Big Doings at the Contemporary!

Hi everyone! We were back to WDW last night, had dinner at Chef Mickey's then watched fireworks from the beach. WOW! Took my parents, who were with us this time, out to see the BIG construction and Mom sais pretty much what we all have -- "How can they not announce that HUGE thing?"

because they are Disney! love it!

I had thought there was some stipulation in Florida timeshare law where the units had to have X% of the units online within X months before sales could begin..

Other than that, I think that they want to see SSR out...

To add to this post: DH and I several months ago were in the building at SSR that previews the AKV rooms and opened a door that the hallway looked very "futuristic" and similar to the Contemporary, we could not get into the rooms nor the AKV rooms without a guide. A hostess at the DVC office took us to the AKV rooms and we asked her about the mysterious hallway, she denied anything being there. Well, we just returned from new years stay today and saw the crescent shaped building at contemporary and feel pretty strongly as previous poster that it looks just like the artist rendition that was posted on the DIS. While we went to the Artist Palette last night for our cookies and brownie we looked into the back door of the building with the preview rooms and the carpet was brand new, had plastic laid down on it for what we speculated for the contruction workers. Anybody who is heading down there soon, just peek in the the door that faces the parking lot next to the DVC office and you will see what we mean.

Hey again. FYI, in the first photo DH posted, you can see in the foreground the "pathway" that will clearly become the skybridge to the main concourse of the existing building. Seeing that is what convinced me that what is being built IS based on the drawing we saw here! It will be SO cool to be able to walk from one to the other.

I wonder if this will be a good fireworks viewing spot.

As for saturating the market I think Disney has a terrific model for its growth. The first DVC units were built around the theme parks which worked perfectly. They got everyone who wanted direct tie in's to the parks. Now they are reaching out and offering alternatives in other areas of the country / world which pulls in another segemnt of folks who might not have joined just to have the resorts near the parks. I think it will be awhile before the max out.

With VWL - the resort was announced by DVC in late 1998. The resort opened in November, 2000 and DVC sales began there in December, 2000 .

I think that "skybridge" WILL be a great fireworks viewing spot. I am "directionally challenged" and never know what way I am facing, but DH and I discussed how nicely that new building is situated. A lot of rooms will look toward the MK and all that action, and the ones on the inside of the crescent will have a great view of the lake. That area of the lake is SO pretty -- it's really very quiet and seems so much more remote than the part near the Poly... When we were up on the roof lookouts at Cali Grill I realized how close Discovery Island is (whatever they call it now) and a zillion birds have taken over that place. I think the location is really lovely, and will be very peaceful if you have a high room facing the lake. It will be nice to be so close to so much yet have a peaceful location... That is what is so cool about Beach Club currently.

Since Disney is a public company, does anyone know how the revenue recognition works in regards to announcing and selling CRV? I know for my company, if we announce and sell a product that is not complete, we are not entitled to recognize the revenue on the sale of a product until it is commercially available. That affects our ability to do press releases and press tours for a product that may slip from one quarter to another. So the timing of announcements are directly tied to commercial availability. That being said, it seems that there are always loopholes. So I'm wondering if the same concerns even matter here- Does this work the same for timeshares? A previous comment on a building being 70% complete before they can sell it strikes me as perhaps a revenue recognition concern. That there is some sort of building completion metric that must be met before the accountants will give the OK to start talking about it. It may not matter that much on what unsold inventory remains at other units. The fact may be that bean counters don't want to announce and pre-sell CRV because they don't want to freeze sales of units that are commercially available today and that they won't be able to recognize the revenue of a pre-sale of a CRV unit until the unit is at some stage of reasonable completion in order to meet some sort of financial regulation. Public companies do not like non recognizable revenue.

That is just my hypothesis. I'm not an accountant, just know that revenue recognition rules are a pain in the rear end for my line of work.
