Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

MelanieC, thanks for posting all that great info from the BL show last night! It was super! :thumbsup2

Hi, I just started this and didn't do the whole starting weight thing. Do I just post that here or what?

This is my first challenge and I am so excited! I'm 24 and have had weight issues all my life; always the chubby kid, last picked in gym class... I flip-flopped a lot within my general overweight status, and have never been too healthy as far as activities and eating go. Within the last year and a half I've even gained more. I would really like to get to my healthy weight of 135 or less, and more than that I just want to be more active. I want to one day run a half marathon or something, but that is quite a way off now.Anyway, I don't have any kids but I do live with my serious boyfriend, who has a ridiculously high metabolism, loves fast food, and is gerenally a bad influence as far as healthy choices go. Other that that, the biggest hurdle for me is work. I leave home around 6 in the morning, and usually get home 6 or later at night. By that time I am exhausted and really want convenient food.

Anyway, thanks for posting those tips from Curtis on BL last night; that was great and super helpful! Thanks again - I am so excited!

piglet18, you don't have to post your weight on the thread. Just send a PM to LuvBaloo, our weightkeeper with your starting weight. Then every Friday send her another PM with your current weight. It's that easy!

You might want to check out the first post in this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2275974 that tells you more about our BL challenge. And, of course, feel free to ask away here or PM one of us, me, LuvBaloo, donac or ohMom. Anyone on the thread really would be happy to help. :thumbsup2

That was a nice encouraging post for shortynbug so I would say that you are getting up to speed quickly! :flower3:

Congrats one the C25K run -- that is something on my list of things to do this week.

QOTD: I actually haven't read any though I would like to read the BL and some of Jillian's though I also haven't had much time to read.

Redwalker and I walked 7.5 miles at the mall today! We practically flew through the mall! I also did the 2 mile WATP this morning.

Still finishing up my water drinking for the day. I had my favorite for lunch today. It was a grilled chicken and eggplant calzone with mozzarella and pesto. It comes with a small salad so I had that for supper! It may have been too many calories so that's why I ate it at lunch. I also gave a 75 minute hot stone massage to a client tonight which was also a good workout!

Hope I see another loss tomorrow! I was down again this morning. I don't have any plans for tomorrow so I think I'll do some extra workouts.

Good luck to everyone this week.

Nice job on the walking and exercise. Glad to hear that you are feeling better and up to that. :yay:

Hey. Feel like I haven't been on in awhile. I've tried posting but it just kinda stalls and doesn't post. I can post on all the other threads and topics on the boards but not this one. Kinda strange.

Anyway, I'm still trudging. Not doing good at all. I've been eating all the crap I shouldn't and not exercising. I have been drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day though so that's a start. I finally convinced my hubby to bring my treadmill up to our bedroom so I don't have to go down to the basement by myself and I don't have to worry about the kids while I'm running and he's working. He's doing it tomorrow afternoon when he gets home from work so I can run tomorrow night.

I'm nursing a terrible sinus infection and keep trying to use it as an excuse and I need to quit. But I really do feel like crap.

Just wanted to be held accountable but let you know I'm NOT giving up. I've done this before and I WILL do it again!

{{{hug}}} shortynbug. Sorry about the sinus infection. You may need to tread water for a few days until that infection is gone. You have to honor your body and take care of yourself. :hippie:

Wednesdays QOTD:

What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

I don't read a lot of books on health and dieting. Now, magazines and magazine articles, that is another story. I read some of Jillian's Making the Cut but it was people who have only a few pounds to lose and that is not moi. :rolleyes1 I also read most of Mastering Your Metabolism. Like many things, some of what she said made sense to me and some didn't.

I was thinking about trying one of Bob Greene's books because he seemed like the kinder, gentler sort (I mean he worked with Oprah, right?) but after watching two BL episodes, I am rethinking that. ;)

I get to watch a DVC webcast in 15 minutes about Grand Californian Villas so will say good night!

TigerLily, we are all inspired by the people who are getting ready for marathons and just returning from marathons. Could you pop in and maybe tell us a little how the events side of WISH works in case we get carried away and want to do a BL team for some event? :lmao:
If you have questions about training, shoes, or just about anything running/walking related this is the place to ask. Someone has gone through pretty much anything that you can imagine and support is usually available.

This is for everyone! When you are ready we are here for you. The Events/Competition side of WISH was formed after many of us on WISH started to overwhelm the WISH side with our chatter about events and our training for the WDW half marathon. We started as basically all of you now in BL. We were a group trying to make a healthy lifestyle. Someone posed the question about doing a half marathon and wondering if we could indeed do this. We spent the year plus, training, chatting on the forum and working our way to the WDW half marathon as a WISH group.

Today you will find many ability levels training for a variety of events. The thing is, all ability levels are welcome to train together and we encourage each other during the training as well as at the particular events where we will meet and participate in the event or along the side lines to cheer those who are participating. Do not feel as if you do not belong. Everyone is welcome to train with the WISH Team. It does not matter if you do a 20 minute pace or a 9 minute pace. We all put in the steps and appreciate each other for the effort.

Because we have grown you will find smaller “teams” that we use to try to keep the small group atmosphere and where we are recording our training as well as chatting along the way.

The main monthly or weekly training thread is used to share training and chatter on a larger scale and is where we try to get to know each other in addition to the smaller teams or particular event training.

Welcome to the WISH Team thread is a sticky thread at the top of the Events/Competition forum and will give some history, FAQs, links and other information It is a good place to start.

There is so much I could say, but I think I've offered a good beginning. Stop by whenever you like. We'll look forward to it.

I just found this!
I would love to join in if it's not too late. I am getting ready to head to bed, so I'll come back tomorrow and post some stuff about me, and catch up on this whole thread.

Actually, the Bob on Biggest Loser is Bob Harper. Different handsome trainer named Bob. :-)

What DVC webcast is this? Is it for members or general? I got no email....would love to know what you learn!

Wednesdays QOTD:

What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

I have read quite a few and keep them handy for inspiration. It seems like frequent review helps a lot!

Current fave:

The End of Overeating By David A. Kessler

I think someone else mentioned it recently. It has revolutionized the way I think about food, the way I view my mindless eating, and has explained why my eating habits felt so much like an addiction.

Weight Watchers Weight Loss that Lasts by James M Rippe

Debunks 10 common weight loss myths.

Out of print but maybe available through the library, still:
Stop Stuffing Yourself
by Weight Watchers

Deals with common reasons for eating other than hunger - anger, sadness, lonliness, boredom and liking to feel full.

100 Days of Weight Loss: The Secret to Being Successful on Any Diet Plan

A daily dose of common sense and healthy thinking in convenient chunks to be read over the course of 100 days. Works with whatever diet you are using.

Finally Thin!: How I Lost Over 200 Pounds and Kept them Off - and How You Can Too By Kim Bensen

Includes information on choosing a weight loss plan and reviews many weight loss programs as well as telling Kim's inspiring story of change.

And finally, last but definitely not least:

The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook by Tosca Reno

Many excellent, healthy recipes that work well with many programs. Her boo, The Eat-Clean Diet has a lot of nutritional information and lifestyle tips. Her book for kids has made my son much more interested in eating healthy foods. Beautiful books, every one.

I was thinking about trying one of Bob Greene's books because he seemed like the kinder, gentler sort (I mean he worked with Oprah, right?) but after watching two BL episodes, I am rethinking that. ;)!
Bob Greene is not the trainer on the Biggest Loser .... Bob Harper is the trainer on the show. But Bob Harper has a book too. ;)

Welcome, Taryn! It's never too late to join a BL challenge. Please PM your starting weight to LuvBaloo. Next weigh in is Friday, 9/25. Also, you may want to check out post 4 in this thread for the link to the COW (challenge of the week!)

Actually, the Bob on Biggest Loser is Bob Harper. Different handsome trainer named Bob. :-)

It is about the Grand Californian DVC which just opened today. I didn't get the email either -- but signed up through dvcnews.com. It was pretty interesting and some really good incentives. I just bought 200 points when they started selling so I'm not really in the market. I had heard that they send you some pens and other promotional material so I thought I would do it. It was interesting!

Bob Greene is not the trainer on the Biggest Loser .... Bob Harper is the trainer on the show. But Bob Harper has a book too. ;)

Well, apparently I have to watch these shows and pay a little more attention because I don't know my Bobs very well! :rotfl:

This week has been rough all the way around. Between my kids and my para, I don't know who's more frustrating. On a good note though: I weighed in tonight and was down 3.2 pounds! Don't ask me how I did it because I really wasn't on plan this week, but whatever happened, it worked!

Hey everyone. I haven't been on because I woke up with a severe migraine Sunday and it didn't go away until Tuesday night. Only good thing is I lost 2.5 lbs and the bad thing is because I will start eating and keeping down food I am sure I will gain it back. Still I am going to try and eat healthy this week.

Congratulations everyone that lost last week and good luck to all that we lose this week.

Sarah, I hang my head in shame that your ds is better on daredevil rides than I am. ;)

LOL!!!! I really couldn't believe it! He absolutely shocked me!

Hope you are feeling better!

Sarah

Well, I'm hungry. This is where I usually will just starting eating more and negate the weightloss just started. I'm not really hungry- ravenous, but a little and I'm not used to that and I just want to eat some GOOD food. And it's just a downer to see how little food you can eat (ie portion sizes).
I think tomorrow I'm just going to be as active as possible because I need to eat. Good food too. There's been some really bad fires near us so lots of ash in the air-there was actually advisories to stay inside. At any rate I felt a little drug out and was on the computer the whole stupid day. It's just such a bummer to be done with the Harry Potter books too. Oh well, my Mom has the new Dan Brown she's done with for me Friday.

:welcome: thelionqueen, Devonsmommy, and anyone else just joining!!

what a great QOTD on the books -- i have a couple reserved at the library now ;)

yesterday I baked all afternoon for a bake sale, did really well not licking the batter, sampling, but did have some pumpkin dessert at dinner. i'm not feeling any different this week for tomorrow's WI, but i'm ok with it b/c i know i'm on the right road, making decisions that support my goals. just not enough of them apparently! my DH and I have been complaing of extra weight all year now and short of a totally restrictive diet I just don't know what else to do. he will not 'diet' and that's ok. i guess i need to eliminate some tempting foods from the pantry...but that's hard....

i should workout today...surely don't feel like it yet!

okay 50sjayne - how about a different perspective? Isn't it amazing how little food we need to fuel our bodies???:thumbsup2 It amazes me - I would eat SO much more than I needed. We really don't need that much do we? Also - I know what you mean about finishing the HPs - it's like saying goodbye to a friend. I'm about 3/4 through the Dan Brown and it's very very good - he'll take your mind off Harry. ;)

Good morning everyone, and a big congratulations to all the big losers last week, and a big:cool1: whoo hoo for Shewelch!!!!
There's some awesome losses there. I was very happy with my one percent, and thought I might even see my name up there, but you guys rock!!!

It's been busy here. My favorite season just began, but I love the cool, crisp days when I need a sweatshirt, and it was 86 degrees yesterday, and with all the running around, I was getting cranky and sweaty. It's still sticky today, but hoping it cools down for the weekend. I'm still on program! I haven't had much free time to dis, which is usually a sign I've fallen off the wagon, but I'm still on. Just 6 weeks from sunday til wdw, and I have some clothes to fit into.
I haven't read any good wt loss books lately, but think I'll checkout some of your suggestions. thanks.

I did read through the whole thread, and it's so nice to see so many people doing so well. Those of you who are struggling, just hang in there. We all have our ups and downs, and that's ok. This is a journey, and as long as we stick with it, we will make progress.

Cinderella girl- so sorry about your grandfather. My prayers are with you and your family.

jennz- love your positive turn around on the amount of food we need to fuel our bodies. What a great attitude.

Welcome to all our newcomers. This is a fabulous challenge, and we will be successful!! Have a great day!!

Well I've been struggling this week, but not with eating too much food, but not enough (I know what a problem to have) however I do know that to maximize your weight loss and keep that metabolism going you have to make sure you eat! However with my husband being gone I just haven't been motivated to cook dinner so I just snack here and there! So I'm hoping to eat more balanced the next couple of days, before hitting Disney!!

Speaking of Disney I have set 3 goals for myself to not get discouraged or break every good habit that I have made in the last 8 weeks.

1) Drink only water (yes even during Food and Wine LOL )
2) Workout every morning (I have found I have so much more energy, so I packed two of my workout DVDs and will make use of the SSR gym).
3) Be okay leaving food on my plate (I will not let the "clean" plate mentality strike me, I'm going to listen to my body and when I'm full, I'm full and done!).

Wish me luck, I have set a realistic goal of only gaining 5 lbs...however for the first time in 5 years this week I saw a 1 in front of my weight instead of a 2 and I would like to surprise myself but keeping that way!! If not, I'm okay with that and when I return its right back to doing what I'm doing now!!!

Okay thanks for listening to my ramble!!!

Thursday QOTD: The one weight loss book I am enjoying reading is the WW book on the 10 Myths of Weight Loss it is really putting some things into perspecitive for me!

Very exciting!!! That's cause to celebrate! At WDW make sure you tell them you're celebrating a milestone and get your Magical Triumph pin to remind you of how great you're doing. :cheer2:

Wednesdays QOTD:
What are your favorite books that have to do with health & Dieting?

My favorite is "You: On A Diet: The Owner's Manual For Waist Management"

Hi there, hope I'm not too late to join this challenge!!
I am a working mother of 2 boys (was SAHM for 10 years..best thing I could've ever done!).

I've struggled with my weight since the age of 8. After much discussion, research and struggle, I was able to have lap band surgery on 1/19/09. Many may think that having weight loss surgery is the "easy way out," nothing could be further from the truth. Truth is, it takes lots of hard work, exercise, committment and will power, probably even more than any other weight loss effort I've undertaken.

I've lost nearly 50lbs since January, but have much more to go.
I would like to lose 15lbs by the end of this challenge, which will put me at the LOWEST weight I've EVER been in WDW. We leave for WDW on 12/13 and I KNOW I can do this!!!

I've never done a DIS challenge, but think it will help me immensely.

If I can help in any way, just let me know. I hope it's not too late to join this challenge!!! Thanks!

Hi - Welcome, of course it's never too late to join :) I love your screen name by the way!!! Very cool!

Hi, I just started this and didn't do the whole starting weight thing. Do I just post that here or what?

This is my first challenge and I am so excited! I'm 24 and have had weight issues all my life; always the chubby kid, last picked in gym class... Hi there - so glad you are joining us. Just jump in like you did and start posting. A 1/2 marathon is a great goal. You can do it. I did two in 2005 and it was one of the best things I ever did. Crossing that finish line really lets you know that anything in life is possible!!

QOTD: I actually haven't read any though I would like to read the BL and some of Jillian's though I also haven't had much time to read.

Just wanted to be held accountable but let you know I'm NOT giving up. I've done this before and I WILL do it again!

Sorry about your sinus infection. Not feeling well really sucks. Glad your hubby is bringing up your treadmill. I know that should make it easier to do when you don't have to go to the basement. Mine is in the basement so I know what you mean. Hang in there, today is a new day and even though you haven't been doing the best, you can turn it around!! You can do it!!

I just got back from my first run under the couch to 5k challenge. I was out of breath and working really hard, but I did it and now I feel totally awesome! Almost makes up for that McDonald's cheeseburger I had last night; I just felt gross after that one. Tomorrow I have a cardio class, so I am totally pumped! Even though it is so hard, I feel so good afterward!:yay:

Woo hoo - way to go!!!

I just found this!
I would love to join in if it's not too late. I am getting ready to head to bed, so I'll come back tomorrow and post some stuff about me, and catch up on this whole thread.

Taryn

Welcome - it's never too late.

Love the name TARYN!! My DD17 is named Taryn!

How could I forget about my beloved EAT CLEAN books. I mentioned two others and totally meant to write about Tosca's books too.

Let me just say that TOSCA is the best! It's all about clean healthy whole foods! I have all of her books and am getting ready to order her newest cookbook that just came out.

Thursday QOTD: The one weight loss book I am enjoying reading is the WW book on the 10 Myths of Weight Loss it is really putting some things into perspecitive for me!

Woohoo to you for having a PLAN! That is a big part of the battle. And double woohoo on the new number in the hundreds place! When we were at WDW I was only a few months into my new healthy eating lifestyle (formerly known as a diet:rotfl: ) and it was tough... but I made a decision about my eating while on vacation and it worked out well. I won't say I didn't gain any weight, but I definitely kept it under control. While at nicer restaurants I ate only what I TRULY loved... prime rib, cheesecake and such... but of course in moderation. But I enjoyed EVERY bite. If I got a food I didn't love, I just didn't eat it... no sense in wasting calories on stuff that isn't really yummy. At counter services places I stuck with hot veggies, salads, fruit, lean protein, etc. I skipped the fries, hamburgers, nuggets, and hot dogs (not a big fan of most of that stuff anyhow). Now, more than a year later, I remember how much I enjoyed the great stuff, and I don't have ANY regret on having passed on the junk food! I just remember the pleasure of coming home and not having gained a huge amount of weight.

Another addition to your plan might be to decide EXACTLY when you will return to your regular healthy eating program when you return. I started right up the morning after we returned from our trip.... no "maybe tomorrow" or "probably next Monday"... the morning after our return I jumped right back on my plan, following my WW points, and journaling my food. That, by far, has been the best change I have made overall in the past 21 months.... I can fall off the wagon, but I get RIGHT BACK ON!! No beating myself up over it for days and regretting getting on the scale. I get on the scale, assess the damage, and get RIGHT BACK TO PLAN!

Have a great trip.... I'm sure you'll do great........................P

BTW.... for anyone who might have missed the BL show this week. FLN channel repeats it on Friday nights. I missed it because DWTS was recording, but I'm all set to see it tomorrow. I am excited to hear them talk about the food.... I'm kind of sick of just watching people sweat! :lmao:........P

Thursday's QOTD:

What is your favorite healthy dessert:

organic 88% dark chocolate and organic peanut butter or almond butter - my version of a PB cup!

I was completely on track yesterday! It's about time and it feels good.

Right now I'm working on a plan to stay on track at the Nascar race this weekend in Dover. We usually grill (tailgate) for lunch and dinner. DH has already said he is bringing Bratwurst. I can either eat those and fit them into my calorie allowance for the day or bring other healthier alternatives for me and hopefully not feel like I'm missing out.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could make or bring?

Thank you so much for all of your encouragement and advice!! I do have a starting date to get back on my program and it is the Monday I'm back (I get home late Sunday evening) no waiting to start! The next morning I will be up working out and making my lunches and planning my healthy dinners!! I have no desire to let myself get trapped in the "maybe" tomorrow routine...just right back on the wagon!!!!

Thursday's QOTD:

What is your favorite healthy dessert:

I enjoy the BlueBunny Fudge Pop Bars...they are 2 points each and chocolate. It doesn't get much better than that LOL!!

jenjolt!!! Congratulations on entering Onderland :yay: you have a great plan mapped out. i wish i would've commited to a simple-30 min workout each (or most) mornings our past trip. My girls were like "nooo....you don't need to workout on vacation" and I caved. told myself I'd be doing lots of walking and when we went to pool I'd actually get in and swim around. Well I did stick to that and still gained 6-7 lbs! I wonder if I had worked out if the benefit of revving my metabolism first thing in the day could've have made a difference?

just wanted to give myself kudos publicly....i did my workout after all :thumbsup2

QOTD -- i'm such a huge sweet tooth, and not denying it plays big part in my success. I like chocolate vitatops (2 pts)
