Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Thursday QOTD.................

Skinney Cow Ice Cream Bars.

I like these and the chocolate truffle ones and I bought a case of the ice cream sandwiches at Costco last week for like $7 as I had a $2.50 coupon for 20 of them. Good deal!

I'm really looking forward to Halloween though-especially since it's on a Sat night, more kids!
Come little children, I'll take thee away / Into a land of enchantment / Come little children, the times come to play / Here in my garden of magic. --Hocus Pocus

We really do the house-- we are one of those people- it's crazy how much stuff we have now. We have kids that come in the house every year just to look.

I'm looking forward to joining you as one of those people. We've never done much holiday decorating, a few lights at Christmas, a couple pumpkins for Halloween, but the new house just seems to beg for it! It is an 1880 Victorian with the potential to be really creepy at Halloween, especially since the neighborhood kids already seem to think it is haunted (or at least that's what they've been telling my kids - nothing like helping them get settled in, huh? :rotfl:). It also has the potential to be extremely festive/beautiful at Christmas, and I'm really looking forward to that as well. It is going to take a couple years to get everything together to do it up right, but even with the house as-is it should be a lot of fun to decorate!

COW 3

I know last week's dates were off. My calendar on the computer that I was using set for November. Send me your points for COW 2 starting tomorrow Spet 25th. It ends tonight the 24th.

THis week's COW starts on tomorrow 9/25/09 and will run until midnight Thursday 10/1/09.

I am glad that I got a great reaction to adding flossing to last week's COW. I have missed 2 days but I am thinking it about it more than I did last week.

This week I will add one more thing. Starting next week I will replace one of the 4 things I am asking you to do. A couple of these things you will be doing for almost 4 weeks so it should be getting closer to being a habit.

YOu get 1 point for each day you follow the COW

Drink 8 glasses of water (1 point for each day)
Spend 5 minutes a day doing something special for yourself. Sit and read, do some needlework, take a bubble bath. Just something for yourself (1 point for each day)
Floss at least once a day
Eat at least 2 vegetables a day.(1 point for each day you eat 2 veggies)

On Friday 10/2/09 send me

XX days drinking water
XX days doing something for yourself
XX days flossing
XX days eating 2 veggies

Thanks and enjoy the COW

DOn't forget to send me your COW2 points tomorrow so I can post results on Tuesday

Thursday's QOTD:
What is your favorite healthy dessert:

LF chocolate pudding with cool whip

I am struggling this week and stressing over next week. Next week I am going to one of the communities in northen Canada.....and this is a place where healthy food puts a new meaning to sticker shock.

Cathing up, because I've been lazy about checking in. It has been a tough week so far, just all around blah. Busy with kid stuff and eating out too much, plus it is ToM which saps my energy. I'm doing well with not snacking mindlessly, but we had McDs last night and DH took me out for lunch since he got home before the kids today, so those were two big meals off the wagon. Sharing with DD1 helps with portion control - she had all my spaghetti, half my soup, and about 1/4 my chicken parmesan at lunch -but what I did eat was still more than I should have, you know?

Wednesdays QOTD:

What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

I don't really have any. I read a lot, but never self-help type stuff. On a more philosophical/political level, my favorite books on the problems of the American diet are The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan, Eating Fossil Fuels by Dale Allan Pfeiffer, and Food Inc. by Peter Pringle and the companion collection of essays (haven't seen the documentary, though).

Thursday's QOTD:

What is your favorite healthy dessert:

I don't often eat dessert and I rarely crave sweets, so I don't really have one. Fruit, berries, yogurt, or an arrowroot cookie is enough for me to get my sweet fix 95% of the time, and for the once every couple-few weeks that I have a honest-to-God dessert, I'd rather just indulge in the real thing.

I ate ok today, drank all my water and even came home and got on the treadmill!

At my job we are all at 32 hours. I am the only one that knows how to do UPS shipping besides the girl that does it full (well, now part) time. Anyway, I do this job once a week and I run my butt off. Most of the time I do it on Thursdays. I should've known better than to tell myself I would start the Cto5K on a Thursday. I couldn't put it off any longer though and I bit the bullet and did it. My other job is a sit down job where I'm on the computer all day so on this one day where I run on concrete floors for 8 hours my legs get tired. I made it through week 1 day 1 though and it felt great....although my legs are super sore now.

Go me!

I was completely on track yesterday! It's about time and it feels good.

Right now I'm working on a plan to stay on track at the Nascar race this weekend in Dover. We usually grill (tailgate) for lunch and dinner. DH has already said he is bringing Bratwurst. I can either eat those and fit them into my calorie allowance for the day or bring other healthier alternatives for me and hopefully not feel like I'm missing out.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could make or bring?

When DH is grilling, I have him toss me on a portabello mushroom cap with a little steak seasoning. With a thin slice of provolone and a little A1 on a whole wheat bun, I actually like it better than a burger.

Sweet potatoes are great on the grill, and it isn't as tempting to load them up with butter or cheese or sour cream as white potatoes because they have such an excellent flavor on their own.

Stuffed zucchini is good on the grill too - slice it lengthwise, scoop out some of the center, and mix it up with whatever sounds good (sorry, I don't cook from recipes, so specific isn't my strong suit). One of my favorite low-prep combos is crab meat, Old Bay seasoning, breadcrumbs, minced onion & garlic. Turkey sausage, fat free ricotta, basil, oregano, sauteed onion & garlic, topped with marinara sauce works well too, but is too many steps for grilling!

I like Salmon on the grill. That's what I usually have when the rest of my family eats brats.

Thanks, MelanieC for being our coach this week! You had some great questions!

Go, Lynsey! :cheer2: Have you ever tried wearing a pedometer to see how many steps you log on those running around days? It might surprise you.

Thursday's QOTD:
What is your favorite healthy dessert?

I am not a big desserty person, although I would never say no to a piece of birthday cake. For the most part, I can get by with a piece of hard candy or a chocolate kiss for something sweet at night. That chocolate pudding looked awfully good, corinnak!

Please remember to PM your weigh in to LuvBaloo and your COW stats to donac tomorrow.

Good luck everyone on tomorrow's weigh in and COW report! :flower3:

Favorite Healthy dessert....well, it's not healthy but healthier than some things. I enjoy the WW Oreo Cookie ice cream bar. It really hits the spot for me. It covers the need for something sweet while still making me feel like I am not cheating but am enjoying something I would enjoy even if I wasn't op. I don't know how much sense that makes, but I am soooooo tired. I am 2 1/2 hours from being done with my second 16 hour work day in a row. Uggh. At least on days like this my food is all figured out ahead of time and I very rarely go over my points on days like this!

Have a great day!

Sarah

A lot of times stuff you make is better than anything you get store bought. Having a bunch of awesome hand carved pumpkins add a lot, you can buy those big dry stalks of corn pretty cheap at farms, spider web-- takes a lot of patience but the effect pays off. Target always has great stuff marked down after Halloween, time it right and get stuff 75-90% off. The Halloween store if you have one anywhere near you marks everything but costumes 1/2 off the day after Halloween. Some of those window cling things you can find really cheap at the dollar store are really cool- we use them on the garage doors and the cheap tie on the tree mummys- I use them on the telephone pole out front. The dollar tree sells those little stuffed crows/ravens? you can get them and line them up on the roof for a The Birds effect ;-)

Lol I have a kitten like that right now. Anything like that I eat she wants some--and she eats it all. I just had to put away the rice cakes because she decided they were the best thing since tuna. They all 'help' me eat my bacon in the am.

I had a nsv this week! I am now able to comfortably wear my belt in the next tighter notch! Woo Hoo!

Sarah

Down 4.4 :confused3 I put that icon because after all this time I still have no understanding of the scale. But of course :dance3:.

Here's to all of us. We're here and going forward. :thumbsup2

Stats for last week complete. Down but not quite a full pound. Time to adjust intake with both quantity & quality. More walking/running & weightlifting.

Tomorrow is Disney's "A Christmas Carol" train tour in Boston. After that lunch and probably some cocktails. Looking forward to meeting those people from W.I.S.H that plan to attend the meet.

Have a great weekend and a great week overall.

Another addition to your plan might be to decide EXACTLY when you will return to your regular healthy eating program when you return. I started right up the morning after we returned from our trip.... no "maybe tomorrow" or "probably next Monday"... the morning after our return I jumped right back on my plan, following my WW points, and journaling my food. That, by far, has been the best change I have made overall in the past 21 months.... I can fall off the wagon, but I get RIGHT BACK ON!! No beating myself up over it for days and regretting getting on the scale. I get on the scale, assess the damage, and get RIGHT BACK TO PLAN!
This is the best advice. My last trip, I came back and went right to ww the next day, and hadn't gained. then, continued to eat in vacation mode, and the next week was up 5. Right back on the next day is my plan now.

Thursday's QOTD:

What is your favorite healthy dessert:

organic 88% dark chocolate and organic peanut butter or almond butter - my version of a PB cup!

Johnsonville makes turkey cheddar brats that are awesome. Not sure of calories, but they are 3 ww points.

I love sweets, but when I'm on track, I like the ww ice cream fudge bars, a cozy shack tapioca pudding, or angel cake with strawberries and coolwhip. Nothing too healthy but the strawberries.

Thank you so much for all of your encouragement and advice!! I do have a starting date to get back on my program and it is the Monday I'm back (I get home late Sunday evening) no waiting to start! The next morning I will be up working out and making my lunches and planning my healthy dinners!! I have no desire to let myself get trapped in the "maybe" tomorrow routine...just right back on the wagon!!!!

Thursday's QOTD:

I enjoy the BlueBunny Fudge Pop Bars...they are 2 points each and chocolate. It doesn't get much better than that LOL!!
Great plan!:thumbsup2

:cool1: The scale is harder to understand than men are, huh? Congrats, Lisa!! 4.4 is awesome!!

Congrats on the loss!! Any loss is a good loss in my book.
I'm getting excited to do my first dis-meet, and meet some other local disney fans. Some of my friends and family just don't get it. See you tomorrow!

I'm down 1.2 this morning, and very happy. I did make some apple brownies and an apple pie the other day, and used lots of flex points, but brought most of them to work, so still on track. Love that wii-fit. It's been years since I would do any exercise in the evenings, but not anymore. I just want to beat that guy in the boxing!

Good luck everyone!

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow! I will be wearing a bright orange shirt with tigger on it and Mommy written in Tigger letters on the back. That's thanks to the disign thread! We'll be going to Fire and Ice first as DH and DD1 have a soccer game at 9. Hopefully we won't have to wait 5 hours to see the train after that!

Good morning! Thanks to MelanieC for coaching this past week!

I will be your coach this week, and am so excited! I am heading out to the Ren Fest this morning, so wanted to get the QOTD up before I head out.

Today's QOTD is being brought to you by Sarah's and my belts:

9/25 QOTD: Ah, the vagaries of the scale. It goes up and down, sometimes in ways we don't expect or understand. If there were no gravity and therefore no weight, only mass, how would you measure your success? Tell us your favorite or most anticipated Real Life Victory!

:thanks: Melanie for doing a super job coaching for us! and :thanks: corrinak for taking on this coming week!

i'm down (but just) .5 lb today....and yes i am happy it's down a little, but like i emailed Mom this morning....mediocre commitment equals mediocre results. there is just WAY too much tempting food in this house! Spanish exchange guest leaves Tuesday which means less dinners out and social 'eat'erings.

pjlla -- you really a HUGE inspiration for me right now! your dedication is what i'm lacking and your posts remind me of how awesome it really is to be in "that" place. haven't been there in a while i guess, a year probably.

sabushka -- what is a nsv?

well off i go for my day, i'll check back in later for QOTD

A big thank you to our coach this week, Corinnak! :cool1:

Yay for nsvs! :cheer2: Good job, sarah!

You Boston folks have a great time at the Dis meet tomorrow! It sounds like fun.

Hmmm, this is an interesting question. I had a nsv myself this week with my new smaller size pants -- found a skirt in a smaller size in my closet that I wore one day without discomfort, too. :thumbsup2 So that would be a more immediate victory.

For my anticipated real life victory, my dream is to be such a size that when I look in my closet for something to wear, I don't see a bunch of clothes that don't work, but a bunch of cute outfits that do! :yay:

I was a samer this week. I know exactly why because although I am doing reasonably well on food, I haven't started the regular exercise. So I am going over to the C25K thread to make a commitment and am going to make sure I exercise every single day for the next week!

Please remember to PM your weigh in to LuvBaloo and COW stats to donac.

Have a great, OP day all!
