Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

UGH! I am SOOOO Congested this morning and have a slight headache. Took my Dayquil so hoping it will kick in soon. Think I'll just stick to the Wii Fit today. Don't think I could get through the WATP workouts, maybe the 1 mile but probably not the 2 mile which is my favorite. Only have a few quick errands to run today so I will mainly just hangout and watch some movies and maybe shampoo my bedroom rug.

Raining a bit here this morning. Time to make DD1s lunch now and get dressed to take her to the bus stop.

Good morning friends! How is everyone this morning? It is cold and rainy here. I was up and showered and dressed for work when DS declared he had a sore throat, so we are both staying home. I will take it as a "bonus day" and sit at my scrapbook table most of the day!

QOTD: What cd is in your car right now? Well... I'll have to take a peek.. okay, I have

Cars soundtrack (great for roadtrips!),

Guys and Dolls soundtrack (one of my favorites... and DS is in the musical at school this year)

Phantom of the Opera soundtrack

Shout to the Lord

Journey Greatest Hits (most recent addition)

Lord I Lift Your Name on High

10 Disney Favorites: Songs from the Sea

Abba Gold

Disney's Greatest Volumes 2 and 3 (the rest are in the house and I rotate through them)

Carole King Tapestry

Car Talk (recorded from Audible.com)... love these guys!!

Chicago: The very best Volume 2

Best of the 70's Supergroups

Saturday Night Fever

A wide variety, as you can see. We are in the car a LOT, but it is usually a local radio station when DD is in charge of the radio buttons! She LOVES Taylor Swift right now.

Qotd Tuesday:
What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?

Honestly, I can't think of anything in particular that stands out. I was made fun of for being overweight in middle school, but honestly I wasn't really very overweight then. :confused3 Just kids being mean I guess.

I was always uncomfortable in my own skin when I was overweight. I NEVER wanted to be in a situation to meet new people, etc. because I assumed I was being judged by my weight. I even avoided situations where I might see family members I don't see very often. So nothing specific.... just lots of non-specific embarrasing moments.

I made a nice dinner the other night that I would like to share with you all. I didn't really stop and figure out the points/calories, but it was a delicious, relatively healthy fall meal. It is a "made up" recipe, so no real specific measurements, but it was so easy.

Pamela's Harvest Chicken and Sausage

5-8 skinless chicken thighs (you could also use breasts or legs)

4-8 sweet apple chicken sausage links (I can't remember the brand I used, but they were relatively low fat).

Butternut squash, peeled and cubed (I used 1/2 a large squash, but it wasn't enough)

Onion (1-2 large) peeled and cut into small chunks

EVOO

Maple syrup (real or fake or "light"... depending on your needs and tastes)

Poultry seasoning

Apple pie spice

Spray 9 x 13 glass dish with non-stick spray. If you are making a large portion, you may use a larger dish or two dishes.

Place chicken thighs and sausage links (alternating pattern) in dish. I cut the links in half before doing this to make cooking faster and portioning easier.

Drizzle very lightly with EVOO (you may brush it on the chicken thighs more directly if you are concerned about them drying out without the skin). Sprinkle lightly with poultry seasoning.

Top with squash and onion. When I made it, the squash and onion didn't cover the chicken... it kind of just fell into the empty spaces in the dish and some chunks sat on top of the chicken and sausage. Sprinkle all lightly with apple pie spice. (Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves would work also I suppose.)

Drizzle the entire dish lightly with maple syrup. I would guess that I used about 1/4 C of light syrup for a 9 x 13 dish.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for about 45 - 55 minutes (you may need to change baking time depending on your choice of chicken parts, etc).

The entire family (well, except for DS with his chicken allergy) loved this. It made excellent leftovers and reheated well. I LOVE butternut squash, so this was great for me. I was also going to add sweet potato, but I'm the only one in the family who likes them, so I didn't bother. I think that you could also add carrots..... I wish I had thought of that when I made it.

I used a store brand of "light" pancake syrup that I have been buying for years. I even watered it down a bit to make it drizzle easier. It worked out fine.

I also made hamburger soup this weekend. I use low sodium V-8 juice for the base, instead of tomato soup. I LOVE that my family likes this soup and they don't realize how good it is for them. I cook the hamburg ahead and drain and rinse it in hot water. I use about 1 lb of meat and it makes enough soup for 1 1/2 meals for the four of us. It is really low fat after I rinse the meat and it has carrots, onions, celery, and potato, so lots of veggies. The original recipe called for corn also, but we are not corn fans, so I skip that. I have put kidney beans in it in the past... they don't love beans except in chili, so they complained (although I thought it was great). But the beans are an excellent addition... especially if you are using very little meat.

Well... guess I will make the most of my "found" time and head to the scrapbook table!..........................P

QOTD: What CD is in your car right now?

Miley Cyrus' new one. I have an almost 7 year old who loves her.

What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?

I don't know of one incident that I was totally embarrasses but I'm never very comfortable when I'm overweight. If I think of one, I'll get back to you.

I'm back from the Race for the Taste weekend and shockingly (who knows if this will hold through Friday) my weight is actually lower than my weigh in last Friday and my belt is a notch smaller, too. Which is totally baffling because I ate (and drank) a lot more than usual this weekend. I guess we will see how things shake out in a few more days.

The race itself was a hot, sweaty sort of affair - 75º, 90% humidity. I still managed to shave a few seconds off my old 10K record, even with a bathroom break.

I'm so behind on QOTD, so I'm just going to jump in with the previous 2:

QOTD: What cd is in your car right now?

I rarely listen to the CD's in the car - usually the kids are watching Looney Tunes or I am listening to NPR, BUT I believe the one that pops up whenever we stop the DVD is Cabaret.

Qotd Tuesday:
What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?

You know, I haven't had that many really publicly humiliating things happen, but so many times I have seen photos of myself after an event and have been so ashamed of how I looked and didn't even realize. For instance, the ones from some friends' wedding when I had nothing I wanted to wear and what I ended up wearing really, in retrospect, showed off my fabulous...belly. The pictures from the half marathon in January when I was wearing a water belt that was really squeezing my belly into a big bulge. The thought that everyone saw me looking like that and I hadn't realized how I looked, I just winced when I saw them. Especially since the wedding pics were posted on Facebook. :scared1:

QOTD:

Fortunately I haven't had any embarrassing situations being over weight. I cringe when I look at some of our old Disney photos. Wearing really big shirts and some shirts that got a little too tight so my belly sticks out. This last trip was pleasant having lost about 30 pounds before the trip. Looking forward to my trip in December 2010 when I'm going to be in the best shape of my life!

Good afternoon all! :goodvibes No snow this morning -- yay! There will be plenty of time for that!

QOTD Tuesday:
What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?

Most of my moments are more "ugh" moments looking back at pictures. There was one memorable time when I was upgraded to first class on US Air and had to use a seat belt extender. :sad2: That put a damper on the whole upgrade thing. It had never happened before or since so I am blaming it on an old plane.

Have a great OP day all!

Hello everyone!
I just have to say, I KNOW I'm in the right place where I see MANY, MANY posts of people that have multiple Disney CD's in their car right now! :thumbsup2

I can honestly say that I have every CD listed (except Candlelight processional-my first one is in Dec) and every one is in my car!

I do have one that I didn't see listed, which is the Official Disneyland Soundtracks (2 CD's, one red, one yellow). That is one of my favorites!

I have to add that this week is a roller-coaster. I did great on the weekend (which I normally struggle a bit with) and am having challenges mid week (usually a breeze!). I ALWAYS swim on Tuesdays (love getting active to watch Biggest Loser), but today I have family in town and we are going to our family owned restaurant (Italian..OMG :scared1:). Whenever you get more than 5 Sicilians together it can only mean one thing..FOOD FEST!

Our restaurant serves hot, fresh homemade breadsticks slathered in butter, garlic and parmesan cheese. These are brought to every table when you sit down, and are unlimited (and now I see why I've been overweight my entire life :lmao:).

In any event, I just KNOW I am going to struggle with this meal, and WORSE I will be hard-pressed to make it to the gym in any event. Just had to vent, here's to hoping I can take the "high road" and resist the stick :rotfl2:

I weighed in tonight and I am down 1 lb for a total weight loss of 5.2 lbs! I have been "doing" (and I use that term loosely) WW for about 3 years and have not lost 5 lbs in all that time. Recommitting and starting over seemed to really help!

HI everyone I just made it home from school Yes I know I am posting at 8:40. I got in to school at 6:40 and I had some kids in for tests at 6:50. Then my regular dday. After school I had some more students in for make up tests and then over to the other high school to for a meeting. Then I went back to my school for the ALl SHore Band Festival. My sons high school were playing as was my high school. We got to see some great bands. MY school since they were hosting it were last and they played to Disney's Millenium Music. It was a great way to end the evening.

I am too tired to do anything else so I am going to watch the rest of BL and go to bed. Tomorrow mys school is celebrating Breat Cancer Awareness Day and I made pink scarves for all the female members of the department.

Have a great evening.

I had great Thanksgiving weekend. Enjoyed the family dinner. Lots of good but simple food. Had a salad of spinach, yellow pepper, cucumber with walnuts, dried cranberries and a light citrus dressing! Yum. Added a dill seasoning to the steamed carrots, which was a hit with everyone :goodvibes. And I tried a pumpkin chocolate cake, which was just a chocolate cake mix, with a can of pumpkin, a cup of milk and a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg. I liked it, it was light & tasty :goodvibes

now to answer some QOTDs

Disney wants us to volunteer. QUOTD Saturday:
Have you volunteered in the past? If so what sort of volunteer work?

for the last couple of years I've been volunteering with federal politics. I mostly started because I wanted some accounting experience and being the treasurer gives me something good for the resume. Eventually I'd like to some more meaningful volunteering, but so far its all done for selfish reasons.

Sundays quotd:

What was the last thing you ate?

Bad timing for this question, but I just ate some salt & vinegar chips, at least they were baked, and I did have room still with my weekly points.

QUOTD: What cd is in your car right now?

none!:lmao: Usually there's a mix I call (Shannon's Attitude!) and either Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus or Demi Lavato or Serena Gomez (my DD's love Disney's Family Channel shows)

Quotd Tuesday:
What is one of your most embarrasing moments relating to being overweight?

When my DD told her friend at daycare that I was pregnant, and the friend told her mom. Then I ran into her mom downtown and she offered congratulations and said she was wondering if I was. I don't like looking pregnant when I'm not :sad2:

Now to do the results post :goodvibes

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week X? For the second week in a row, there’s 11 people with 1% or higher weight loss, so I’m posting the Top 11. That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get!;);):rotfl: (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Pjlla-
Pamela's Harvest Chicken and Sausage

That sounds so good! By coincidence when I was reading posts and someone mentioned Phantom of the Opera as one of their cd’s I was putting together a cd around that for Halloween. Phantom of the Opera was one my multiple viewing in the theater movies-- I think my grand total on that one was 14 times ;-)

Thelionqueen-

Our restaurant serves hot, fresh homemade breadsticks slathered in butter, garlic and parmesan cheese. These are brought to every table when you sit down, and are unlimited (and now I see why I've been overweight my entire life
I love breadsticks! I don’t have a single Italian gene in my pool but really love Italian food.

Eeyore’s Butterfly--

You know that pink campaign has really caught on. What a great idea, making the scarfs.:cutie:

I should have asked specifically what was in your all's cd player (I knew you'd work around formats) but I have so enjoyed hearing what else you had in the car lol. I'm naturally nosy-- you have to excuse that. I just put together 4 Halloween cd's that I absolutely adore:

Thanks to my weight loss I still have a back after finding, downloading and organizing them :goodvibes

Oh, Shannon  - I'm with you - don't like looking pregnant when I'm not. Your embarrassing moment reminded me of one I had apparently blocked out:

I was at the co-op when my oldest son, now almost 11 was a 3 month old baby. The woman at the cash register asked when I was due. And I had the baby right there with me! "About 3 months ago." Ugh! I know people with the "pear" shape sometimes say they envy how "apple" shaped women can hide the weight more with shirts, but I do think that being mistaken for being pregnant is something that happens more often to us who gain and retain around the middle.

Here's to someday being able to even wear those empire waist shirts without people assuming pregnancy. That's another embarrassing more recent story, come to think of it.

Your T-day sounds wonderful. Now I want some of that salad!!

Hi all,

Congratulations to all the Big Losers this week. Keep it up!

Somehow I managed to lose weight this week too. I thought with cutting back my exercise to taper for my marathon I might not lose. A nice surprise that I did.

I found out that Mark and Jay Kruger the brothers that were on BL season 5 will be running the same marathon that I will on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if they've kept their weight off.

Have a great week everyone.
Cindy

I do have one that I didn't see listed, which is the Official Disneyland Soundtracks (2 CD's, one red, one yellow). That is one of my favorites!

Actually, I do have those, but they are not in the car. Those are my "kitchen" CDs.... I listen to them when I am cooking and cleaning. I bought them on our trip to DL in 2005 and I am INSTANTLY transported back to that trip when I listen to the music. When I die, I hope they play the Soarin' soundtrack at my funeral. It is the BEST!

Well folks.... I took a sneak peek at the scale and guess what?! ...... I finally broke into the 130's!!! I am not counting it as official yet (that is what the Friday weigh-in is for), but I have said for a while that the day the scale shows 139 (or less) I will take a photo of it and that is what I did at 5:50 am this morning!!! It has given me some FABULOUS encouragement to finish up today and tomorrow STRONG!! I would hate to not see that number on Friday for the official weigh-in... it would be too discouraging! That is a GREAT Picture of the Day (for those who scrapbook, I am doing the Project 365).

Well... I am subbing in Kindergarten today and tomorrow, so I better get moving... those kids don't wait very patiently! I hope everyone has a great day. Stay OP, keep moving, keep drinking your water!.................P

Let us know! The fact that they are running is encouraging. I liked Mark.

Now that you mention it, I've had the pregnant thing happen to me too. Twice! The one time I had lost 27 pounds and I was sitting with my arms crossed and my mom's "friend" asked me. My sister and mom were more angry than I was going on and on about how I had just lost almost 30 pounds and what not. Then last year when I went to vote I had an old lady ask me if I was expecting again. I was wearing a babydoll tee that was my fave until that day. Frustrating!

Sorry, I've fallen behind in my responses and weigh-ins!
I apologize to LuvBaloo for forgetting to weigh-in. Working a 4 day rotating shift, I usually don't know what day of the week it is, I'm always thinking it's Monday?
We've also been very busy winterizing the farm, building and insulating so not much internet time for me.

What CD is in my car?
I listen to ebooks instead of music-it's the only way I can get through my day at work. We buy them from Audible or get them from the Library, I have really enjoyed being read to! I listen to sci-fi and mysteries and Classic Lit.
I like non-fiction too, I just heard The Lewis and Clark Journals - fantastic- makes me want to see the American mid-west.

Most embarassing overweight moment?
I don't really think I've had one, although going out with my girlfriends to a club and sitting all night by myself was painful, but hey, that was a long time ago (and I'm still overweight, so apparently being embarassed isn't motivation enough for me)

QOTD: Most embarrassing overweight moment?
Mine too is just looking at pictures and being surprised and sad at how big I looked.
A few weeks ago I had a compliment/embarrassing moment. I ran into a former coworker I haven't seen in a year. She said, "Wow, between you and Josh (DH), you've lost a whole person!" I know I was overweight but I didn't think I was THAT big! I'm glad I'm on the right track now, but it's hard to hear that people think of you as overweight.

Congrats to Tammy - our BL!
