~ BIG LOVE on HBO ~ Season 5 ~ Winter 2011

Oh, I am really hating Bill!

Having Don take the fall...... Being so mad at his own son.....

Ben is leaving the fold just like Bill had to leave Juniper Creek.

Bill is not running for Congress, he is running for state senator. HUGE difference.

DP and I looked at each other during the beginning and both said "Sarah naked...YUM-O!!!"

Why didn't Dale make sure that Alby didn't have a boiling bunny on the table before going to change?

Grape Jelly? Really?

JMHO.. but tonight's episope of Big Love should have been titled " Bill is a big schmuck" not the word I wanted to use... but it is the DIS. ;)

Holy cow Bill.. selfish much?? Poor Don...
I felt so bad for Margene and Ben tonight.. both of them feeling so guilty. Poor Margene just breaking down during her tv show.. and there sits mighty Bill. I understand being angry but his rightous butt is just selfish.

Loved Jodeen tonight when she let all the birds fly free! Oh how I wish/hope Jodeen is actually Cathy...

Alby's gift of grape jelly... how cute! I actually felt compassion for Alby when he said that his prayers were now answered. but I do LOL when Roman's ghost is berating Albie. It is absurdly funny.

oh and JJ is truly, truly evil. He scares me every time he comes onto the screen.

Of course, I forgot and missed it. Did not even remember to recorded it - and everyone was watching the Grammys too. I will have to catch it when it's repeating.

I had words for Bill, too. When he stood by Don as Don was "taking the bullet", the sentence that came out of my mouth started with, "You unbelieveable #($*)#*)&@". DH actually came in to see what was going on because it's extremely rare that I talk back to the TV like that.

Bill's turning into Roman: being cold-blooded and sacrificing his best friend to get what he wants, all the time telling himself and others that it's for the greater good. Just like Roman did to his grandfather. Does Bill really think he can now make polygamy "mainstream" if he gets elected after he sold out a polygamist like that? The good Mormons of Utah will feel SO hoodwinked if he did that. If he sold out his best friend and confidante, he'll sell them out, too.

What the heck were the writers thinking?

And the previews for next week with the Margie thing? That Bill's punishing her for turning to someone else who shows the slightest bit of love that she's desperate for? Honestly, it's like he doesn't really understand anything. I think they're going to go the way of, "Well, of course Margene is turning toward Ben. No one else was there for her".

Nicki: Funny how Bill hated her sneakyness and underhandedness until he needed it. Then he exploited it.

Ugh. I HATE where they're taking this show.

BTW, anyone else think that Nicki's daughter is actually Wanda's daughter by her brother?

I couldn't believe Bill asked Don to take the fall. What a jerk. Worse, I can't believe Don did. :scared1:
Can't help but wonder though if down the line Don turns on Bill. With everything going on within his own family and the way the (ex) wives have been behaving it won't take much to push him over the edge. He just lost everything to protect them and the kids.

Ugh! Last night's episode was terrible. I have never liked Bill, but this season I despise him!!

I really hope Margene leaves him. She deserves a husband who will be seen with her in public. She is lovely, sweet and now successful - way too good for Bill.

I was wondering last night if there was a thread for this show. Glad that I found it this morning.

One thing I do like about this season is Roman. I like his character dead far more than I liked it alive.

Albie is creepier than Bill even in this season.

Oh, and I don't like the opening credits at all.

Now I'm going to go back to read the beginning of this thread.

I agree with the PP. Margene deserves a young husband who is always there for her and not just a husband who is there only when he needs her.

JJ implied he knows Joey killed Roman. Roman scratched Joey when Joey suffocated him so his DNA is under Romans nails so they dug him up I guess to dispose of him somewhere else.

I think he had a proper funeral but I can't say for sure.
He finally came out and said it to Joey last night when he was showing him the pictures of he and Wanda burning Roman's body.
I don't "get" Bill running for Congress. He is so self-indulgent. I know it's just a show, but does he think he could get elected, with so many people knowing he's a bigamist?
As a PP said, Bill is running for State Senate. Even so, what would one state senator do to promote bigamy in the state when so many others are opposed to it.

While you can't always leave issues up to a democratic vote, I can't see passing bigamy through any legislature like civil rights were passed. Some things can be justified and are the right thing to do. Bigamy benefits no one for the betterment of society.

Besides, Bill is running on the Republican ticket. No self-respecting Republican is going to fight for the rights of a fellow Republican's bigamy. Hopefully, this didn't breech the anti-politics rule on the DIS since it is about the show and is not an opinion of politics.
This week's episode left me cold. There are so many plotlines going on that I'm getting dizzy.

HATE:

The Margene/Ben storyline. Ugh. Are we going there again?
This is definitely setting up a parallel of Bill's departure from Juniper Creek because he was a threat to the other men of the compound. Since Bill was young and could have had a better selection from the joy book. Funny how things happen.

I just hope that this is Margene's wake up call that she deserves better than being a third string sister wife.

Bill running for congress? In what dimension would this be considered even a remotely reasonable idea? And he thinks he's going to get a new face on Polygamy because he's a Polygamist congressman? Ugh. Grow the freak up, Bill. This is Washington - the only thing that matters there is image, not doing the right thing.
Well said.
I'm done with the entire Sarah storyline. She can go off to college and disappear from the show now, thankyouverymuch. Between getting pregnant, miscarrying the baby and her marriage to Scott this year, I'm ready for HBO to take her "it's all about me, poor me my parents are Polygamists" character somewhere else. Maybe they could give her a spinoff show that I won't watch but at least I don't have to watch it on Big Love.
I like the Sarah storyline. I think the writers are doing a good job showing the contrast between her controlling father and her equal-partner husband.

I like how Bill and Barb would hovering over her and demanding that she return the child to the reservation and all it took was her DH to talk to her calmly to figure out why she wanted to nurture this child and why it was the right thing to give him back.

And please God save me from the whole "bringin back dead regulars to advise the living" storylines. It may have been avant-garde on Six Feet Under. It was a little cute on Ghost Whisperer. It started losing some of it's shine on Dexter. Now it's tiresome and predictable on Big Love. Do they all have the same writers or something?
The only show that I've seen that you mentioned is Six Feet Under. I think this show is doing a better job of flashing to a dead father than even Six Feet Under did.
LOVE:

Barb finally listening to Jerry's son and taking his advice. She's trying so hard to be a businesswoman that I think she went too far with the employees at the reservation. Maybe she'll start backing off a little and start letting the casino work for her instead of the other way around. I hope so. Rootin' for ya, Boss-Lady!

Margene and her business taking off!! WOW!! I adore that Margene's finally coming into her own after so many years of being the naive, puppy-dog type of sister-wife. You GO girl! Just don't screw it up by messing around with your husband's son. (I HATE that story line! )

Don and Peg. I think they're finally going to tell Bill once and for all that he's not their prophet and he'd better get back to minding store business and let Heavenly Father handle Heavenly Father's business.
PLEASE LET THAT HAPPEN!!! (Yes, I'm shouting.)
And, of course my big question: is Bill going to drag his entire family back to Juniper Creek to become the prophet there? THAT's what keeps me coming back each week.
I'm waiting for him to lose the election and decide that this is what the Heavenly Father had in store for him all along.
Different strokes for different folks :) I can not believe we are 3 episodes into a very short season... already.

I hate the new "falling away" beginning... everyone looks so distorted.. maybe that is the idea:confused3
The thing is, at the end of this beginning, Bill is still reaching for Barb's hand. She is his only true wife anyway.
The idea of Bill running for political office is absurd... but then look at the rest of his life LOL I thought he would/will return to Juniper Creek.

Love Margene! Love that her business is taking off! Love that she told Bill in bed that "she was not finished"

Find JJ truly evil, totally creeps me out... he is a good replacement for Roman's evil presence.
The guy who plays JJ really knows how to play a bad guy. He also made a wonderful vampire judge on True Blood.
Alby.. Alby .. Alby "just foolin' around":scared1::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and he is being very bold kissing in public. His wife is so funny too.. she can do anything, build a bomb, be a nurse, over medicate family, and have a beer to celebrate the death of her prophet and father in law!! what a gal!!

Barb... is she headed for an emotional affair with the cute Jerry's son
I like the sound of that!

Love Don... always have loved Don!!

Enjoying Sara and Scott... I like that she is unsure of herself but knows polygamy just isn't the way to go. She is trying to live a semi normal life and keep contact with her whacky family.

Nikki- that is one crazzzy woman. She is a complicated character with many different facets. Always interesting to watch.. sometimes annoying.. but That is Nikki!

Joey.. dear, dear dear Joey. :lovestruc a character to love... and crazy Wanda.. OMG! she is something else.

Bill's mom and dad ( Grace Z and Bruce D.) always stellar performances but they are totally, totally screwed up, mean, angry people.

Ben... a band?? how goofy was that????:confused3

I don't "get" Bill running for Congress. He is so self-indulgent. I know it's just a show, but does he think he could get elected, with so many people knowing he's a bigamist?

Actually he's a polygamist. Bigamy means that you are married to more than one person, but those two people don't know about each other. With polygamy, the additional spouses know about each other.

I do not like the direction they are going now. I really wanted to punch Bill last night. What an idiot! Poor Ben is being chased away just like Bill was. I am really beginning to hate Bill now. I used to really like him.

Oh, I agree with the poster that Nikki's daughter is actually Wanda's.:sad2:

New to this thread but have been watching Big Love since Season 1.

Okay isn't polygamy a crime? So couldn't Don be charged for polygamy as well as falsifying the books for the store?

I can't believe Bill asked Don to do that. :headache:

This season needs to pick up a bit. I'm rather ho-hum about it so far.

Polygamy is a misdemeanor. He'll get into far worse trouble for falsifying records than he will polygamy

The thing is, at the end of this beginning, Bill is still reaching for Barb's hand. She is his only true wife anyway.
We actually don't know who's hand it is. You're presuming Barb, but it could be any of the women including Sarah.

I'm presuming this because it is an older hand for which he is reaching. Barb is the only wife/character with older hands. They are not hands that are old enough to be his mother's or young enough to be Nikki's or Margene's.

I'm also presuming this because Barb is his only true wife and the last opening sequence had the two of them skating off together since their ice didn't crack Barb away from Bill like it did Nikki and Margene.

Anyone else have any ideas about the opening?

I think that Jodean is definitely Cathy... I liked her bit with setting the birds free while Lois and Frank were asleep.

hehe - I must have been sleepy - saying that Bill was running for Congress (I think I got confused since he went to Washington DC) and calling him a bigamist - not sure where that came from - sorry fellow "Big Love-ers", didn't mean to misspeak! (mis-write?)

Anyway, I'm glad it's been renewed, but I sure hope this season gets better. I'm looking forward to Sarah leaving Utah with her husband, which is what I assume will happen. Poor kid deserves to get away from that "family".

I've never really hated Bill before tonight. When he asked Don to take the fall for him, I lost any speck of liking I might have ever had for him. He's utterly detestable.

Usually I'm eager to dissect this show, but right now, I just want some time to get over the sick feeling in my stomach, the purely visceral response I'm having to Bill's betrayal of Don.

Oh my - I finally saw it. I had to tape the repeat 10pm show and saw it yesterday morning.

I can't believe how Bill is turning out - oh yes, we can, it's a tv show, lol. We are going to love to hate him. I feel sorry for Margene and how many things does Nicky do? and who is watching all these kids when they are all running around? - of course, it's tv.

Happy to hear it's been renewed for another season. It's the only show I try to keep up with.

I do like Big Love, but I don't Love it, if you get my drift....

One thing bothers me (yes, I know it is a TV show and not reality) but who is taking care of all those children while Barb is at the casino, Margene is selling her wares and Nicki is working for Bill's opponent? Teeny, maybe?

I must admit while it is getting soap operaish, I still watch faithfully...

karenos;)
