but my supermarket do not carry them any more. Either the pineapple or strawberry bars are pure fruit and fruit puree. The each had about 70 calories each. we tried them the first time last Aug in DHS. He got one flavor and I got the other and halfway through we switched.

Had to work an extra hour at the Boy Scout event because they didn't have any one relieve me. Luckily dh came and helped me for that hour. I haven't done much this afternoon. I have a lot that I could be doing but I got nothing done. I think I will get a bubble bath and then read for a while. I may watch a movie on tv and then head to bed.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Hey Everyone! Thought I would post this picture of corinnak, princessbride6205 and me at the race today. It was really fun to put a face with a name and meet some of my WISH friends!

Way to go on not giving in and having that cupcake! And way to go getting in your C25K!

I always find that my weight-loss goes better when I have extra support. Way to go!

Hope everyone had a great day!

I tend to sleep in on Sunday mornings or go to church, so here is tomorrow's QOTD. I'll go with a fun one.

QOTD for Sun. 4/18: If you had 2 hours all to yourself, what would you do?

I've always wanted to get a massage. I could also go for a pedicure.

I'd like 2 hours to lay out in the sun reading Kingdom Keepers 3. I'm craving sunlight and want to work on my tan. Unfortunately it has been raining and spitting snow here for the last 2 days and the forecast isn't great for next week. Oh well, the kids are on vacation this week so it's not like I'll have 2 hours to myself anyway.
