~ BIG LOVE on HBO ~ Season 5 ~ Winter 2011

I really didn't like the new opening credits. The old ones were full of Mormon symbolism and really well done. . .this is just kinda' awkward.

Loved that Margene's business is taking off. Could not believe that Adaleen would send her daughter into the cooler to find. . .but then I thought, well, yes I can.

Alby and the receiver for the ULB. . . .That's all kinds of awkward. "Why yes, Bill, Alby and I know each other. . .there's a funny story there. See, he pretends he's a bird watcher and I pretend I'm jogging and. . .here's where it gets really good. . ."

So Tansy is away at camp? I bet she comes home totally changed by the experience. :rotfl:

Roman's white hat! :scared1:You can run but you can't hide, Bill. You are predestined to take over and restore your family's position as the inheritors of the Prophetship. Yep, you're pretty much fighting a losing battle on this one. On the other hand, we've gotten plenty of hints from Lois that when her father was prophet, the place wasn't nearly the pit it is now, (This jibes with the real RLDS politics, as I understand it.) it's possible that Bill could move Juniper Creek from wayyyyyy out there, theologically and politically, to just slightly out there. (I won't go further than that as I respect the religon ban - and I mean that quite seriously. I think it's a good rule, even if it keeps us from really hashing out Big Love. It's worth it. I can go elsewhere for those philosophical debates!)

Oh man, and Cara Lynn. I'm curious to see what she will turn out to be like - we just don't have enough information on her yet to know.

And I nearly fell out of my chair when Sarah told Barb that she and her husband were considering become UCC! Loved it. Barb's reaction was so spot dead on! (I was raised in a conservative Christian demonination/sect and moved to a quite progressive denom when I was Sarah's age. My mother's reaction was Barb's EXACTLY. :rotfl:)

And those illegal birds Lois is trafficking in? What happens there? Although I thought that bit about the worthless ****s was a little heavy handed.

Finally, anyone want to place bets on how well the casino does? I can see the writers taking the story line one of two ways:

1. Smash hit, draws too much attention to Bill and his family.
2. Goes belly up. Margene supports the family, which would make Bill feel like an utter failure.

So far...........

Likes:
having Roman around in some form
Nikki's character changing and I like her relationship with her daughter
showing a different side of Albie's character (last night it was the back side, lol)

Dislikes:
I don't like they had Margene kiss Ben
still on the fence with Barb and the casino stuff

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. But Tansy has been aged right? Its a different actress?

I also hate the idea of Margene and Ben. Maybe if this was during the first season, but not now.

She really doesn't even look aged to me. It just looks like they changed the actress.

So we missed the second episode & watched last night's. We couldn't find episode #2 on Comcast OnDemand.

Why did Joey dig up Roman? Did Roman have a proper funeral?

I'm hoping Joey kills JJ and his wheelchair bound wife then throws them in Roman's grave...let people think they returned to whatever the heck rock they crawled out from under. "There is no same gender attraction in heaven/whatever it's called" lol!!! I simply despise Alby although he was really gentle with his son, Thomas. Nikki carrying a gun around Washington, D.C. -hysterical. i HATE the introduction, it's like a bad trip. What's going to happen to sarah with that young native American mother and her baby hanging out at her house?

JJ implied he knows Joey killed Roman. Roman scratched Joey when Joey suffocated him so his DNA is under Romans nails so they dug him up I guess to dispose of him somewhere else.

I think he had a proper funeral but I can't say for sure.

I haven't watched last nights episode- I'm going to watch it tonight. Did they show Roman's body when Joey dug him up? I just want to know if I should be closing my eyes during that part...:scared1:

I'm not sure how I feel about Margene & Ben. I can't see how that will be a good thing!

For some reason, Bill has been rubbing me the wrong way lately. I hate how he always has to have his own way.

I used to hate Alby but I'm warming up to him. That may change after I see this episode though. :rolleyes1 I loved his and his wife's reaction when they found out Roman was dead- breaking out the beer!

Roman did have a proper funeral. Nikki attended even though she didn't want to.

Yes you might want to close your eyes

Yeah not only did they show Roman in the coffin Joey let the lid slip and it hit Roman in the head, lol. They also show Roman in a chair talking to Albie but he doesn't look dead.

Thanks for the info girls...For some reason I've become more squeamish as I've gotten older and I hate to admit this but I usually wait for spoilers for Big Love before I watch to make sure I don't see any gross parts. I love the show though so its usually torture waiting to watch!

I don't "get" Bill running for Congress. He is so self-indulgent. I know it's just a show, but does he think he could get elected, with so many people knowing he's a bigamist?

I feel the same way as Julie, lol. How can he get elected since a candidate would become an open book - three wives? How did they get away without further trouble w/Nicki and the whole gun episode too especially in todays times. But it is a show........

This week's episode left me cold. There are so many plotlines going on that I'm getting dizzy.

HATE:

The Margene/Ben storyline. Ugh. Are we going there again?

Bill running for congress? In what dimension would this be considered even a remotely reasonable idea? And he thinks he's going to get a new face on Polygamy because he's a Polygamist congressman? Ugh. Grow the freak up, Bill. This is Washington - the only thing that matters there is image, not doing the right thing.

I'm done with the entire Sarah storyline. She can go off to college and disappear from the show now, thankyouverymuch. Between getting pregnant, miscarrying the baby and her marriage to Scott this year, I'm ready for HBO to take her "it's all about me, poor me my parents are Polygamists" character somewhere else. Maybe they could give her a spinoff show that I won't watch but at least I don't have to watch it on Big Love.

And please God save me from the whole "bringin back dead regulars to advise the living" storylines. It may have been avant-garde on Six Feet Under. It was a little cute on Ghost Whisperer. It started losing some of it's shine on Dexter. Now it's tiresome and predictable on Big Love. Do they all have the same writers or something?

LOVE:

Barb finally listening to Jerry's son and taking his advice. She's trying so hard to be a businesswoman that I think she went too far with the employees at the reservation. Maybe she'll start backing off a little and start letting the casino work for her instead of the other way around. I hope so. Rootin' for ya, Boss-Lady!

Margene and her business taking off!! WOW!! I adore that Margene's finally coming into her own after so many years of being the naive, puppy-dog type of sister-wife. You GO girl! Just don't screw it up by messing around with your husband's son. (I HATE that story line! )

Don and Peg. I think they're finally going to tell Bill once and for all that he's not their prophet and he'd better get back to minding store business and let Heavenly Father handle Heavenly Father's business.

And, of course my big question: is Bill going to drag his entire family back to Juniper Creek to become the prophet there? THAT's what keeps me coming back each week.

You won't have to put up with the Sarah storyline too much longer. This is her last season. I read in Entertainment Weekly that the actress is moving on.

Different strokes for different folks :) I can not believe we are 3 episodes into a very short season... already.

I hate the new "falling away" beginning... everyone looks so distorted.. maybe that is the idea:confused3

The idea of Bill running for political office is absurd... but then look at the rest of his life LOL I thought he would/will return to Juniper Creek.

Love Margene! Love that her business is taking off! Love that she told Bill in bed that "she was not finished"

Find JJ truly evil, totally creeps me out... he is a good replacement for Roman's evil presence.

Alby.. Alby .. Alby "just foolin' around":scared1::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and he is being very bold kissing in public. His wife is so funny too.. she can do anything, build a bomb, be a nurse, over medicate family, and have a beer to celebrate the death of her prophet and father in law!! what a gal!!

Barb... is she headed for an emotional affair with the cute Jerry's son

Love Don... always have loved Don!!

Enjoying Sara and Scott... I like that she is unsure of herself but knows polygamy just isn't the way to go. She is trying to live a semi normal life and keep contact with her whacky family.

Nikki- that is one crazzzy woman. She is a complicated character with many different facets. Always interesting to watch.. sometimes annoying.. but That is Nikki!

Joey.. dear, dear dear Joey. :lovestruc a character to love... and crazy Wanda.. OMG! she is something else.

Bill's mom and dad ( Grace Z and Bruce D.) always stellar performances but they are totally, totally screwed up, mean, angry people.

Ben... a band?? how goofy was that????:confused3

When I was watching the new opening credits ( I don't like them) I was thinking if the poo hits the fan the only one who will be ok will be Margene...the rest can't function alone. Even with out her business being successful I think she would be the only one who could care for herself.

?'s
What is with the Ben Margene thing GROSS!!
Where is Ana?

I think Margene could be OK on her own because she grew up having to rely on herself. I suspect that's one of the things she and Bill have in common. All the others had support systems: Barb with her family and LDS church and Nicky with her hundreds of family members.

Ana is out of the picture because she married into the family and then left because she was afraid what she loved most about the family would be broken because of all the fights amongst the sister wives that occurred when she moved in. However, I wonder how much of seeing the family as some kind of a cult played into her wanting to leave? Remember, she had a fit when Bill said she had to turn all of her money over into the common pot, even her tips.

Thanks to the poster upthread who let me know that this is the last season for Sarah. I wish I could be more impressed with the actor who plays her, but I just can't. She played the daughter in Mama Mia and I still couldn't get into her as a believeable character.
