BIG Blisters & Not Much Disney (Sadly!)

Hi All

As we MC'd in June, we decided to book an extra 'early reassurance' scan at 7+4 weeks. I had my scan yesterday and it went well - we saw a very strong heartbeat! :yay:

Sadly, the little bean was hiding in the bottom right corner of his sac so we don't have any good pictures of him (even though he's only 11mm long!). I've also got a tummy on me, which apparantely doesn't help with seeing things clearly!

The best picture we have is posted below... near the dotted line you can just about make out a little shape, well that is him! :woohoo: can you see him??? tee hee, probably not!

I'm going to ring my Dr / Midwife later today to check he is OK in that position, but the sonographer said as we saw a heartbeat, everything looks OK to her.

We have named him Angus Bean as we think he was conceived during a weekend away in Scotland!!!

Beautiful pictures - all of them! The Grand Floridian is just a beautiful place. Your EWP pictures came out good. I can never get really clear pictures of that. I'll try again next summer.

The gator pictures are awesome, too!

Good luck on everything with the baby! Little Angus is joining a wonderful family! I have only known one Angus personally, and it was a little boy I had in after-school care. He was tall and thin and played soccer, and he was very, very smart! His dad was a doctor, and I figure he will also be a doctor someday.

I think hubby just rested the camera on the bannister of the balcony around Narcoosee's so it was extra steady when he took the piccies! The GF was lovely - I really would love to stay there. I'm sure one day I will!!!

Thanks again for the best wishes for little baby!!!

Thanks for sharing all your pictures and report! Congrats and good luck with your baby! :goodvibes

Have a great trip in Nov! :thumbsup2

Glad to know Angus bean is fine. I must tell you I quickly passed by the SNAKE pics. I am terrified of them, so I could NEVER think of holding one.:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Gators don't bother me. I love, love the Super Wal Mart. Its my first stop when I get to Orlando. I pick up some cheap Tshirts, towels, toys etc. and food. Can't forget my Hawiian punch and Chex Mix. Two of my USA favorites. Oh and Gummi bears in the Gold bag, I think they are european? Great pics of Grand Floridian. I only can dream to stay there. Take care of the little bean.;)

Thanks very much - I'm very slow in getting the trip report done and it seems to be very long with huge pictures!!!

Thanks for the baby wishes too, we just can't wait to be parents!

I neither like or dislike snakes, I'm kind of indifferent if that makes sense! Unless they are very dangerous and deadly snakes of course!

The Wal Mart was FAB! It was HUGE and I wished we hadn't spent so long looking for the mobile phones that didn't really work - there was so much to look at in there!!!

Are they Haribo Gold Bears? I'm not sure where they are from - are they not widely available in American then? My big American love in cupcakes, they are just wonderful. I have tried hard to make some myself, I'll try and find some piccies to post of them!

Little bean is being well looked after - by his Daddy!!! He'll do anything at the moment!!! :rotfl:

Thanks for keeping reading!

Yes they are Haribo. Thanks for helping me to remember the name. Gummi bears are easy to find but not that brand. I wanted to ask you if you are affected by the travel company that went down in the UK? I hope not. I heard on the DIS about alot of UK travellers have lost all the money paid & reservations. I feel sorry for anyone that is affected, isn't there anything they can do? Glad to hear Daddy is taking care of you and Angus bean.

No we've not been affected thanks goodness. I think the company you mean is XL? I don't really know very much about it! We are flying with Virgin Atlantic, so hopefully we won't have any problems.
I think if people paid on a credit card, they have some security and also apparantely, if they have booked a full package including flights and hotels and transfers etc. they might be ok - I think its people who have booked a flight only who are suffering.
Its such a shame, you're looking forward to the most magical holiday and this happens :sad2:

Thanks for the great trip report. I can't see your pics at work, so I am looking forward to getting home this evening to see them. Especially Gatorland - I have never been there!

Keep the updates coming!

This morning we slept in a little later, but we still managed to wake up early enough to get to Universal Studios for 15-mins past the opening time! Hurrah!

As normal, hubby and Dad had their morning swim whilst Mum and I prepared breakfast, I had pop-tarts today, a yummy apple and cinnamon flavour!!! Lucky Americans, you get too many yummy goodies!!! :thumbsup2

Remember in my last update I told you about some sour sweeties that we had tried the night before whilst we were out with Fiona and Andy? Well I couldn’t resist bringing one home for Dad to try - he can barely get down a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice without pulling some of the funniest faces ever! So with a sour sweet (which even I couldn’t cope with), we were in for some laughs...

Sorry about the creamy face, he had just covered himself in sun protection cream!!!

At about 8.15am we finally got on our way to Universal Studios, we had some Mummy to wake!!!

We finally parked (we were lazy and paid for preferred parking - you might not know how long that walk is so believe me when I say it’s worth it!!! I was desperate to get straight over to the Mummy but everyone else wanted to go slowly and take a few pictures!

290.jpg

292.jpg

Although the park had been opened, the queues to get through the ticket barriers were huge. Mum and Dad got in line whilst Rich and I quickly nipped to the electronic ticket booth’s to pick up our tickets that we reserved online (using the deal we found on www.wdwinfo.com / Dreams Unlimited!). We joined the Worms in the queue and as they were doing finger-printing it took AGES to get through! But we eventually made it and, after a stop at the restrooms, we FINALLY made it over to the Mummy!!!

All morning we had been trying to persuade Mum to come on the ride... I don’t remember it being THAT bad and we appeared to do a good job of talking her into it... when she saw that the wait time was only 5-mins, she was totally convinced (waiting doesn’t do her nerves any good!) and she came with us. Oh my god I felt SO guilty that I had dragged my poor Mum on this ride!!! For someone whose thrill limit is Big Thunder Mountain, she had a rough ride! I honestly can’t remember the ride being like it was, for me and hubby, it was FANTASTIC, we loved it and had a ball, but poor little Mum! Bless her! Her face when she came off the ride was a picture (but my Dad has those on this camera!), she was a bit “upset” (ok sort of an understatement!!!) with us for talking her into it and playing it down but she admitted later she had fun doing it, although she’d never do it again. We decided to buy the picture, just as an everlasting reminder that she rode it! Afterwards, she went with Dad to sit down and recover and hubby and I decided to ride again, as the wait was still really really short.

Next up, we decided for something fun and a lot more relaxing - Mum’s favourite at Universal - Shrek!

Some pictures whilst we were in the queue...

295.jpg

296.jpg

298.jpg

299.jpg

One thing that irritated me a LOT about Shrek, was people’s inability to ‘move down the whole row’ - the show actually got delayed by 10-mins (they announced that they are on strict turnaround times with getting people out and in of the theatre) because numerous amounts of rude and ignorant people decided to park their bums in the middle of a row. These shows get filled to capacity because they’re so popular and so chaos was caused when nearly a hundred or so people couldn’t get to a seat because so many people had blocked up the row. It REALLY got on my nerves!!! Anyway, back to the ride! I’d forgotten how much fun Shrek was, but oh my do they jiggle you around a lot in there!!!

After Shrek, we had another restroom break and decided to head the opposite way in the park to how we have always gone before. I had in my head the new Simpsons ride...!!!

On the way, ET had a very short wait and we do love the ET ride so it made sense to ride it as we were there. We stopped for an ice cream too, yummy!
If anyone has ridden ET you will know that at the start, they take your name and give you a little card with a barcode on it. Towards the end of the ride, ET says “Goodbye (name)” to all riders - so “Goodbye Julie”, “Goodbye Richard”... of course my hubby and Dad decided to be silly and give fake names (which I am sure they get a LOT!). Hubby called himself Boris (after the new London Mayor) and my Dad called himself Grumpy, after the Dwarf! But also, ‘cos he is very grumpy!!!

The ride was great as always and we really enjoyed it, it seems to be losing popularity so I wonder how much longer it will be there for... it would be a real shame to see it go, perhaps they could update it?

After riding ET, we went over to the new Simpsons ride! I was looking forward to this a lot, but also very sad because it meant that one of my most favourite theme park rides ever was no longer there... Back to the Future.

We were very surprised to see the queue was only 15-mins wait, it’s still a relatively new ride, so you would expect it to be much busier (it was around 11am).

A few pictures of the outside...

300.jpg

301.jpg

The ride is set up exactly the same as Back to the Future, except of course they have changed the theming etc. etc. There is a short preview film which is shown in little rooms before you enter the main ride area. There are 8 people in total in each ride area / car. The ride is based on a theme park rollercoaster designed by Krusty the Clown but a ‘baddie’ gets hold of the electronics (I think!) and screws with the ride making the rollercoaster, well, not what it should be!!! The ride takes places in a ‘rollercoaster car’ and is lifted up into this huge room in front of a massive circular screen. It’s basically a simulator ride!

Anyway, as much as I missed riding Back to the Future, I was very impressed with the Simpsons, it was good fun and great to experience a new ride!
After riding, we decided to have lunch. I think the place (a CS restaurant) is called the Film Institute or something... there was a lot of choice. Hubby and I had pasta (mine with chicken, his plain with breadsticks) and the Worms had Chinese (Mum Sweet & Sour Chicken, Dad Beef with peppers etc.) - the food was really delicious, I’d definitely recommend it! Sorry no food porn!

Next we were ready for another ride! It was time for Men in Black (oh, after another restroom break!). This is a great ride, very much like Buzz Lightyear except you are in a bigger vehicle and can compete against another car riding opposite you. We waited quite a while, but not too long, and it’s definitely worth it!!! I scored REALLY high on this, about 74,000 points, it was because I kept hitting the target on the vehicle opposite us and making them spin around, I kept getting loads of points! Hubby was very disappointed I beat him, he hates losing!

It was about 1.25pm and as we started walking towards “Amity Island”, we saw that there was a 1.30pm showing of Fear Factor Live! A sit down after a packed morning was just what we needed, but I really wish I’d chosen something different!!! Have you SEEN this show? It’s horrid!!!

After the show, I urged the Worms and hubby to get a move on, I wanted to get to Jaws but I feared the other thousands of people in the show were thinking the same thing! We managed to squeeze in a quick toilet stop and joined the queue for Jaws. I think the wait was about 20-mins but the line did move continually. It’s a great ride, but I got really really wet, I can never remember getting wet on that ride before! My nice light grey shorts went to a charcoal grey instantly, ick!!!

Next we carried on around the park and decided to try out the updated ‘Earthquake’ ride, now re-named ‘Disaster’. It was a similar concept, but some things had been changed. We enjoyed it, but there are much better rides!

Some piccies from the queue…

After Disaster, we thought a refreshment break was in order, it had been a while since lunch and was going to be another few hours before dinner. We stopped at a little bakery and ordered drinks and cakes! The rest was good and we reflected for a while on what we had done so far. We had seen a lot already and done pretty much all of the major rides we wanted to do. Hubby and I even got excited that there might be a bit of time to ride the Mummy once more! (But that didn’t happen, when we eventually arrived, the wait was up to 90-mins!!!)

Moving on, we stopped to take a few more piccies…

The next ride we wanted to do was Twister, based on the popular movie! The ride (well I suppose its more of a show) hasn’t changed in the years and years we’ve been visiting Universal Studios but it’s a traditional favourite, thankfully the wait times seem to have reduced dramatically over the last 4 years since we were here last.

After Twister, we agreed that we had seen everything we wanted to see and reviewed our guide map once again. We realised we had missed Terminator 2:3D! It’s not one of my favourites, and I’d have happily skipped it, but we still had time before our dinner reservation and Dad really wanted to do it.

On the way to Terminator 2:3D…

331.jpg

332.jpg

We got there and had just literally missed a showing (they are every half hour), but we went inside and waited anyway, it was lovely and cool in there.
We finally moved into the pre-show (which felt like it went on forever!) and someone around us decided they would share their ‘bottom burps’ with us… eeeeewwww!!!  - we were very relieved when it was time to enter the main show!!!

After Terminator 2:3D, we had about 45-mins to kill before our dinner reservation at ‘Margaritaville’… so what did we do? Hit the shops of course!!!

333.jpg

There is a big Universal Studios store right near the main entrance so we agreed to split up from the Worms for half an hour so we could all have a decent look around.

Dr Suess seems to be a very big thing in America and because of the themed land in ‘Islands of Adventure’ there was a lot of Dr Suess merchandise. I tried to get everyone to buy ‘Thing 1’ (and 2, 3, and 4) matching tee-shirts but they weren’t interested! Instead, hubby and I settled on buying a ‘Thing 1’ baby-gro for the baby (at the time) we hoped to conceive in the near future. I’m not sure what the American view is, but in England, there is a big thing around NOT buying anything for the baby until you’ve had your 12-week scan and got past the first trimester. (do you do that over there?) Anyway, I know many people might not agree, but it was something we really wanted to do. Now we do have a baby on the way, we are looking forward to the time when he / she is able to wear it.

Back to the shopping… I bought two ‘Thing 1’ golf balls as fun gifts for my brother and his wife. I also tried to find a Universal Studios PIN for my (slowly) growing collection but didn’t see any I liked (I knew we were coming back to Islands of Adventure in a few days so thought I could look again over there).

We met up with the Worms and made our way out of the park, oh after yet ANOTHER toilet break (not sure what was going on with toilet breaks today!!!). We made our way straight to City Walk (similar to Downtown Disney, although much smaller) and checked in at Margaritaville. Our reservation was for 6pm and we were slightly earlier but they seated us straight away.

Piccies from inside…

The green thing is a big ‘fake’ volcano of Margarita… I was duped into believing it was real Margarita!!!

335.jpg

Our server was really friendly and shared with us her thoughts on the menu’s etc. We shared a HUGE plate of Nacho’s between us to begin with, they were just SO yummy! For our main course, hubby got Cajun Salmon (can’t remember what it came with but he loved it). Mum got a chicken sandwich and said that was very good too. I can’t remember what Dad got, it was either ribs or Jambalaya! But he enjoyed his too.

I really love fish and there was some sort of fish fajitas on the menu. I did see the word ‘spicy’ in the description, but when I asked the waitress how spicy, she said ‘oh not at all’. Of course my dinner came and I couldn’t eat a bite because it was too spicy for me :sad2: . I seriously can’t express how disappointed I was! I was SO looking forward to this dinner and it was totally ruined for me. We couldn’t get our servers (or any server for that matter!) attention and when she finally came by, I explained I couldn’t eat it and she offered to bring me something else. But by that point, everyone had just about finished their main meals and I really didn’t want to have to wait for something else to cook and then eat alone. This was one of the meals I was looking forward to the most in the whole trip and I left feeling really miserable - and very hungry too!!! Hubby cheered me up on the way out by treating me to some Margaritaville Margarita Mix!

On the way out, I had remembered about the Fossil store from 4-years ago. I cheered up even more as I had wanted to look for a new watch and possibly a leather handbag.

It didn’t take me long to find a watch I wanted, although I was torn between two (at the time, they were SO cheap, everyone was trying to get me to buy both! But who needs two watches right?!). One had a pink face but no sparkle, the other had sparkle and a white face. I knew I wanted sparkle so that is the one I chose, its lovely and I’m so pleased with it! I eventually found a leather handbag I liked and was just about to get my credit card out when hubby said he would treat me - he’s a good ‘un isn’t he!!!

Whilst I was taking my time to choose a bag, my Dad had chosen a watch he liked, so he brought one too!

After leaving the store with lighter wallets, we nipped into Cinnabon to get me a cake to take home (remember I was still hungry!) and eventually made our way out of Universal. On the way home, the boys wanted to stop at a liquor store and pick up some tequila to go with my Margarita Mix, but we couldn’t find one, so headed straight back to the villa.

We made it back in good time, so the boys, once again, got on their swimmers and went for a dip in the pool. Mum and I made a few snacks (mainly for me!) and sat with them dangling our feet in the pool.

It had been a great day, but a very busy one! We made it into bed and had a lovely lovely sleep!

Coming next… it’s the Fourth of July!!!

Thanks for the great trip report. I can't see your pics at work, so I am looking forward to getting home this evening to see them. Especially Gatorland - I have never been there!

Keep the updates coming!

Gatorland is fun for a one time trip, but it doesn't take long and isn't THAT exciting! :rotfl: But we had memories from our first ever trip to Orlando, years and years ago, and we thought hubby would enjoy the crocs / gators!!!

They are actually pretty widely available in the US. My DH loves gummi bears! :goodvibes

Doesn't everyone love gummi bears!!! mmmmm :rotfl:

It looks like your mom is still smiling, even after her wild ride!

As far as baby rules, I'm sure some people have the superstition of not buying things until a certain point, but I think most just go ahead and start making plans as soon as they know there is a baby coming. I'm looking forward to seeing your new little one, and I know that going to Disney World, Universal, or anywhere else is now going to be so much more exciting!

It has been a very long time since we've been to Universal. Trent gave a fake name on ET, too. He gave the name of his favorite basketball player at the time, so whenever we think of our Universal trip, that's the first memory that comes to mind. We liked Back to the Future, too. The boys liked the cars at the 50's restaurant. Other than those things, Jaws, and Earthquake, I don't recall a lot.

We toss around going over to Universal for a day on one of our Disney trips, but then it's hard to add the money on for a day like that when Disney is all paid up. I think Trent, Kristi, and Drew will definitely make it over there on a future trip. Jill and I would be more likely to go to SeaWorld for a day, and that will happen eventually, too. It's just that we're too cheap to add on the extra when we have our APs for Disney World. Brooklynn will like SeaWorld, though, so I'm pretty sure we will take her there within the next couple of years.

bottom burps....:rotfl2: I have never heard it called that....that is too funny!!

That's a new one for me, too! :lmao:

By the way - No Flames please,:rolleyes1 but you can see that the reason we are all so overweight in America is because we have TOO many selections of food, IMO. A Little less choice might be helpful, if you ask me....but I am glad you are enjoying our method of overconsuming!

BTW - Your cats are gorgeous! Really, really, really pretty!

If I had my way, I'd have a 3 week trip to Orlando and squeeze in 2 days for Universal and Islands of Adventure (IOA) and 1 day for Sea World. I love thrill rides (well most of them!) and (sorry!) but IOA do have some great ones!!! Hubby agrees tho, that the next time we come, we'll have a little one with us so things like Universal and IOA will just be silly to do - there is very little young children can ride there in my opinion! So mainly it'd be 3 weeks of Disney, that's heaven!!!

Brooklynn will LOVE Sea World I am sure... just make sure she doesn't get you sitting in the soak sections of the big shows!!!

bottom burps....:rotfl2: I have never heard it called that....that is too funny!!

I was showing you that I am a lovely polite English girl :rotfl:
We have ruder words for them, honest!!!

That's a new one for me, too! :lmao:

I can see your point, definitely! But I am just SO jealous of your foodie choices! To be honest, I'm going to sound like a 'brown noser' here, but I love the American way of life, I really feel it would suit me, hubby does too! I so hope, one day, he can get a transfer to the Nestle in America (we think its in St Louis? but I don't know where that is in relation to Orlando!) then I can enjoy the American life for a good while!!! I've visited San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas before - all amazing places. I really want to visit Alabama, Seattle, Chicago (but in Winter :) ), Boston and Los Angeles - I know, I know, I've chosen all 'typical' tourist places!

My cats are gorgeous aren't they!
We adore them SO much. They are Birman's and called Hugo (the older looking boy, more creamy in colour) and Sassy (younger, more kitten like and much darker in colour).

I don't love them at the moment - they have done a stinker  in their litter tray (they are indoor cats) and hubby isn't home yet to clean it! I can't because of the baby!!!

Thank you everyone for reading!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you weren't affected by the UK travel company fiasco. Trips still on, great news.
I went to Universal last in 2004. It was VERY HOT and RAINY. We didn't do too much, left in the afternoon. We saw T:2, Back to the Future, Jaws and Shrek (3hrs we waited for this). If my kids weren't such fans of that movie I would have skipped it. Crazy, I know. My DS spent about a 1/2 hour winning my DD all of the Shrek characters at the game area. He won Shrek, Fiona, Puss, Donkey. We purchased Dragon and Gingerbread. She was so thrilled, she still plays with them. We also have the cutest pic of her with Barney, she was 4 and he was so tall compared to her. She now can't believe she liked Barney, but I have proof. The funniest thing she did was call a cast member in costume "Woody Pecker" :rotfl2: Can I say that on here? Out of the mouths of babes. Too funny.
I went to Margarittaville at Myrtle Beach, SC this year. My DS ordered the nachos and they were HUGE. They must have been a foot tall. We also made him wear the balloon hat, until he became too cool and took it off. Good times. I should have tried the margaritas, next time. I want to go to Sea World too, but I'm also on a tight buget. ;)

Hi All

Sorry I've not been around very much lately! Its been busy at home but we did manage to find time for another baby scan yesterday... the little bean is doing well, growing well and his heart is beating like a trooper!

Attached are two more pictures:
