Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

so here's Wed QOTD:
Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Well, err-- the first thing that came to mind....

After that when my daughter was at her teenage worst I would go do the treadmill until I calmed down. All my stress came out then on that. When I was at my highest level of movie addiction-a 3 movie day meant I was dealing with a lot of stress. Keeping busy is good when I'm really upset- sometimes I'd rather be at work when something really bad is happening. I usually just vent to someone too if it's work related--they know it's only steam.

I like the second clippie also :)

The kittens are starting to play together-- that is so great! I thought Daisy would never break down...
I decided my reward this week would be to watch Sense and Sensibilty even though my husband will know for sure now about my silly crush. I am sure he suspects lol. He likes him a lot though so it's ok. I really want to watch Sweeney Todd but it's not Oct. Yet. I was saving it for Halloween.
**Just wanted to add we have a copy of Thomasina- my daughter really liked it. I wish we had a better copy.

Love the clippies, but Mickey's my favourite!
Thanks to calypso and corinnak for contributing :goodvibes

:welcome to Ronda93 & willonlyflytodisney

i am so right there with you! we are not alone! I'm struggling too and i know i have to really decide to just do it. make the right eating choices. and that it's going to take more than 4 days to see results!

QOTD -- i've been working on my scrapbooking alot lately. and card making. destressing in the evening at my house is usually vegging on the couch watching tv. I keep telling myself i will just go out and take a walk in the afternoon but it never happens. I do walk twice a week in the evening with my neighbors though and that is helpful. lately I've been hooked on Bejeweled Blitz on facebook...but then i feel like i've wasted time!

:welcome: Mom and all the other late-comers!! so glad you are going to journey this road of success with us!

just a thought -- sure wish cleaning was my de-stresser of choice :rotfl:

I know exactly what you mean about bejewelled blitz. Its such a quick game, that I find myself completely not realizing how many I've played, and next thing you know its been 30min. I have to be careful with that because it can add stress(guilt) when I lose track of time that way.

LuvBaloo:

The Three Lives of Thomasina is alive action movie staring Patrick Mcgoohan and those lovely children from Mary Poppins. It has a wonderful scene where Thomasina (who is a cat) crosses over and meets Bastet, the egyptian cat Goddess only to be sent back to help a grieving family in the Scottish Highlands.

Miracle of the White Horses stars Lilli Palmer and Curt Jurgens and is about the Royal Lipizzaner Stallions being rescued by Gen. Patton during WW2.

Thanks, now that you describe it, I do remember the Thomasina one :goodvibes

Taking care of my youngest is a huge stress reliever for me, even though she's at that mobile-but-doesn't-know-better toddler stage. She's my miracle baby, born after numerous unexplained miscarriages, a year spent trying to come to terms with never having a 3rd child, and DH finally having a vasectomy. She was conceived in that short time between the "big V" and zero count, thanks to DH skipping his follow up appointment and guessing at when it had been long enough, and she was just meant to be I guess because the pregnancy was completely uneventful. So any time I hold her or hug her or even chase her out of the pantry for the 10th time in a day or change a stinky diaper, I'm reminded just how blessed I am.

wow, that's a great stress reliever!

Ok I'm here to confess!

I've been having trouble staying on track. Not one day since we started have I had a good day. I think its because I've had so many days in the past month and a half of eating out and being on vacation. I was able to get back on track after Disney, but it's proving harder after the Vegas trip.

So today I'm recommiting. I got up and had oat bran with a banana and raw almond butter. I need to get a handle on this.

Did anyone see the report on how saturated fat triggers your brain not to know its full and this is how they believe binge eaters get in trouble. Interesting.

:cool1: good job recommitting! I haven't seen the report on saturated fat, but it sounds interesting.

I also like #2.

I like to get online or read when stressd but mostly just talk about it with my wonderful husband. That always helps.

On a side note, we had donuts for someone's bday at work today and I went down without my peach (which I had originally brought for break) and had every intention on getting one. When I looked at them on the table it just wasn't worth it. So, I ate my peach and was fine and dandy. Woohoo!

:banana: enjoy that feeling of success! Remember it for next time your motivation slips, and it might help you get back on track :)

I like all of the clips and appreciate all of the work that went into all 3 of them but I am gonna have to go with the majority

I like clip #2

now for the QOTD

I try to phone a friend or go for a long walk

Yea! I love my baby too , mine turns 1 next Sunday, and yep we are taking her to Disney for her birthday! Hooray for babies!

Awww, there's no better place to turn 1! Alas, my little angel has a July birthday and we're not big fans of heat or crowds, so it is unbirthday trips for her. :rotfl:

I like to DIS, because it keeps my fingers busy and I can't eat while I type...I also love to read, and I've finally started to use some of the things I've learned in yoga -- slowing my breathing, letting the tension go throughout my body, etc. I think the next time I feel really stressed and I'm at home I'm going to hop on the WiiFit. When I am super-stressed, my body just shuts down and I sleep very deeply. It's like I can't keep my eyes open. That does not happen very often, thank goodness! I think my body recognizes I have to turn on the "off" switch and process.

I like both clippies, but I guess # 2 is more relevant for this crowd! I am in awe of the time and talent it takes to make those -- I can't even copy them without detailed instructions! :rotfl:

I am pleased to report I've been on track with the COW and tracking my WW points to date. This is big for me, I'm not a good tracker! :rolleyes1 It's also a bit of a stressful week, but I've been making tracking a priority, and then it happens! I discovered a great method for the COW -- I just write the item & #s on a post-it, then I check it off as I do it -- 8 glasses of water = 8 checks under "water"! It's portable, it's easy to keep up with, and I don't have to think alot. Tomorrow I will have all my post-its, and be able to count my points. I'm also going to make a spreadsheet, but you can't beat post-its for ease!

Guess I'll chime in for Clippie #2 also. All 3 are great and it's hard to pick just one... HAH - sorta like potato chips :rotfl2:

As far as today's question goes: I find it very hard to something other than eat during a stressful situation. what I have done though - is to stock up on sugar free hard candy and some weight watcher snack packs for those times.
While I haven't mastered the "DON"T EAT TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS" lesson - I at least try to do it healthier popcorn:: popcorn is a good munchy too

QOTD:

If you have the luxury of some private space (even if it is a stairwell in your office building) put on some music and DANCE! ipod's are great for this - they work anywhere. I have been known to hide in the garage and de-stress for 10 minutes before I even get in the house from work. "dance to the music in your heart":dogdance:

I vote for clippie#2.

As for dealing with stress in a non-food way:

Sometimes I get so stressed I just have to take a nap as not to eat everything in the house.

Umm - just want to say that I adore naps.:lovestruc As in ADORE. :rolleyes1

I also destress by exercising, since I have started exercising I have noticed I'm a lot calmer about a lot of things and I really seem more relaxed, so it does help...must be those endorphines LOL!

Isn't it wonderful? Really, there is nothing like the release of exercise. When I'm off I so feel it.

Love this. :lovestruc

Me. I'm afraid that I'm not too good at it. Exercise is a huge one. I used to meditate but somewhere along the line I left it.

Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?

Like many of you I read, especially in the bath tub to destress, may do that tonight actually lol.

I also play video games on my Wii or DS.

Napping is another great stress reliever.

The first part of this challenge is always hard, I find the large thread intimidating. Admittedly tonight (and especially tomorrow night as I have restraint training until 9:00) I will be skipping the many pages in between.

I had to completely rearrange my classroom today in order to better control one of my students. My desk is now by the door and the tall bookshelf has been moved so I have an unobstructed view of all the students. I also spent a ton of money on sensory objects for my classroom yesterday (bean bags to squish students between, an exercise ball to roll on top of them for deep pressure, and a huge canister of playdough.) That seemed to work well on my problem child and I thought he was doing great until I realized my para was no longer in the room. Come to find out he had been bitten on the leg so hard it drew blood- through his work pants!

QOTD: I like to read to destress but lately I'm so exhausted I fall asleep. Honestly, I haven't figured out a good one because my normal way is to take my book to a restaurant. There have been days (pretty much every day) when I just want to lock my classroom door during my plan time or after school, crawl under my desk, and cry. I just have too much work to do to succumb to that particular impulse.

I weighed in today and asked them to start me over. My starting weight is 156.8. I apparently gained less than a pound in my few weeks without weighing in (and I've been off program much longer than that.) I think the physical activity I do for both my jobs really helps out.

QOTD: Its a fact of life, that you will have to deal with stress. What non-food thing do you do to de-stress?
Dance is the best one for me, but unfortunately I don't do it often enough. I plan to start going to dance classes in Oct or Nov. I'd like to do more at home - just impromptu or as a mini workout.
I've been trying deep breaths the past week or so at work, but so far I don't feel like it's helping. I think I just need to get better at it.

My vote is clippie #2 - I like the fall theme and the Mickey incorporated too.

I was really motivated by last night's BL show - did some light working out for almost the whole the first hour.

Not enough. I find that listening to music helps to calm me down, but it drives my 7 y.o. nuts. I always read when I crawl in bed, whether it's when the kids go down at 8:00 or midnight to help me fall asleep better.

Jessi - as a parent of a child with sensory processing issues, THANK YOU. It is so rare to find a teacher who gets it. I had to move DS7 out of the public school, which didn't want to deal with him, to a parochial school, who is bending over backwards to help him and taking my suggestions seriously.

I love this idea! I've blasted the music and sang alone sitting in my car, but never gotten out and danced. I have turned the music on in the house and danced with the kids. :dance3:

:grouphug: Do you have a teacher mentor to help you with ideas? It sounds like such a stressful, and also rewarding job.:flower3:

Really, my whole building is very encouraging. I rearranged the room with the help of the behavior interventionist with specific behaviors in mind. I have raided the sped storage room for sensory items and have been incorporating things that the OTs have told me have traditionally worked with the students. One of my tougher cases loves this dollhouse our social worker has but the problem is it is in her office. So my process coordinator is bringing me one for my classroom until I can find one at Goodwill.

For a while I literally had no break from my kids. I ate lunch with them in the cafeteria. I didn't have a plan time for the first few days until we gave my kids their own specials time instead of sending them with their grade level. Even then I wasn't getting it because I was constantly being asked to remove a child from the specials classes. The adults in my building to together, and now a different one accompanies them everyday in addition to my para so I will get my plan time. This includes people like our counselor, principal, social worker, and my process coordinator. I am extremely fortunate to have the support I do. It's just stressful to be the one on the front lines.

Here goes the last QOTD for my coaching week:

Its time for another fun question. How old were you on your first trip to Disneyland or DisneyWorld? And what's one (or more) of your favourite Disney memories (either at a park, cruise ship, or even just watching Disney)?

My first trip was to Disneyland when I was 22:thumbsup2

One of my favourites was on the Disney Cruise Ship, my youngest DD was 21months old, and loved characters. We came into the ship after being on the beach all day. Captain Hook was out, and there was only a few people around. Hook was very grouchy and acting rude (completely in character). My little DD grinned and ran over and gave him a big hug and then turned to smile because she wanted her picture taken. She held her hand up like a hook and had a huge grin. :lmao:

:goodvibesJessi,
that's great that you're getting the support from the other teachers, etc. I hope it gets easier as you get used to it

I think I was 4.

Seeing the fireworks our first day this last trip. It was our first trip in 10 years and somehow we ended up in the animal crowd moving toward the entrance then my husband ducked under a rope and we watched the fireworks from mainstreet with everyone milling toward the entrance- I remember thinking how incredible I thought they were, the dreams come true fireworks.

My mom said I was not "born" yet lol :) and she has said I have been there every year since I was 5 but I dont remember any until I was 7 :) haha
My favorite memory of disney was in 1999 and the reason why is because that was the last time we went for awhile before moving to az and it was in WDW and it was also the last time that my dad would be with us before he passed away and that will always be the best memory I will have with the whole family together :)
I am also hoping that my oct trip will also become one I remember second :)

Ok so I have been lurking regarding my progress and for some reason I just can't get motivated I keep looking at my motivation and it just doesnt help is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?
