Big Thunder Mountain Closed for refurb!

This July I will be headed down to WDW with my gf for her first trip. I was very upset that Big Thunder Mountain will be CLOSED during our trip! Last I saw it was scheduled to open on I believe 7/16. Of course we're flying home on 7/14. Now I know this is a long shot but does anybody have any idea what the refurb is and if there's any chance it'll open sooner than that?????

Obviously this is no guarantee, but two separate times now, either Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or the Peoplemover (my two favorite rides!) was supposed to be under refurb during the time I had planned to be at WDW. However, LUCKILY, both times the refurb schedules were pushed back and I was able to ride them! This is just a waiting game, so it's not a perfectly helpful answer, but you never know how the schedule might change.

Where are you seeing that it will be closed for ReFurb? I will be going in June and I am not finding it listed on a few sites I have checked.

Check it out (even though there are just a few replies) as they have more information on the sources used to check whether or not there is a refurb scheduled.

INERESTING! I'm glad you made me go look. Up on Touring plans above it is still listed. I had seen it on a few websites where I can't seem to anymore but I just found this:

I assumed they were putting the dynamite explosion in the last tunnel like they did at Disneyland. I saw it last summer, it was pretty cool.

Oh no! BTM is our favorite ride and is scheduled to be closed for our entire trip.

This upcoming trip for us will the third time in a row that Soarin' is closed for refurb during our visit. Happened the last two times in DLR, and now this trip in WDW. Stuff like this just happens. You think its gonna ruin your trip, but inevitably you end up having just as great of a time as you'd have had were it open. We have. Don't worry about it and enjoy your trip!

Was a little bummed to see this too, considering Soarin' will be down too during our visit...Add in the uncertainty of the River of lights and other things and I'm really having a hard time getting super excited about this trip; but I'm sure I will!!

Super bummed to hear this! BTMRR was down for refurb the last time we visited a few years back. My boys stated that right away when I told them it would be closed. So we will miss it again. Boo....but as others have said, we will still have a great time. Sure hope Rivers of Light is open and that we can get to see it. Any day in Disney sure beats a day at work! Or school as my boys would agree most heartily!

I fully agree. Although now with it being listed on some pages and not others I'm just confused. We shall see!

If they are adding the new features like they did at DLR it will be worth it......it has added another new dimension to one of our favorite rides.

Hopefully it opens ahead of schedule and you get to ride it before you leave.......Fingers crossed!

I would have to wonder if they would want it closed at all during the summer season. Especially since Soarin' doesn't have an exact opening date yet it'd probably be bad for business if 2 major rides were closed. But then again, it is Disney
