Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I was just remember what it was like to be at my goal weight. It happened when I was living in California and I can remember walking in my neighborhood with the sun beating down on me and how GOOD I felt. I know this summer I will feel so much better than I did this past summer.

Later,
Sarah

Count me in as one of those folks who barely remembers what it feels like to be at goal weight! I think it was when I was in law school -- almost 20 years ago! :scared1:

But truly, I feel 100% better than I did a year ago because I truly believe that I will see my goal weight again in 2010. :thumbsup2 And you can bet that when I see it again, after all this hard work, I am never going to see these numbers again! :cool1:

I have a few minutes at work to sneak on here, all the patients are gone home!!
For dessert, if I really want to be good, I will make a pineapple angel food cake with a FF Cool Whip on the side. It is a nice treat. I didn't make it for T.giving this year because last year I was the only one who at it and it really was wasted, so I skipped it this year. I suppose I should consider that I am worth making it for, even if no one else wants it!! I also enjoy a trifle, as was previously mentioned.
Is that the one you make with a box of cake mix and a can of crushed pineapple instead of eggs and oil? It sounds good, and you are right that you deserve it, even if noone else wants it.

QOTD - I second the cantelope! I love fresh fruit platters too.
I also like smoked fish esp. salmon, high in fat but the good heart-healthy kind. A nice smoked fish pate and lower calorie crackers would be my next favorite.
Anything in those little puffs, profiteroles? My mom used to fill them with condensed mushroom soup! Sounds funny but tastes great.
Smoked fish is a good idea, and low cal.

hello everyone...I've been hiding out from life again but not as bad as before...the holidays have brought back a lot of memories of my mom and it's been hard for me to deal with, and I've found myself withdrawing again...my goal is NOT to do that and stay in touch with friends (includes my BL board friends :grouphug:) and my life.

So although I haven't been on the boards you all have been on my mind and after a good week (which I thought was bad but Luvbaloo was there to straighten me out on that) I am up over a pound, but that's OKAY...back at it today! And although all of my choices weren't the best I still exercised and it would have been a lot worse 3 months ago! lol
:grouphug:Glad to see you back. It is such a difficult time of year. Our families are different now, and we need to treasure all those holiday memories we've made with our moms, and we will make some more memories this year, and we will get through it. Hang in there, Jenn. Oh, and love the change in attitude on the small gain. Shannon is the best weightkeeper.

How exciting that we have two folks who are at goal! :cheer2::cool1: I think that we have the beginnings of our maintainer team next time around! :thumbsup2
Whoo hoo!! And may we all join them next time around!!

QOTD: Favorite party recipe:

Have I posted this before? It is a spinach artichoke dip that you can feel good about eating. It's really delicious served with pita chips but even better with celery sticks!

Spinach Artichoke Dip

From Vegetarian Times Fast and Easy

12 oz light silken tofu
2 tablespoons reduced-fat mayonnaise
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, minced (2 teaspoons)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
One 15.5 oz can artichoke quarters in water, drained, rinsed and chopped
1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Ground Paprika for dusting

1. Preheat oven to 400º F. Purée tofu, mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, garlic and onion powder in blender or food processor until smooth. Transfer to medium-sized bowl.

2. Stir artichokes, spinach and cheese into tofu mixture. Spoon into 8-inch glass pie or casserole dish. Bake 20 minutes. Dust with paprika. Serve hot.

Makes about 2 1/2 cups

Per Tablespoon: 16 cal; 1 g protein; 1 g. total fat (.5 g sat. fat); 1 g carb; 56 mg sod; <1g fiber; <1g sugars
This looks great. My sister makes a high fat dip like this, so maybe I'll try this on her, and see what she thinks.

Hi to all! I'm back from 6 days at my folks' house in NJ. I didn't spend much time online. I got up early and did my 5k on Turkey Day (treadmill), then didn't exercise the rest of the trip. :lmao: Oh well. I think I did well on food, I watched portions and didn't stand around the snacks chatting. I ate a few more cookies than I should have, but other than that, I think I did well. :thumbsup2

Congrats on your loss and your Turkey Trot! As far as when weight loss is "enough"...? That's a question I'm facing as well. I'm also at what I thought was my goal when I started this journey last May. My appearance is still lumpier than I'd like, but I don't know how many pounds that will translate into losing. I don't feel like I'm at my ideal weight, but I'm also wondering how far can I go and still maintain that loss? :confused3 I think a few more pounds off and my running/toning workouts and I will find my own "ideal." I've found that ideal weight formulas and calculators and even BMI may not be good benchmarks for certain individuals.
Congrats on reaching your goal!!!:cool1: I would think like you say, to try it out for a while, and see how you're feeling at that weight.

Jennz said:
corrina and princess...congrats on being at your goal weight! :woohoo: I do agree that it's individual, based on how you feel...a few (okay 15!) years ago after I lost 40 pounds and was at 140 I was tired a sick a LOT, and my goal was supposed to be 135. (I'm 5' 7") I went up to 145 and felt much much better. (Feels funny typing that, right now I'd be thrilled to be down to my starting weight back then!) So for what it's worth I agree and say go with how you feel, it's not about the number on the scale it's about your healthy body and energized life!

Lisa  thanks. It is very hard, and I think I should be "better" and "normal" but I have GOT to take those labels off of my feelings - I know in my head however I am feeling is "normal" for me at the moment. Thanks.
I feel the exact same way as far as being "better" and "normal", and am trying to remember that there is no time line or normal for you after a loss. The holidays are such an emotional time anyway. We should get together for a virtual drink.:rotfl:

Love this. It is such a great feeling.

:cool1:You will see that goal next year!!!

It's been many years since I've been at a goal weight, but when I was down 40, in the 180s, I felt pretty good. I remember being 135 right out of high school, and I have pictures that are amazing, but at the time, I joined gloria stevens salon, to try and lose weight. I never really felt thin. Never satisfied. My first big goal is to get to 181, which was my original ww joining weight 20 years ago. This time I joined, I was 45 pounds heavier than my joining weight.

It's been at least 10 years since I was at my goal weight. It was before I got pregnant with DD1.

Had a good day! Did 72 minutes on the Wii Fit today including the Island Lap long run! Drinking my water. Had a yogurt for dessert! Hoping to reach 20 pounds for the challenge by Friday and 40 since last Christmas! Also did the 2 and 3 mile workout. Knee felt better this afternoon. Going to take a few days off from the elliptical to give it a break. Sprinting around the mall with Redwalker in the morning so that will start my day off right! I do plan on getting up and doing the 2 mile WATP. I'll also do another workout tomorrow night after getting home from pageant practice and pizza. I will be good all day and I have ordered 2 pieces of pizza for myself. I will also drink my water tomorrow!

Tracey you are motivational! When I have a 1/2 hour or so I think about you pulling out that wii fit and it gets me moving...you have changed my mindset.:woohoo:

Kathy I am ready for a virtual drink! :rotfl2: Fun times, calorie free, no designated driver, and no feeling bad the next day!:drinking1

I am off to walk my dog before work and the rain...

Thanks, Jennz! I hadn't been on the Wii Fit in 11 days and it "yelled" at me! But I was doing other stuff!

I added the Biggest Loser Last Chance workout DVD to my Amazon wishlist! It's only $9.99!

I'm 1.1 lbs from 20 pounds for the challenge! Down 3.6 for the week so that's what I'm really excited about! I'll have to be good when I start baking today or tomorrow!

Heading out shortly to meet Redwalker at the mall for our sprint! as soon as I drop DD2 off at preschool! Just ate a Chocolate Peppermint Stick Luna bar for breakfast-180 calories and YUMMY!. Time to fill the water bottle too!

Hope everyone has a great day and don't forget to go to NBC.com and vote for who you want to be the 3rd person in the finals of BL next week! I placed my vote last night! You can vote 10 times!:yay:

I haven't done the running lately on wii fit. That island lap is a workout. I think I need to get my son interested in the 2 person run again to get me moving in the afternoons.

I'm heading to the liquor store right now and breaking out the blender. :cool1: Next wednesday michael's after school has parents night out and the kids come in their pajamas and watch a movie, and santa visits. It's 2 1/2 hours I have free and I'm hoping to meet some friends for a real drink and dinner.

Wow Tracey, that's awesome!! Wonder if you'll be the biggest loser!!!

Morning friends! Not a lot of time to chat here, but I wanted to at least drop by and say hi!

The kids have an early release day today, so we have an early robotics meeting... and our last meeting before the big State tournament this coming weekend. Plus DD missed the bus this morning so I had to drive her the 11 miles to school (and come home again, of course), so my morning is going to be much shorter than usual! I am skipping my AM workout and will hit the fitness room at the Y tonight while DD has swim practice. Breakfast was a quick half a fat free yogurt and a corn Vitamuffin top that I have been hoarding in the fridge, just waiting for that craving! Not sure about lunch, as the fridge is pretty bare. For dinner I am throwing some chicken breast and salsa in the crockpot in a few minutes. I will defrost some whole grain wraps and it will be chicken wrap to-go night. I will make a Boca burger for DS (who is allergic to chicken).

I am finally feeling like all of the overindulgence food from the weekend has worked its way out of my system and I feel NORMAL again! It took this long last year too (although I felt WORSE last year). But I feel light and not bloated finally. What an icky feel that has been over the past 4-5 days. So not worth it. And I really don't feel like I went crazy AT ALL this year. My main overindulgence was a piece (and a half) of peanut butter pie, a piece of lemon meringue pie, a large serving of onion casserole, and some pumpkin ravioli... and all of that was over the course of 3 days. Other than that I ate fairly normally. But I'm glad I am feeling better.

I'll come back later to check on the QOTD...............P

Glad you're feeling better. You are right, your over indulgence was really not all that crazy. I ate way more than that, but even that was so much better than i have done in the past when I wasn't even thinking about being healthy. You really have made a positive change in your lifestyle, one that will stay around. You are an inspiration to me. I know I will get there one day too.

I'm having a hard morning today. We are going to a tree lighting tonight for the Hospice that took care of my mom and us. We made a donation and dedicate a light to a loved one, so we did that for my mom. I'm hoping that will help get me into the holiday spirit. I've been going a little crazy on amazon.com, and the fedex guy just came, so that will help too.

Wed qotd is not really a question, but thought we might share a funny holiday story or memory, or if you want to share a funny disney memory that would be great too.

One thanksgiving dinner, my nephew was about 4, and we always would say "good dinner mom" who always did the cooking, and he was so excited about the canned cranberry jelly- and said "Grammy, this is the best part of thanksgiving." It was so funny, all the hard work that goes into a thanksgiving dinner, and can of cranberry jelly was the best.

Have a great day everyone.

Yeah did a lot of my black friday shopping online- I've got a table piled with packages too lol. I'm getting a wee bit out of control on the shopping, went to get my check yesterday and came out fo the lobby with 2 discounted books, a Disney fairie book for niece and a book by Jerry Seinfelds wife about making your kids food healthier, 'cept I bought it for me lol. She has some great ideas.
It is really stinkin' cold here right now- 26 degrees. Brought one of my girls in from the garage. They have an electric blanket out there but I think it's too cold even with that. She'll stay in my room until spring. I've got 2 more that stay mostly out there, one will come in the house if it's too cold, the other absolutely not, but she's just too nervy to have shut in my room, plus she's mean to Dorothy. She'll be allright though with the blanket all to herself. She also goes outside during the day if she wants so at least she's not so bored. Dot we don't let outside- she's our "special kitty" lol.

Fav funny Holiday moment. Well one jumps to mind although it wasn't funny at the time. Daughter came home late from friends house when she was about 17 (at her teenaged worst ) and accidentally threw out my hard contacts and put her soft ones in for the night. Christmas morning was-- well, whewww. It was ok though I had had those contacts for years anyway and ended up getting soft ones which I love. I had to wear my glasses to work for a few weeks while my new ones were ordered-- that was so mortifying for me, I have major complexes from getting glasses in the second grade. One of our assistant mgr.'s said something like " hey what's with the specs" and just a few months ago he showed up wearing glasses so I got to say--" hey what's with the specs" it was satisfying.

Tuesday QOTD- What is your favorite healthy party food? Do you have any healthy or low cal recipes to share?

Well something we made this year for t-day appetizers was the lipton onion soup dip with fat free sour cream and it was great! Had it with the roasted tomato and olive oil triscuits. mmm

My favorite disney moment was when my dh and I took ds who was 4 1/2 on Soarin' for the second time. We were at one point in the ride and he raises his arm to the sky and says "To infinity...and beyond!" LOL! It was really funny!

Had a good wi last night and a decent loss to report to LuvBaloo on friday!

Take care all,
Sarah

Kathy  that will be hard going to the hospice, but also very comforting, know what I mean? My mom had hospice care and was fortunate to go in the hospice building in Orlando, it was wonderful. My mom said the people there were angels  They were so great and I feel that we were blessed to be able to get her in there. I'll be thinking of you

Tracey you are quite welcome!! :worship: to you for all your exercise...I'm gonna dash out and get another walk in with my pooch, done with work and the rain/snow hasn't started yet...

Just got back my blood tests and my LDL is now 130, in the normal range instead of high! All the healthy eating and exercising has paid off! YEAH ME!!!

Did the 2 mile WATP this morning and then redwalker and I walked 4 miles at the mall. We wore the Biggest Loser shirts I made us and someone stopped us to ask if we had been on the show! And Santa said, "Hey, I know you!" after our 3rd or 4th time sprinting by him!

Going to do either the 2 mile again tonight or some Wii Fit after getting home and getting the girls to bed. I think I'll hold off on baking until tomorrow night and Friday!

Hope everyone is having a super day! Saving my calories for the pizza I'll be having after pageant practice tonight! Had my handful of M&Ms (well 2 small handfuls) so there's my treat for doing well today!

Ok everyone, here's the deal. I have lost weight the last 3 weeks (pretty normal for me) but usually on the 4th week I bake something, eat waaaayyyy too much and gain weight. I have to bake cookies this week for a christmas cookie exchange that I am hosting but I really want to stay in control and lose weight this week...it would be a huge breakthrough for me! So please think good thoughts for me. I know I will be using some of my weekly allowance points this week for the cookies, but I want to use no more than 25 of them.

Sarah

Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge Week 11
This weeks total group loss 1.2 pounds! (US Thanksgiving kicked some butt, even on the Canadians LOL!:lmao::lmao:)
Total group weight loss so far 374.5 pounds!
Group weight loss goal 500 pounds! As our numbers have dwindled, the goal is seeming harder. BUT it is STILL POSSIBLE! With 25 people weighing in, all we need is average loss of 1.7pounds per person per week! Can you aim to lose that? ( I haven’t been able to average that, but I’m going to try to stay focused!)

Average percentage of weight lost 0.01%

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 10? This week I’ve went with a simple TOP 11 LIST since I just couldn’t stick with a top 10 when there was only 11 losers. That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Congrats to you Jayne! I had to chuckle at our rather pathetic showing this week (as a group)! But hey... onward and downward!.......P

It's hard to bake and be tempted. One trick is baking right after a meal or drinking lots of water/tea, so you aren't hungry. It's easier to control your temptations that way, and maybe you'll just have a taste here or there, rather than 12 cookies. Sometimes I'll chew gum when baking, too. Sending good thoughts to you!

QOTD: Funny holiday story:
DH and I started dating around Thanksgiving in 2001. It wasn't exact since we were friends before that and when going out as friends became dating was a little mushy. So as November 2002 starts, I ask him which day we should celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Here's our conversation...
Me: What day do you think is our anniversary?
Now-DH: Thanksgiving.
Me: Right, but which date?
Now-DH: Thanksgiving.
Me: But Thanksgiving is a different date every year.
Now-DH: What?
Me: Should we pick the date of last year's Thanksgiving as our anniversary?
Now-DH: What do you mean it changes every year?
Me: Didn't you ever notice that Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday? And therefore, not the same date every year?
Now-DH: Oh.
