Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

morning everyone...i fell behind on the thread over the weekend, hope everyone is well!

Oh heck.... I thought I multi-quoted, but I don't know where it went! Let me try again................P

Is it to late for me to join? I was doing really good, but my thyroid is back to being out of whack and I am pilling on the weight again. So if it's not to late is it ok if I join.

If it's not then Hello my name is Nicole, I just turned 25 two weeks ago (wahoo). As you can see above I have hypothroidism, it makes it super hard to lose weight and makes me gain it sooooooo easily it is really frustrating. I am married and my husband comes home in two months from Iraq. I am also serving in the Military currently stationed in Hawaii. I don't get out much but thats ok I have fun activities to keep me at home. Including sewing and scrapbooking. I find that if I am sewing or quilting I am not snacking. Hmmm maybe I should market Sewing as a diet tool :).

Welcome Nicole! :flower3: (Sorry my popup blocker limits me to the emoticons on the first page :sad2:) It's never too late to join! Please PM your starting weight to LuvBaloo and check out the COW (challenge of the week) in progress on page 1, post 4. And a big thank you to you and your DH for serving our country in the military! :goodvibes

Hey guys.... I HAVE GREAT NEWS TO REPORT.....

I GOT THE JOB!

I am soooo excited! I don't start until Nov. 16th, and I have to keep my current call through Dec. 31st, so I'll still be in the old department for a little bit, BUT I am soooo excited for this new opportunity!!!!:banana::banana::goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay:

That said, I am struggling a bit with the food. I have made some good choices, but have so much more to do. I do have something going on with my health right now, so I am very worried about that right now. I am not quite ready to say what it is, which I don't really know yet, as I need to get to a doctor. But I am worried.:sad2: I just hope it isn't serious. I have to say that my fears are helping me eat better.

Interesting how I feel right now.... VERY HAPPY, VERY hopeful.... and VERY concerned at the same time!

Yay, Vija! Way to go on the new job! :cheer2:  to you that your health issues are quickly resolved and not a problem.

Monday/ Tuesday QOTD...

Since I didn't get Monday's out soon enough, I'll make it a 2 parter for Monday and Tuesday....

Think back to when you were successful at something in your past (NOT necessarily weight loss... like school, a personal challenge, work related, relationship related, a personal goal etc)

#1 What was it

#2 what strategies/ techniques/ things that worked for you then/ Can you translate into helping you now with your weightloss journey?

When I was in law school (twenty long years ago) I lost 40 pounds. I did it by eating 1200 calories a day and by exercising an hour a day. I need to restrict my calories, which I do with WW, and exercise more. I know I need to exercise. Thanks to the COW I am heading in the right direction. It is going to take me some time to get that exercise a daily part of my life. I feel like it was easier then because I was single and I could eat what and when I wanted and could exercise whenever because I had no responsibilities. Thanks for reminding us that if we succeed at something that we can apply to those strategies to our goals in life now. One day at a time! :thumbsup2

50sjayne, glad to hear that your face is okay from your kitty injury. :)

Have a great OP day all!

Oh heck.... I thought I multi-quoted, but I don't know where it went! Let me try again................P

That happens to me, too. Now, after I type my very long, multi-quote post, I always copy it before I hit submit. That way if it gets lost I can just paste it. It's frustrating how it "poofs" sometimes! :headache:

Hey everyone!

I've mentioned before that I just can't seem to get "in control" and I kept falling off the wagon.

Well today is day 2 on track and I feel like it might have clicked. This time it feels different, and I haven't felt the click since I got back from my vacations in Aug and the beginning of Sept. Keep your fingers I am back on track :)

Good for you for getting back on track. I agree, sometimes I just feel "different" about my committment to the healthier lifestyle. I totally get you about that "click"! Great job getting it back!

Well I have returned from 9 glorious days at WDW and I weighed myself this morning for the weigh in (sorry for being so late LOL) and I actually registered a loss...no kidding I was down .6 lbs...but a loss is a loss and the fact that I ate all that food (It was a lot of food) and didn't gain but actually lost thrills me!! I still have some treats I have to eat...but I'm back to working out and watching those points LOL!!! So wish me luck this week!!!!!

QOTD List 5 words to describe yourself...

1. Caring
2. Intelligent
3. Passive
4. Fun
5. Inquisitive

SO envious about the weight LOSS during a vacation! I've only had that happen rarely!

Well, first of all, WAY TO GO on the new job. I know you have workedhard to get it! Secondly, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, regarding your health issues. Please let us know how things are going when you know more.

I just want to give a shout out that I resisted ice cream and candy corn tonight. Yep the sugar was calling me but I resisted.

I did great today, although I did end up with about 450 more calories than my high range - but they were all healthy calories. I guess not putting in my dinner calories before I ate them was not good and probably eating two whole avocado's wasn't either (they were starting to go bad and wanted to eat them before they did). Even so - the two small avocados were in the 350 calorie range and I ate no meat so it was still healthier in my opinion than having say a hambuger :)

Here was my yummy dinner -had to share cuz it was absolutely amazing! I make this often - but my "bean" mixture has been a work in progress.

2 ezekiel sprouted corn tortillas baked in the oven (no oil needed)

Gaucamole (fresh cilantro, diced tomatoes, red onion, lemon juice and avocado)

Black Bean dip - (1 can black beans, 1 tbsp tahini, lemon juice and water added till smooth)

veggies- fresh spinach, garlic, red onions and mushrooms sauted in olive oil

Then I layered the veggies, dip and guacamole on top of the corn tortillas! So good and it was a huge serving - But beware - don't eat all of it like I did. 917 calories - YEP, not good - LOL!

I love avocados too! I had a big chunk in my sandwich last night. But I really prefer it in the form of guacamole!!

Welcome Nicole! My DD is a committed swimmer, so I was interested to see your user name! Also, DD is DETERMINED that she will be attending the University of Hawaii in a few years. Any words of advise about that??

Sorry about the thyroid issues. Is it under control with meds? It can certainly wreak havoc with your metabolism.

I hope everyone is well today. I didn't get my workout in this morning because I wasn't scheduled to work originally. By the time she called me to work I didn't have time to fit in a workout. But I brought my sneakers with me and I can hopefully fit in a 30 minute walk here later. Plus I might have time for another walk tonight while DS's soccer team warms up before the game officially starts. I guess I'll have to squeeze it in where ever I can today!!..........................P

Good morning everyone!!

CONGRATULATIONS on the JOB, that is AWESOME!!!:cool1:

I am so proud of myself, I just wanted to share. I got up at 4:30am this morning :surfweb: and went to the gym and did an hour workout

I cannot tell you how HARD It is to drag yourself out of bed that early, in the pitch dark, get dressed and head out into the cold drizzle. I also cannot tell you how GOOD it feels when it is over! AMAZING!

It seems that on Tuesdays I am more motivated than any other day of the week. I know that my favorite show "Biggest Loser" of course, is going to be on, and it REALLY motivates me to push myself as hard as I can! I didn't lose any weight last week, but am down nearly 2lbs as of today (1.8):thumbsup2

QOTD

My biggest success, by far, has been being a good mother. The very first (and only) time I dropped off my 8 week old baby at the babysitters house, I KNEW I couldn't do it again, do I didn't. I quit a job I LOVED (McDonald's Corp. exec) and stayed home to raise my son (then sons).

I was successful at it because I knew it was the most important job I would ever have, and my success or failure would live a lifetime in 2 children. I monitored their diet, health, exercise and well being every minute of every day. I didn't miss a breath, a word, first step..NOTHING! I was there for it all! We struggled very much during this time, but would do it again in a heartbeat.

I now look at my 12 & 8 year old and I can see, and many people, often strangers, tell me how well behaved and impressive my children are (not to brag too much, but I worked my hind end off :goodvibes)

Now that I equate what I just wrote to weight loss it really opened my eyes. If I made myself that important I could do anything. GREAT question, it really gave me something to think about.

:welcome: swimchick1984! Its never too late to join BL8 :goodvibes

thelionqueen - way to get up and go this morning!:thumbsup2

A big congrats to Princess Vija on the job!

Welcome Nicole! (I'm a Nicole too)

Think back to when you were successful at something in your past (NOT necessarily weight loss... like school, a personal challenge, work related, relationship related, a personal goal etc)

I was cast in a lead singing role on a national tour when I was 19. In preparing for the final callback, I really paid attention to my health, as well as rehearsing nearly every day. At the callback, I performed really well, had fun, but it wasn't perfect. I still got the job though.
In my weight loss journey, I know that if I make healthy choices each day I can succeed. And to know that I don't have to have a perfect on plan day everyday to lose weight.

Congrats Vija on the new job. As someone who has been on the same job for 32 years I don't know what it is lilke to change jobs but anything new is exciting.

About 15 years ago I took a course on a special calculator. I started writing some worksheets for my kids to use. A couple of years later someone asked me to do a full dday workshop. I agreed but about a month before the workshop the person who asked me died in a car accident. AS it got closer I got very nervous about talking for entire day. A couple of days before I was sitting in church and the priest was talking about giving back to the community. It calmed me down when I thought about giving back to the teaching community. I have given over 50 workshops in the last 12 years. I even at one time had a following. I saw the same people over and over again at these workshops. I didn't do it last year and I missed it. My next one is Nov 17th.

I am good at these workshops because I have a way of bringing difficult material down to a managable level that most people could use. I also supply a great deal of material. (I have never finished everything that I had planned). People could use my worksheets the next day in class with no problem.

I am also good at these because I put a lot of time and effort into it. SOmething I did the last time I lost weight. I guess I have to start putting more effort into this time.

Have a greeat day.

COW results later today or tomorrow.

First, Vija I am so proud of you for getting your new job! I know it took a great deal of time and effort, and you prevailed! :woohoo:

Completing my thesis for my Masters was definitely a ton of work, but so worth it! I did a great deal of planning, working when I didn't want to, and focusing on it exclusively -- actually, the first time I really put on weight as an adult was during this time. I let everything else go to get it done and graduate. I ate quick and easy (and cheap, on an intern's salary), rarely went anywhere or did anything that wasn't related to getting the thesis finished, and then preparing to defend it. I think the single-minded focus is actually a caution, not a strategy. If I had been conscious of diet and exercise, I might never have had the slide into obesity. I have to make weight loss a priority, and I also have to keep the other areas of my life functioning. I still have a family, a career, and other commitments. I owe it to myself to have a full-life, just a bit less well-rounded. ;)

THAT sounds like so much fun! I especially like the Hershey's theme!

In 2001 I came down with a debilitating illness. If I wasn’t heading to the emergency room, I was searching for a new doctor to fix me or having yet another test done. If the disease wasn’t going to kill me, I was going to kill myself! During that time there was no hope. The best doctors in Washington DC couldn’t stop it. I went into remission in 2004. Surviving such an ordeal really changed me. Being on the verge of death and some days honestly wanting to die just to make it all stop does something to you. After I went into remission I gained 40 lbs. I ate whatever I wanted with no thought just because I could. I think somewhere deep inside me I still have the “I deserve this” mentality. If I want that cookie I should be able to eat it since I have already suffered so much. I need to change my unconscious outlook. When I realize that I deserve to be healthy, the strength and perseverance I gained from my illness will help me finally achieve my goal!

Just wanted to let everyone know I am still here, working hard, just really busy and not able to get on here very often. I am looking forward to the show tonight and the results of Friday's wi!

Drink that water!

Well, wouldn't it have been nice if it was a vacation until after the U.S. Thanksgiving?!? :rotfl: Have a great time!

Sorry about the thyroid issues. Is it under control with meds? It can certainly wreak havoc with your metabolism.

Well I didn't attend the Univeristy of Hawaii I can tell her that it super expensive to live here, the campus is very old and need of repair and that thier is not alot of housing. Tell her to look into Hawaii Pacific University. I dont know how the prices compare but the HPU campus is alot nicer as far as being green. Also what does she want to major in? The nursing program at HPU is looked at as alot better then the UH program.

As far as my thyroid it is currently not under control and I am waiting for an appointment with the endocronoligist. My family has alot of thyroid problems, so I was blessed.

I'm still sick. :( Boo. At least today was one of the best days I have had so far in school. I felt like I was crabbier than normal with the kids (because of being sick) which I wasn't thrilled about, but we also had far fewer issues today.

I weigh in tomorrow, and am so close to having a 5 lb weightloss. I am excited and hope it comes! I haven't managed to lose 5 lbs in a long time.

Hey everyone! First thanks for the congrats and good wishes, and also thanks for the prayers. I took the advice and made an appointment. The bad part is, I can't get in with my regular MD, but I guess it is good to get in and be seen. It is with a Physicians Assistant who works with my regular MD so hopefully things will be similar. Thanks for the prayers, I really mean it, I appreciate them more than you know!

I read the posts and they are all inspiring. I love the stories you guys have posted. I don't have the time to do personal responses today, and I'm on call, but tomorrow I should be able to do all of them.

For Wednesdays QOTD:

Pick your favorite Disney spot (WDW, DLR, Castaway Cay, DCL, etc) WHERE WOULD YOU BE RIGHT NOW???? What would you be doing, give us details!

AND how do you envision your next trip to WDW/DLR/DCL to be different after your successful weight loss journey?

Okay - absolutely favorite place - anyplace Disney! :thumbsup2 But, if I have to pin point it down to any one place, then the Disney Magic. I just love everything about cruising on that ship. I love that my kids have an awesome time and get to spend a lot of time with us, as well as time in the Kid's clubs making new friends and having a blast! I love the shows, the ports, the food (okay - maybe that's not such a good thing ;)) I love that my husband and I get some quality "grown-up" time even though we're on vacation with the kids! I guess there isn't anything I don't like about cruising on the Magic!

As for how I envision my next trip on DCL - well - to be honest - I hope to get into more photos. I'm usually the one behind the lens because I hate being the "fat" chick in the photo. I really get disgusted and depressed when I see my double chin and how I've let myself get overweight. I usually end up deleting most photos of myself because I just can't stand to look at those pictures. I don't feel comfortable in my current skin and really think that it is totally caused by my weight issues. So, with my weight loss, I am determined to prove to my friends, when they look at our photos, that I really was on the trip too!

Way to go getting up early, thelionqueen. I am so jealous. After every workout, I WISH I could do it in the morning because I feel so energized and awake after... But I already wake up at 5 (at the latest), and just cannot bring myself to set the alarm for earlier than that on a regular basis. Way to go!

Hmm... If I were at DLR at this precise moment, I would probably be sitting on POTC, watching the Blue Bayou pass by, which of course I have a later reservation for. Or heading to a fastpass at Indiana Jones...

I love NC_Tink's comment about getting into more photos - I feel the same way. Sometimes I look at pictures and am just disgusted! I have only gone with my parents and siblings, who are ALWAYS eating - and never healthy food. I have trouble passing up Disneyfood too, of course (who doesn't?), but I think next trip I will only give in when I am actually hungry, not just because I am sick of them making fun of me for refusing food. Also, I would love to not get quite so tired! I will probably be going with DBF next time, and he has REALLY long legs, and just motors everywhere. It's like he is always in a hurry - not sure why! I am working on him slowing down so he is not rushing so much (don't want to miss anything!), but I would love to be able to actually keep up with him (or at least mostly - his legs are well over a foot longer than mine!). Plus, I have only ever gone during the summer. I am seeing shorts and tank tops in my future for next time, perhaps?
