My trip report starts the day before we arrive in Florida as we had decided to travel down to London Gatwick Airport the night before our flight. We only live about 40-mins from Gatwick, but the M25 on a Monday morning? I don’t think so!!!

We woke up bright and early, and carried on with packing, tidying the house, sorting various bits and bobs out etc.

At around 9.30am we left home to take our babies, Hugo and Sassy, to their new home for the next 16 days - a cattery! They stayed at the same cattery when we had our 3-week wedding & honeymoon break. They were perfectly happy & healthy when we collected them - no fleas, no excess weight and they were so happy to see us; honestly they were (this picture of Hugo proves it!)

DSCN2794.jpg

So we didn’t hesitate to book them in the same place for our 2-week Orlando trip. Their new home was ready for them when we arrived but we kept them in their travel crate just a little while longer whilst we talked about food and Hugo’s medication. Our little boy has a heart murmur, brought on by a leaky heart valve bless him! He’s doing okay but has to have a tablet every evening. I am keeping everything crossed that when he sees the specialist for his annual review it hasn’t got any worse (we know it won’t get better). Anyway, we informed the cattery lady about their food requirements (my husband works for Nestle Purina Petcare and he’s very specific about what we feed them!!!) and told her how we give Hugo his tablet and what treats we give them both daily and weekly etc.

The pen we booked them this time was actually a fair bit bigger and had a few more shelves and climbing stands for them to play and climb on. They just love being up high! A few examples of where Mr Man Hugo likes to sleep / play every now and again follow… (and notice its only Hugo being the naughty cat!)

We retrieve him from these places very quickly honestly!!!

They seemed ok when they first entered their pen, not shy or frightened - they ran straight out of the travel crate. They started exploring and sniffing around and we could barely give them a cuddle to say goodbye as they were too interested in looking around! We eventually got a few hugs and kisses from them and said goodbye one last time. I hope they would start to recognise their surroundings and settle in quickly (the cattery lady said they might recognise it).

We got back home and had a late breakfast / early lunch and carried on with the housework, packing and tidying.

Suitcase nearly ready to go!

At around 1pm my Mum and Dad arrived, they had been ready to go since 7am apparantely! Hubby BBQ’d two steaks for us to share with some leftover salad and bread.

After a bit of last minute tidying, we were finally ready to pack up the car and leave for the airport hotel. Hubby had a bit of a job stuffing the cases into his car boot - it’s a funny boot and whilst is very spacious - is very awkward to actually get anything in it!

We left home at around 2pm and made our way to the airport hotel. We decided to stay at the Hilton as it is connected to the airport terminal via walkway so we wouldn’t have to worry about getting a bus or taxi in the morning.

After checking in and dumping everything in our rooms, we went down and had a drink in the bar. Mum and Dad then went up for a ‘power nap’ (which turned into a 2hr proper nap!) and hubby and I walked over to the airport terminal to check out the shops and restaurants for dinner later that night.

I went into Monsoon and was very tempted by a white skirt and pink top, but I decided not to buy anything as I knew I had already treated myself to lots of new holiday clothes! We got some additional Dollars, had a donut and drink at Krispy Kreme and then checked out the eating places. After seeing it, we settled on Frankie & Benny’s and returned to the hotel to wake up the Worms.

Dinner at Frankie and Benny’s turned out to be a real nightmare - first they told us ‘water finished’ - they didn’t have any mineral water left! Okay so can we have a jug of tap water? No sir, no jugs left, jugs finished, only glasses. Then the waiter came and told us that my hubby’s first choice of meal was also ‘finished’ so he chose something else. Then after waiting for about 35-mins, our waiter came over and said he was very sorry but the kitchen had lost our order. Lost it??? aaarrrghhh!!! He promised us he’d put a rush on the new order and sure enough, about 10-mins later our food arrived… or did it? No! They hadn’t cooked what my Dad ordered and instead brought him a Chicken Caesar Salad. We asked them to cook my Dad’s order ASAP and they said we could keep the salad to snack on. Eventually, all the food, the right food, arrived and we enjoyed our meal. I had grilled chicken sandwich with tomato sauce and cheese with chips (fries!); Mum had a burger with everything on it; hubby had some really yummy tasting pasta (can’t remember the sauce) and my Dad, as well as his salad, had a Calzone Pizza. We ordered a desert to share and that took 15-mins. We could see our waiter walking around the restaurant with it - the ice cream clearly melting!!! It was delicious anyway, and all the problems aside, the food was nice and that’s what matters hey?!

After dinner, the boys went off to watch a football match (might have been the World Cup Final?) and Mum and I went back to our rooms to get an early night. Do you think we got to sleep without any problems? No of course not! We’d been in bed for about 30-mins (I was watching TV, Mum was fast asleep next door) and the fire alarm went off!!! I got dressed as quickly as I could and ran next door to see Mum. We called the boys to see where they were and they had just arrived back in the hotel. They asked a Manager and it was a false alarm, someone had opened a fire door. Thankfully we didn’t need to evacuate, but we did have to suffer with the noisy alarm whilst the fire engine came and just checked everything was OK. Eventually it went off and we finally got to sleep!

Hi to anyone reading!

I've posted the first part of my trip report - but I thought I should warn you that there isn't as much Disney stuff as I would have hoped to have written... I will explain in more detail as the report goes on, but my Mum got ill  :sad1: on Day 7 of our trip and it kind of made our last 4-5 days of the holiday (when we were at Disney!) not as busy and jam packed and fun filled as we had hoped. It was still a FANTASTIC holiday, but the trip was a bit incomplete in terms of Disney stuff. As such, Mum and I are currently looking at going again in January '09 for a week - we will see how it goes!

I hope you enjoy it, I know I'll enjoy reading it back for memories.

Julie xxx

P.S. I expect it might take me some time to post the whole report as I'm getting used to trying to include the photos and everything (I took 1,400!!!).

I'm still reading Julie! Glad to see you've begun with the trip part! Sorry about the restaurant experience... I hope those get better! And to have your mum get sick on the trip!

I woke up bright and early, about 6am! We showered and got dressed, packed up our dirty clothes, toiletries and other bits, and then we were ready to get going! I had already checked us in for our flights online the day before; we had our boarding cards printed too, we just had to drop off our luggage. Flying Premium Economy was worth it if only for the short queue to get rid of our luggage - we wanted no more than 5-mins for a check-in person to become available!

Security and passport control was a lot easier than we expected, I don’t know if it was because it was still quite early, but there was barely a queue and we got through it very quickly.

First thing on the agenda when we got through to the departure lounge was breakfast! We found a really nice pub and the boys ate ‘full English breakfasts’ and Mum and I had pastries and cereal.

After breakfast it was time to hit the duty free shops. I brought some perfume (one of Stella McCartney’s!) and Dad brought some Whiskey - exciting stuff!

Mum and Dad waiting in the departure lounge:

002.jpg

As normal, we had got to the airport ridiculously early, so we had an hour or two to kill before it was time to go to the departure gate. We just sat around, chatting and talking about what we were looking forward to doing during our trip. Hubby was looking forward to swimming everyday in our Villa’s pool and going to the beach; Mum was looking forward to shopping at Downtown Disney; Dad was looking forward to going to the beach too and going shooting and I was just looking forward to that first few moments when you arrive in Main Street USA… you all know what I mean!

Finally it was time for boarding so we headed to the departure gate. Whilst in the queue to get our passports and boarding cards checked, we took a double take and wondered if my Mum was thinking of a career change to a Virgin Hostess…

004.jpg

She was wearing the same colours and so we teased her about it for most of the flight!!!

More waiting…

007.jpg

And finally we were off…!!!

013.jpg

Our flight was lovely; very relaxing and it was very quiet. We were in the upstairs (the bubble!) of a 747, it was much nicer than being downstairs in the main area. We were offered some delicious looking fizzy wine but my Doctor and Virgin had advised me to avoid drinking alcohol or fizzy drinks on the flight after I had very recently had a miscarriage (I also had to wear those VERY attractive flight socks!). I enjoyed water and juice throughout the flight whilst the others had a few beers (boys) and wine with their meals (Mum). I don’t remember what we all ate, but it was delicious. I think I’m one of the few people that really does love aeroplane food!!!

We took off an hour behind schedule but thankfully the Captain managed to make up some time and we only landed 25-mins behind schedule. The weather looked gorgeous in Orlando when we arrived, but we could definitely see a storm brewing in the distance!

Another perk of Virgin’s Premium Economy was being able to collect our bags very early on, what a shame we didn’t know what was to come… previously on arrival in Orlando, we have collected our bags from the normal baggage conveyer belts and had to put it on another long conveyer belt to transport it to a different terminal building (I don’t know if you have to do this on an American domestic flight???). Anyway, this year we were given the option of putting our bags on this conveyer belt or carrying them with us. The chap said it would be a 15-min walk until we reached the other end; as the Worms had 3 bags between them, and my Mum’s back isn’t that good, we thought we’d better let the airport staff transfer them… we arrived at the other end (about 15-mins later) to be greeted by this:

017.jpg

If you can’t read it… our bags were delayed due to severe weather (it was pouring with rain outside and we could hear thunder in the distance!). We asked a few airport staff and they said the delay could be up to 1.5hrs!!! We were so annoyed with ourselves, if only we had just carried our bags, we might be on the way to our Villa by now!!!

I think we waited for about 1hr 15-mins in the end… it felt like we were the only one’s around who had been affected…

014.jpg

Hubby, Dad and I went to collect our rental car and we decided to upgrade from a luxury sized car to a minivan / people carrier. It just had more legroom and space for our bags and SHOPPING!!! The car was lovely (sorry I didn’t take any pictures of it from the outside!).

By the time we returned from collecting the car, our luggage had arrived and we could finally set off. A few pictures from our journey:

On the road that connects the airport to the I4 (I think!)

Joining the I4… we love the I4!!!

Getting nearer and nearer to our exit, we spy this…

Eventually we arrived at our home for the next 10-days. We had booked a 3-bedroom villa with pool at the Ginn Reunion Resort. On returning back to the UK, we were really pleased to hear that Katie and Peter Andre had stayed there recently too!!! We wished we had known beforehand, we could have gone hunting for their Villa! Anyway… we had to check in at the Reunion Grande, which is the hotel within the resort. We were very pleased to hear we’d be upgraded to a 4-bedroom villa, all that space would be lovely. I have a habit of spreading out when I’m on holiday… come to think of it, I do at home!!!

You might remember reading in my pre-trip report about our family having a tendancy to get lost? Well this time was no exception… we had very simple directions to our villa but could we find it? No!!! Half an hour later, we eventually gave up and returned to the main hotel to ask again. It turns out the person who checked us in had given us the wrong directions so we felt excused this time!!!

We were so happy with the villa - it was huge, comfortable, clean, cosy, well laid out - perfect! There was one problem I was a bit worried about… my hubby and I sleep at home in a king sized bed (I think in America you might call it a queen? It’s huge!) and the American ‘doubles’ are very small (in English we’d call them large singles!). As the Worms had paid for the trip, it was only fair they took the master suite with the really huge bed in it! So I rang the main reception and asked if they had any alternatives that we could perhaps switch to, but not this week, they were booked solid. They did, however, give us permission to move a single bed into the double room (was a tight squeeze but we managed it!):

Anyway, here are some more pictures of our villa:

It was amazing and I would not hesitate to recommend the Ginn Reunion Resort for those who do like to stay off-site! It was about 20-mins to Disney so not bad at all.

After a brief rest and bathroom break, we headed straight out to our nearest supermarket to stock up on supplies for the week ahead. It was Publix (at Championsgate, although they are opening one very soon opposite the Reunion Resort) - our personal favourite!!!

We were all pretty tired from travelling, we were a lot later in our schedule than we thought so we didn’t get everything we wanted / needed which was a shame (but at least it meant we could keep going back!).

I love shopping in American supermarkets - you all get so much choice compared to the UK!!! And you get really interesting things too!!!

After returning back to the villa, we ate a hot chicken, salad and bread for dinner and then unpacked a few things and settled in, before finally getting into bed at around 10.30pm (remember it was 5hrs later to us!!!).

Coming next… our first full day in Orlando and we’re going to Magic Kingdom!!!

If anyone knows how I can reduce the size of my pictures, please let me know - they are huge!!! I will try and work on that for the next post, promise!

I have news - I am pregnant again! Its been nearly 2 months since my miscarriage so I am really delighted. Its very early days again, as you can see by my ticker, but I have to keep positive and keep everything crossed this little bean is a sticker.

Not sure whether this means I will get to go to Disney in January with Mum, need to check dates and see how everything goes. BUT good news is, yesterday hubby promised that if I was pregnant this month, we could go to Disneyland Paris for 2 nights over our 1st wedding anniversary in October, told him he has to keep his promise!!!

congratulations on your pregnancy. Your resort looks really nice. I might have to remember that next time I am in WDW...is it any cheaper than WDW (which I am sure it is due to the room differences)

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

How exciting!

Your villa looks great!

Thanks so much!!! The Villa was gorgeous - really really nice!

Thank you!!! The villa was lovely - I think it was a fairly good price but I'm not sure how much you'd pay for one over here? I think it cost us £1,600 (UK £££) for a 3-bed villa with pool, 10-days and also our large car was included in that price. They had lots of options - i.e. 1/2 bed 'condos' and smaller & much larger villas too! It was really really easy to get to and from Disney as well!

The house looks very nice.

I send you best wishes and prayers for a smooth pregnancy and a beautiful new addition to your family.

Hi, just found you while reading MeMom. I hope its okay I tag along for the TR. First off, Congratulations on the baby !! :flower3: I just want to say your cats are beautiful. I enjoyed reading your pre trip. (Sorry for your loss.) I wish you a smooth and wonderful pregnancy. I'm sure you will love to bring the new one to WDW someday.:wizard: I never really thought about a villa before, but you have given me a thought for our trip next year. I may split the time aswell with a villa/Disney resort. (Then I could stay longer:lovestruc ) I too like American food shopping. We have alot of the same stuff but I manage to find something new and fun each time. Just a funny note, I work in a retail store here in Canada and we got a whole bunch of new UK stuff. Branston pickle,Spotted dick, Flake chocolate, Curly whirly to name a few. We have quite a few customers who are very excitted about our new items. It brings back fond memories for them. I have a question, why does it say on one of the bars "Not for girls"? Do you know what I'm talking about? (we have alot of Nestle stuff ;) )Take care, I look forward to more pics.

Hiya! Thanks for reading! Thank you also for the Congratulations - yes we definitely will be bringing our little one to WDW at some point. While visiting the GF one night for dinner, hubby fell in love with the resort and promised to bring me back in 4-5 years for a 3-week trip with our little family (I'd hope to have another one by then too!!!).

Branston Pickle is good - its very popular with Cheese sandwiches here! Flake and Curly Wurly are made by Cadbury who you probably know - they are the best - Flake is definitely one of my favourite choc bars!!!

The other choc bar you mention is 'Yorkie' by Nestle. I don't know why it says 'not for girls' - I think maybe because its a really huge chunky bar of chocolate? My husband loves Yorkie and he NEVER gives me a piece because 'its not for girls' - what a meanie!!!

I hope to work on the next installment tomorrow - its a Disney day so hopefully a good one!

Well hubby and I saw my parents on Thursday evening - we told them about my pregnancy and they are thrilled to bits for us. They were truly gutted when we lost our little bean in June so you can imagine how happy they are.

Anyway, the good news, Mum asked how many weeks PG I would be in January '09... we calculated and figured around 25-26 weeks ish. Now I know its safe, but I'd probably be fairly big by then and hubby and I both decided a long-haul flight wouldn't be the best so we said that I would have to skip a trip in January... :sad2:

I did say to Mum (even though in my head I knew she wouldn't go for it) why don't we go in November? I'll be around 17 weeks, the crowds should be fairly low like in January but we might get to see Christmas Decorations? I said its just as cheap as January as well... she didn't discount it straight away but said she was worried about leaving my Dad to cope with their training business (its a busy time of year due to exams)... so I asked Dad and he said YES!!! He didn't mind at all - we all joked about how Mum doesn't work a lot anyway so he wouldn't notice (its a bit mean sounding I know, but a silly family joke!!!).

So Mum asked me to look at prices, flights etc. and of course the minute I arrived home I had priced up a 1 week stay!

Its pretty much decided, we just need to take the plunge and book. I think we're going to fly on 15 Nov, for 7-nights and stay at the AKL again. Mum thinks we should forgoe the Savannah View this time as we're unlikely to see any new varieties of animals compared to our stay in June / July.

I can't believe it! I might be going to Disney again in 90days or so time!!!!! I'm a bit nervous about the pregnancy part of it, but at least it won't be scorching hot and my Mum loves taking things easy anyway so we don't need to do any of the 'commando' style park touring (well maybe we'll make an exception for Toy Story Mania!).

Keep everything crossed that things go to plan and we will be booked to go very soon! I will start a new pre-trip report too I think!
