I have been obsessed with this show on bbc america called "You Are What You Eat". The Dr.'s name is Gillian McKeith and she kicks peoples bums! She is into fresh foods and mostly fruits and veggies, though some non red meat and fish. She also believes in a lot of raw veggies and fruits. I went and got 2 of her books. They are really interesting and once you start reading about food, its really amazing. Its really crazy what the government allows into our foods. Other countries ban things because they are dangerous, but the US still allows it. Gillian McKeith doesnt say too much about what you shouldn't eat, but pushes you to try new foods and eat less processed foods. For the next 3 days I am going to try to follow a vegan diet with little or no processed foods. I have a terrible problem with energy and many things I am reading are saying its the processed foods that could be making me feel that way. I am going to try and take it 3 days at a time and see how it goes. Anyone can do something for 3 days right?????
I hope you are all doing well. Keep strong. We can do this!!!
I watch that show sometimes (but lately it has been just repeats). I like the way that she shows people what they are eating now (and it always horrifies them... like "really?? you didn't KNOW you were eating/drinking all that CRAP??). But she is waaaay over the top for most people and I don't think that she is teaching them how to lose weight and maintain it for a LIFETIME. How many people do you know that are eating fastfood, pizza, etc now and are going to totally give it ALL up, immediately, cold turkey? Her diet is a bit extreme, but it does look super healthy!
And I am always SHOCKED at how poorly most of these people eat (and how they feed their kids

). No WONDER they are overweight and suffering from health issues... just shocking in some cases! Anyhow.... I believe some people raised some issues with her show because I don't think that there is any evidence to back up her claimed title of "doctor". Not sure what she even claims to be a doctor of (MD, PhD??). That said, she does have some excellent healthy ideas and recipes.
Sorry so late but here's your QOTD Monday:
What can you do to stay positive when you have a setback with your weight loss journey?
Well... as you all know, I have been faced with ongoing setbacks/plateaus lately. But I try to keep reminding myself that I am FAR better off at my current weight than I was at 219 pounds (where I was a few years ago). Even if I NEVER LOSE another pound and NEVER hit my goal of 130, I am fit and healthy RIGHT NOW.
Good morning!
If you look up the word "crabby" in the dictionary today, you will see my face. I am beyond crabby. Ugh... teenage girls.
What can you do to stay positive when you have a setback with your weight loss journey?
When I first started on my journey, I was letting the scale dictate my moods. If the scale went up a little, I would be incredibly upset and moody. After a few weeks, I decided that I was not going to let the scale tell me how I was feeling. When I go up a little, I tell the scale to bite me! I've lost 35+ pounds! Take that!
I don't have many setbacks anymore.
I LOVE the idea of talking to my scale that way! I have been so frustrated by the number on my scale lately... I need to give it a little fresh talk! You're right... I've lost 82 pounds and my stupid scale can just kiss my grits!!
Tuesday QOTD: I know in the past few weeks we've talked about finding time to exercise and balancing everything we have going on. I saw a fun question in the last issue of Real Simple: What's the funniest, craziest or most embarrassing thing you've done to save time? And my own follow up, do you have any time-saving tips for the rest of us? How do you fit in preparing healthy meals, exercise, and "me" time?
To save time..... well, in the past I have carried loads of clean laundry down to the pool deck to fold laundry while the kids were swimming (here at home, not at the Y

) I've done kickbacks and high knee lifts while on recess duty at school to get in some exercise time.
I must admit.... I have really been letting the housework go to get in the exercise time and the "me" time (scrapbooking). I live with three slobs, so it is tough. But I am keeping up with the "cumulative" things like laundry and dishes, but relaxing on things like dusting, vacumming and such. And I haven't cleaned either of the kids rooms in ages.... and it shows!! I will fit in 5 minutes here and there as needed. I keep reminding myself that I don't need 2 hour time slots to get things done....I can unload the dishwasher in 5 minutes, I can start a load of laundry in 5 minutes, I can wipe the bathroom counter in 2 minutes.
Healthy meal time prep is tough. Lots of veggies means lots of time peeling and chopping. But I have broken down and started buying the prechopped salad greens. I didn't for a long time because it is more expensive, but my TIME is worth it and it gets eaten faster if it is already prepped.
I've found a few pretty basic healthy meals that I can have ready in under 20 minutes and those are kind of my "go to" meals when things get crazy and time is short. And the crockpot can be your friend, even when eating healthy. Not every crockpot meal is covered in cream of something soup and sour cream and cheese!
I got my Easter shopping done this morning, plus I ran a few other errands and picked up some sale items at the grocery store today.
I am so excited.... I got our Park Hoppers in the mail yesterday! DS is getting excited too! He is going to camp with school next week for three days... once that has passed the Disney trip will be nearly here (or so it will seem).
I've gotta run and pick up the kids for dentist appointments... then straight to the Y for DD's swim and my circuit class. BBL...........P
