Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Good morning! Thanks to MelanieC for coaching this past week!

I will be your coach this week, and am so excited! I am heading out to the Ren Fest this morning, so wanted to get the QOTD up before I head out.

Today's QOTD is being brought to you by Sarah's and my belts:

9/25 QOTD: Ah, the vagaries of the scale. It goes up and down, sometimes in ways we don't expect or understand. If there were no gravity and therefore no weight, only mass, how would you measure your success? Tell us your favorite or most anticipated Real Life Victory!

Thanks MelanieC for coaching this past week. :thanks:

Welcome as coach this coming week corinnak :welcome:

ahhhh. nsv  got it! my nsv that i look forward to the most is pulling up my jeans and buttoning with ease..............

OK catching up. I've been sick all week with the headache, fever, dizzy thing that's going around. Oh the joy! I will probably check in every few days again because being on the computer makes the dizziness and head aches come back. BLECH!

QOTD frist, then weigh in and COW pm's next.

Tues: Fall is my favorite season because of the smells in the air, crunchy leaves and the colors. This is probably the only reason I stay in New England, I totally missed Fall in Atlanta and Hawaii.

Wed: I'm not a big healthy book reader, but DS13 bought all of the Eat This, Not That books and they are very enlightening.

Thurs: Fave healthy dessert. I like skinny cow ice cream sandwiches.
I also make this great fruit terrine, not sure how healthy it is but I take a rectangular angel food cake (walmart super store), slice it into 3 layers and fill each layer with a mixture of blackberry and strawberry yoplait light yogurt and mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, and bliackberries) and the second layer of cake and repeat. Top with berries and freeze for 15 minutes to set. I usually build it in a bread pan because it holds the shape without leaking or sliding around.
DH is not a sweets eater but he loves my terrine.

Friday:

pants size and if I need to squat to stretch the jeans out enough to button them. If I don't have to do that, then it's a great day. I'm not much of a scale person, it's more about how I feel in my clothes. If the PJ's come on at 5 because I feel bound, then it's been a bad day.

OK, time to do my PM's

I lost 2 lbs this week. :cool1: So I'm pretty much where I started out at the beginning of the challange, hopefully I will keep losing.

Thanks to last week's coach MelanieC - my favourite question was the healthy reading one:thumbsup2.

And an early thanks to corinnak for taking on coaching this week!:goodvibes

By my energy level and how clothes feel.
So far my favourite real life victory was when I wore a bikini at the lake this summer. I didn't look great and still lots of room for improvement, but I did it. DH said I looked smaller in the bikini than I did in my one piece. :thumbsup2 And I realized he was right, it was more flattering. I should watch What Not to Wear again. I really like that the stress dressing for your shape and size, and don't worry about the number. This last year I realized that dressing to look nice definitely improves my overall attitude. If a dress in baggy and shapeless, I feel unmotivate, but when I try to look nice, then I feel better and actually eat better.

Congrats to everybody who's weighing in!

Down a pound again. Very happy with that. Rewarding myself with a movie with Mom today.
Thought I'd post a few pics of the kitten I rescued a few weeks ago-the lot was abandoned, mom, dad and 4 kittens. I trapped little Ginny here with a fishing net and a can of tuna then posted the rest on Craigs list and promptly other crazy cat ladies such as myself took care of the rest. I am not proud to say I've been craving an orange one for a few years but none presented themselves to me in dire straights. Well Ginny fit the bill-these poor babies were starving, nursing off mama who was tiny and barely more than a kitten herself. Ginny was absolutely covered in fleas. Worst I've seen-- there were literally fleas living on her face. They were abandoned near a busy road on a hill and cars went fast. They seemed to have no fear of cars as well and after talking to her for awhile, Ginny seemed intent on crossing the street to get over to me where our friend lived so I just couldn't leave her. She's very startley and was very shy but very loving and definitely not feral. With a little work she's running around with Daisy-(the kitten we bottlefed) and running all over the house- she's definitely my girl though. I was so surprised she was a girl as there was an 80% chance of maleness in orange cats. We were going to name her Weasley when we thought she was a boy after the redheads in Harry Potter but named her for their little sister instead. She is my diet buddy too lol as she eats everything I have...

That's great Shirely! Great job, now it's onward and downward as they say! I was up less than a pound this week which I feel great about considering I was at Disneyland the entire week! I know I will have a great loss this next week which will take away that almost pound and a couple of it's friends while at it!

Good luck this coming week people! Be sure to drink that water!

As far as the QOTD goes, my favorite way of telling the difference is pictures. I took a starting picture as well as one at 6 weeks and 12 weeks and I will take one again every 8 weeks now. Sometimes I see no change or very little change even though I have lost a lot on the scale and other times I see a dramatic change even though I have lost very little on the scale. Weird.

Later,
Sarah

I was pleased with my weigh in- down 4 pounds! The BL8 show helped me through the week 2 blahs quite a bit.

Thanks to the person who mentioned at the beginning of the challenge eating for fuel- simple concept- but really helps me decide when I just want or actually need to eat.

Another thank you for the exercise challenge that I believe MelanieC put out in BL7- I have been pushing to 8 miles in 30 minutes on my exercise bike ever since (when I am consistently exercising)- when I was doging it and doing around 6.5 miles previous.

QOTD- I was able to comfortably wear my size large coaching shirt to practice yesterday without the jelly roll (which for real tends to be a beer belly since my husband is a homebrewer)- instead of wearing my XL to hide it which I have done for too long now.

Thanks to everyone for the support :grouphug:

and keep up the great work losers! :hippie::woohoo::cheer2:

Good Afternoon everyone! Thank you MelanieC for the great coaching!

I am down 2 pounds this week. Not as good as last weeks 6 but hey i will take what I can get!!

I also think my energy level & the way my clothes fit me… Last year for my Disney trip I bought a pair of brown plaid capries. I tried them on about a week ago for this year’s trip & they are a little tight on me. So my min goal is to be wearing them on my November 4 trip. :goodvibes

I like the idea of taking a picture every 8 weeks and see if there is a difference. I take such bad pictures I don't know if that will work or not. :rotfl2: I think I 'm going to try it though. Great idea Sarah. :thumbsup2

Howdy all! I hope everyone's Friday is good.

I am down 2 pounds and that is more than enough to make me happy right now. I've been bouncing around with the same three pounds for weeks now and finally I seem to be ready to let them go. Just 1.5 pounds away from a new number in the "tens" place... and it is a goal number, so I am excited. If I can just stay motivated and working out steadily, I should be able to reach that number by Thanksgiving... but then again, I originally wanted to reach that goal by this past June and that didn't happen, so no real "goal date" in mind now.

I'm glad to see so many of you posting a loss this week... that is encouraging!

To those of you from New England who are going to see the Christmas Carol Train, have fun. My kids are off school today and I considered taking them, but decided I really didn't want to deal with the driving/traffic. Plus life has been so busy lately we really needed at day at home to catch up.

50'sJayne.... I love the orange kitty! I'm a crazy cat-lady too... or I would be if I didn't have a DH who isn't such a cat lover.... having one is okay... having two is a stretch... more than that would put him over the edge. I only have one right now, but she is a LOVE. She is also a stray we rescued along with her baby (who was adopted by someone else). Truly she is one of the sweetest cats I've ever had.

Great question!! First way I would tell, of course, would be how I felt when I looked in the mirror. The second way would be how clothes fit, and of course, finally, how much energy I had.

The biggest RLV I have had so far has to be the huge increase in my self-confidence. I no longer DREAD going places where I need to see/meet new people (like the kids open house nights at school, swim team parents meetings, new work situations, meeting the parents of my kids friends, etc). I know I look good (or as good as I can for my age I suppose) and I can hold my head high with confidence. I'll never be a beauty queen, but I'm working on looking the best I can and being the healthiest, strongest Mom/wife/ daughter/Christian/sister/friend/employee that I can be.

I'm trying the Inside Out egg roll recipe for dinner with my parents tomorrow night. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'm topping the main dish with toasted sliced almonds and crispy wonton strips (well, maybe I'll let everyone just top their own serving as desired) and I am serving brown rice as a side. I may add another vegetable side too. I haven't given dessert even a thought yet, but maybe pineapple angelfood cake. I haven't made that in a while. See you all later......................P

My favorite victory?
Well I guess being married 20 years come Nov. is one. It certainly didn't come easy lol. Getting my daughter to finish highschool and then go to college is another I guess. The highschool bit was a battle--the college is mostly her, but you can't have one without the other right?
Another is cleaning out most of our house this year and having a garage sale. Really hadn't done anything on that scale since we moved in 10 years ago. Every time I go to put leftovers away it is so wonderful still...to find a container and a lid in seconds.
Also 2 very feral kittens we trapped and mostly I socialized. These kittens were absolutely the most wild and shy kittens I have ever come across and kind of beyond the window of socialization- age wise. It took a monumental amount of patience, knowledge and work to get them to come around. The male (Ricky) is very sweet, still jumpy and makes me wish there was a biggest loser for cats-- He is enormous. Lucy is always going to be shy but has her moments when you know it's ok to approach and pet her and she loves it when that happens-- drools away.
CONCORDSLASTPICS006.jpg

Also my 2 bottlefed kittens. Harvey was a good eater- no problems there, my main problem with him was aggression. I spent hours and hours of research to help overcome his play aggression and spent hours and hours playing with him myself lol. And did constant battle with husband and son to Not play with him with their hands.

Daisies problem was with the bottle. She was up constantly,(every 2 hours max round the clock) as she wasn't ever getting much out of the bottles. Believe it or not too-- she was really hard to wean off the bottle- refused to eat anything. I was a tired, tired woman. She was born a single kitten though and was content to play with herself.

Measure my weight loss? I have clothes that are 20 years old!! I'm very thrifty and sentimental. I use these as measuring sticks to tell how much I've lost.......and gained back : (

I have a denim jumper (shift?) do they still call them shifts? I put it on when ever I lose a few pounds just to see. Also my work unifroms tell me alot!

Life victory? Finally moving home to my farm and bringing my beautiful horse there during his lifetime (something I thought would never happen) He just turned 21 years old. Not as much my personal victory but a combined effort with my sister and my Nana.
It's my happiest place on earth !

Hmmmm... Life victories? A lot of things seem like victories to me. Having my two beautiful girls and my wonderful DH are victories! Also getting my first teaching job and then changing careers to become a massage therapist are more victories! I think I was meant to be a therapist all along. I love it and it has made me a happier person. I'm an optimist so I think I see a lot of things in my life as victories just because they make me happy.

Hope everyone has a super weekend and has continued success!

I have a pair of size 10 jeans I've been trying to squeeze in to...when I can get them zipped comfortably, I'll know I've succeeded.
