Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

QOTD for Monday: What Disney movie quotation best describes how you are feeling today?
"No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. Sometimes I just want it to stay saved! You know, for a little bit? I feel like the maid; I just cleaned up this mess! Can we keep it clean for... for ten minutes!" -Mr. Incredible
Sounds like parenting a 2-year old to me! Today was a challenge, as DD is getting over the flu and I'm starting it. I had a headache, muscle aches, low-grade fever, and just felt weak. But after 2 days of being a couch potato, DD decided she had some energy. *sigh* This weekend we had no plans, except catching up on house cleaning, well DD came down with severe flu on midday Saturday, so there went the weekend! It's okay, just tripping over a lot of toys as we couldn't find anything to keep DD occupied more than a few minutes today. Not sure how we'll fare tomorrow! How to entertain a toddler when I can't get off the couch?
Needless to say, I didn't make it to workout yesterday or today. Saturday we didn't have a formal workout either, but in the morning we went for a long walk. I hope to be back on track soon, in the meantime, I'm trying to make good food choices.

:grouphug::grouphug: to those of you who are sick, fighting sickness, or who has sick kids! What a wicked cold/flu season it is starting out to be! But for someone who depends somewhat on sick people for her work (I am a substitute teacher ), I am glad that I am staying (mostly) healthy.

I've been filling in for the gym teacher (yesterday and today) so I'm getting paid to get in my workouts! I walked around the school building (leading my different classes) 15 times yesterday!! At about 5 minutes per lap, I did okay exercise wise yesterday! I counted it as 50 minutes of exercise, since I wasn't always able to keep walking at a good pace (darn 1st graders and their short legs! :lmao:).

Well.. it's a good thing that I got in my exercise yesterday, because I had a "close encounter of the eating kind" with a bag of Baked Lay's chips yesterday. I just COULDN'T control myself. I probably ate half of the bag. I had the munchies, I was bored and sitting in the car waiting for DD to get out of swim practice. I intended to just pull out a large handful, count it as a serving with my sandwich for dinner, and be done a that.... but my stupid hand kept reaching for the bag and then up to my mouth!!:headache: What an idiot. I counted it for 6 points and it only put me a little over my points for the day, but what an aggravation.

Well.... I'm off to check on other things here on the Dis before my students come!..............P

ooooh I like that!!:thumbsup2

Hehehe, I was singing that song all day yesterday. I even used it as a "quotation of the day" in my classroom!

Today I am definitely in the "Just Keep Swimming" category... But I was thinking about that Newsies song, "Seize the Day" and hoping I can switch into that mode throughout the day.

Thanks for all the prayers for DH. He came through it fine. They found 2 small polyps and he has diverticulosis. He's very sleepy tonight but doing well. He'll probably head to bed soon.

Irish Step was great tonight! I'm wiped and man was I sweating! Had a really yummy eggplant parmesan for lunch and had roast beef on a pita with lettuce and pickles and miracle whip lite for supper.

Couldn't come up with a quote for today's QOTD.

Tomorrow will be 2 miles on the elliptical, 2 mile WATP, a 75 minute hot stone massage (which I were receiving but it's a work out for me), and then 3 miles on the elliptical while watching BL tomorrow night. Hoping to be 163 by Friday!

Bought a pair of size 10 Lee Rider jeans today at KMart and they FIT! and were only $14.99. Going back another day this week to get 2 more pairs!!!!

Congrats on the size 10 that is awesome!!!!!!

Also glad to hear your husband is doing well, that is great news!!!!!!

Just reading all your exercise is really inspiring!!!!! Hope you have another great day today!!!!

Okay - haven't been on in a while -- was feeling pretty lousy last week with a head cold. Didn't get in any exercise and just basically sniffled, sneezed and medicated my way through the week. I did manage to take off a pound but only because I stayed out of the pantry and mostly in bed instead! :lmao: But, then we had a gathering of friends at our house on Saturday -- our annual Chili-fest and it went downhill. Ate too much, drank too much and basically had a great time! But, I'm paying for that now and have to re-loose the pound I lost last week. But I'm back OP today and hopefully it will disappear quickly.

Monday QOTD...Change is nature. The part we can influence. And it starts when we decide. (Remy - Ratatouille)

I can make a change for the better -- I have decided to get healthy by losing the extra pounds I've been carrying around!

Oh, and then there's this one -- that mouse is one smart cookie :thumbsup2 If you are what you eat, then I only wanna eat the good stuff. - Remy

Of course the good stuff is different from what it used to be -- it's now the healthy stuff and although it still tastes good -- it's different from what I used to think was the good stuff, that ended up being the bad stuff, which got to be too much stuff in places that I don't want stuff sticking too! :lmao:

I have to agree with you...Remy is definitely one smart mouse!!! I'm sorry you weren't feeling well butI am glad you are the road to recovery!!!!

Thanks for sharing some of those quotes...that is one of my favorite movies!!!

QOTD:

From Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother said, "Even miracles take a little time."

This is my fave disney movie for many reasons. I love this quote. It means so much to me in just plain everyday life but even more in my weight loss journey.

Hmmmmm...

I think my quote would be from Beauty and the Beast: "I want adventure in the great wide, somewhere. I want it more than I can tell. And for once it might be grand, to have someone understand, I want so much more than they've got planned."

Awww I loved both these quotes too!! I definitely need to write these down and use them in my classroom!!!! My students already consider me the Disney "nerd" LOL!!!!

I also now have the need to watch all of these movies LOL!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! Well Ida had come and she has gone!! We definitely got a lot of rain from her and many areas are flooded (thankfully not in my area) and some in our city have no power but they are working on that...so as far as my first official tropical storm/hurricane I wouldn't mind ones lilke that!!!! However they are terrible for my diet with nothing much to do in the house, my husband who is also a teacher and I watched movies and we had snacks and I might have had real soda which is a huge no no because it is definitely a weakness of mine...so it was a bad day...but today is a new day...and thanks to reading through all of your quotes I'm ready to face this day!!!!! Want to send out get well wishes to many of you who I know are just getting over or are in the midst of not feeling well, I wish you all the best and hope for a speedy recovery!!!

Well I hope no one minds but I am having a really hard time coming up with something to ask today and I'm in the mood to do something festive, I was thinking of starting to make my wreaths for my front door today...so....in that line of thinking...

QOTD (completely not weight loss related at all, I hope that's okay): What is one of your favorite holiday traditions (whether Thanksgiving or Christmas)???

One of my all time favorite traditions is waking up early on Thanksgiving morning with a cup of cocoa (reduced fat this year) and watching the Macy Day's Thanksgiving Parade, no matter how old I get that parade still WOWs me!!!!!!

Hope you all have a great day!! You are all such a great support group!! THANKS!!

We also get up Thanksgiving and watch the parade. I think my husband and I enjoy it as much, if not more, than my kids. There is just something about hearing the announcers early in the morning that just makes it Thanksgiving.

QOTD (completely not weight loss related at all, I hope that's okay): What is one of your favorite holiday traditions (whether Thanksgiving or Christmas)???

Even though it's really one long commercial, we always watch the WDW Christmas Parade. By that time we have some gifts opened, and we settle in with some cinnamon rolls and just bask in the glow of a happy morning. It's really ds, my dad and me, dh doesn't like it and takes this time to get Christmas dinner going. I'm pretty sure ds is now watching to see Selena Gomez, and he used to watch for "Ickey Mouse"...

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning all! :goodvibes

jenjolt, glad to hear that Ida passed you by without incident! :thumbsup2

QOTD for Monday: What Disney movie quotation best describes how you are feeling today?????

I loved all the quotes. I like this one from Hercules (I Will Go the Distance):
I can go the distance and I'll stay on track.

Well I had to think about this one a long time!
Obviously there are so many that I cant even remember.
When I was going thru a difficult time I listened to Classic Disney CD #5 (I think) and this is a favorite quote from that:

"Though the steps he takes are infinitely small
They're a step in the right direction after all".
Its from "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"

I have really enjoyed reading all of your posts.:grouphug:

I really liked this quote, mullysisters.

I had a run in with pie today....3 pieces which puts me way over my points for the week. So frustrated! I really wanted to hit 4 weeks in a row with a loss but it is unlikely now. I will try to pick it up and do better and we will see what the scale says but it is frustrating!

Sarah

Bummer about the pie. I think that you have a good plan to get back on track. Do you think there was something in the pie that your body needed? Or was something else going on? You've come to far to turn back now. (That's probably a quote from something, too. ;))

From Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother said, "Even miracles take a little time."

This is a great quote, too!

Yes, my son's thoughts are turning more in that direction now, too. :sad1:

I am going to wait until tonight to answer today's QOTD because I will need to add pictures. ;)

Have a great, OP day all!

QOTD:
Our traditions are to watch a lot of Christmas movies. We usually put up the tree Thanksgiving weekend, unless we're at or going to Disney in early December. Can't wait for that to happen again next year! This Thanksgiving we are going to a friend's house. The kids will all have a blast and we will enjoy each other's company.

DH is doing well today. I'm kind of wiped. Don't know if I overdid it yesterday or the stress from yesterday caught up with me. Did 2 miles on the elliptical and the 2 mile WATP this morning. Just got home from work after doing a 75 minute hot stone massage. I want to do WATP again and maybe the elliptical again while watching the first hour of BL. Think I'm going to choose one or the other and not kill myself! Having my one soda of the day. Treated myself to a grilled chicken and eggplant rollup with fresh mozzarella and pesto. Caesar salad for supper tonight! Also craving chocolate. Oh yeah, PMS time! Haven't been as crazy as last month!

Hope everyone has a nice day. I'm thinking of a short nap before going to get my little one at school. Ugh and another play date this afternoon with the neighbors despite being so EXHAUSTED!

Jenjolt - glad to hear the hurricane was okay for you

QOTD (completely not weight loss related at all, I hope that's okay): What is one of your favorite holiday traditions (whether Thanksgiving or Christmas)???

I love Christmas Eve. DH & I started our own tradition of watching Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve long before we had kids, and now we watch it with the kids. Then I read them my copy of Night Before Christmas that my Mom used to read to my sister and I on Christmas Eve. The kids also get new pajamas for Christmas Eve (it used to be a surprise, but now my older one knows they are coming). They are already looking at pajamas in the store to show me what they like :lmao: They do know they won't know what ones they get until Christmas Eve when its time to put them on. We also have a special "Santa Key" that we hang on the back door so Santa can use it to get in. It only works for Santa. And of course the kids put out milk and cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. And through Christmas Eve, we go to the NORAD website and watch Santa's progress. I love how the kids are now remembering these traditions :cool1:and are starting to talk about them. DD (7yo) was asking about the Santa tracking last night. :thumbsup2 It is neat and I highly recommend it (http://www.noradsanta.org/) We also have traditions for Christmas morning (baby Jesus goes into the nativity scene, eat the orange from inside the stocking before eating the chocolate :thumbsup2)
But you only asked for one holiday tradition and not all the traditions for one holiday, so I'm way over my limit and its time to stop typing :lmao:

Wow..We have so many of the same traditions! Our daughter gets Pj's every year...we read Night Before Christmas..We have the Santa key which we hang on the front door..we watch NORAD..and of course Cookies, milk and carrots...

We also order a big "variety box" from Swiss Colony each year.. the ones with the little tiny amounts of everything..and put it all out on the coffee table while we watch a Christmas movie...usually Miracle on 34th Street.

Wow Shannon...you're house sounds so much like mine! My boys get new "Christmas" PJs every year for Christmas Eve. Also, they are allowed to open one present (usually the one they purchased for each other) that night. We do this because I am of Slovakian descent and grew up with Christmas Eve being "the holiday", not as big an emphasis on Christmas Day. All the presents and even the Christmas tree came from Santa on Christmas Eve. My mom would decorate the tree and put all the presents under the tree while Dad would take the kids to an early Christmas Eve mass and a couple of walks around the block - he would have to peak his head in our front door to see if "Santa" had visited yet or not -- I'm really surprised my Mom was able to do this every year until my Brother and I no longer believed. I can't even imagine hauling in a Christmas tree, decorating it and then putting all the presents under the tree in a couple of hours - all by myself! It takes my DH and I at least an hour to drag all of the "loot" down from all their hiding places and arrange under the tree! Anyway - I digress... So, to honor my old tradition -- we allow the boys to open one gift on Christmas Eve. We purchase a new Christmas book every year to read on Christmas Eve. We have a very elaborate Christmas eve dinner - always meatless (haven't really found the root of this tradition -- but I've always been meatless on Christmas Eve). We attend midnight mass and then put out cookies, milk and carrots for Santa and his reindeer. I'm really happy that my almost 12 year still believes OR if he doesn't - he hasn't told me yet :thumbsup2 Oh and we definitely track Santa on NORAD each year -- the boys start early in the morning and check all day long!!

I sent lisah0711 a message asking this, but I'm not sure when I'll get an answer so I'm going to ask you guys too. Can I join in on what's left of the Biggest Loser 8 and then join in on the next one?:confused3

You can join at any time! Just pm your starting weight to LuvBaloo -- and feel free to start answering the QOTD, doing the COW, and hanging out with the cool kids! Ok, Lisa explains it much better than I do...

I forgot about NORAD! The girls get sooooo excited to see where Santa is. Somebody also usually reads Twas the Night Before Christmas to the girls, either DH or my dad.

Ordered my photo Christmas cards this afternoon and picking them up tomorrow at Costco. We are using our family photo from the day we visited the Christmas Carol train. It was at the end of the tour with the table decorated and the scene behind us.

People think I'm crazy doing Christmas stuff already. I do what I can when I can since I never know when I will be working. Taking the girls to see Santa tomorrow in their Christmas dresses. Also doing some more shopping!

Tracey

PS Will do 2-3 more miles tonight on the elliptical while watching Biggest Loser . Didn't get the 3 mile WATP in today.

QOTD (completely not weight loss related at all, I hope that's okay): What is one of your favorite holiday traditions (whether Thanksgiving or Christmas)???
Of course it's okay to have non-weight loss quesitions! However, I noticed in everyone's answers that only a few were about holiday food. It's great to remember all of these meaningful and special traditions that aren't about eating! :thumbsup2
Thanksgiving tradition is to watch the Macy's parade and gather with the extended family - usually at my mom's house. This year will be the first "traditional" Thanksgiving for us since DD was born. Her 1st T-Day I didn't want to travel, so just my parents and sister flew out to us. Last year, we didn't have enough vacation time, so we flew to New Jersey ON T-Day and missed half the day. This year we're taking a little time off so we can be there midday on Wednesday. I like helping cook as well. We also make gingerbread houses - in teams/families.
We spend Christmas at my folks. Christmas Eve we usually have last minute shopping, then Christmas Eve service (yes, we're those people that go to church once a year for the Christmas hymns). My dad reads Addie "The Night Before Christmas" - I think our copy predates me! We put out cookies, milk and carrots. After Addie's in bed, the procession of bringing presents from the closet down to the Christmas tree begins. There is always something my folks don't bring down until after even the grown up kids go to bed. Christmas Day we open all our gifts as soon as we get downstairs in the morning.

QOTD (completely not weight loss related at all, I hope that's okay): What is one of your favorite holiday traditions (whether Thanksgiving or Christmas)???

I never watch the Macy's Day Parade. When I was growing up we were always driving to visit relatives in Pa so we never watched the parade and I never got into watching it. Now I usually busy cooking that I don't have time.

Now that the boys are older we really don't have too many traditions but we still have a few. I have to watch Holiday Inn with Fred and Bing and I have to watch White Christmas with Bing and Danny. White Christmas was always on a Sat night when were younger and the neighbors would come over and we would sit around and watch it.

Our Christmas traditions involve visiting my parents and family on CHristmas Eve. We do a buffet and then we all squeeze into the family room to watch the kids exchange presents. We go home so that the boys could sleep in their own beds. Christmas morning we wake up early and the boys open presents. Then we go to church, have breakfast and then the boys could open their stockings. Then we visit dh's family. THey came to our house until last year when we felt that the travel was getting too much for mil. So now I cook at our house and bring it to their house and it is another buffet.

The last few years we have given the guys calendars according to their taste. Last year ds2 asked for a special one that had twelve picture of major bridges of the world (He is a civil engineering major at college and that is one of the jobs that civil engineers build). I guess I should go to that site and see what they have for this years calendar. This same son loved the Tangram a Day claendar. He would work on them while he was eating breakfast.

The nicest tradition that started a few years ago takes place the day after Christmas. My friends and their families come over the day after Christmas. Everyone bring leftovers and we have another buffet but it different stuff for everyone because it comes from 3 different households. We don't exchange gifts we just sit around and talk and the kids play video games. It is nice way to end the holiday run around that takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Welcome! :goodvibes It is never too late to join a Biggest Loser Challenge!

Looks like Maria did a good job of giving you the basics and I also sent you a PM.

I'll be back later to answer the QOTD. I am a little behind so can't spend as much time on the computer as I would like. Darn this working for a living! :rotfl:
