Big Announcement????

This whole hype was as big of a let down as the hype was with Geraldo Rivera and the opening of Al Capones vault... A whole lot of hype for absolutely nothing. I'm glad I was not too excited with anticipation, but still, it's an hour of my life I will never get back again. :rotfl2:

The two week period that they picked is low attendance (I know because my vacation ends on Feb. 28 and the crowds are minimal for the last couple of days). They are looking to jack attendance then, not to give loyal customers who are going to go anyway during a busy period a break. While I love WDW, it is number one about the business and the bottom line to the Disney company.

But what about the other low attendance times? :confused3

Also the hype did not equal what was announced, this is just one big publicly stunt.

DVC members always get screwed by not being able to take advantage of promotions... they get a free night... we have to use all our points... yea - that's fair. :confused3

DVC members do NOT get screwed. You do not HAVE to be a member.
You are just as eligible for the promotion as is any other human being. If you call, you too can book it.

I am amazed by all the people who feel personally "Screwed". Yes the announcement was over hyped. But you are not entitled to something special that works perfectly just for you.

Just my opinion

Oddly, there don't seem to be ANY comments on the blog currently (as of 8:11am Jan 1). I wonder if they've all been SO negative they've been removed? Or maybe they just are waiting for approval.

ETA...nevermind. Looks like there's little in the way of comments on any of the blog posts.

They are only allowing the positive posts, mine was excluded. I wasn't negative, I had just asked several questions about it. So if your comments are not glowing about the promotion, it's not getting posted.

Yes - we CHOSE to be DVC members and pay handsomely for that choice. That's why it's frustrating if I CHOOSE to use the dining plan, I pay for it when others get it for free. I understand I get to stay at beautiful resorts not 'paying' the full price too. But I do think, as a perk for all we paid for our membership and maintenance, there should at least be a discount offered for dining. Maybe the offer of less points on my 4th night stay? Why should I pay cash for an offer when that was why I bought into DVC?

Kind of makes me feel as a DVC member sometimes like they've got my money and they're done with me.

And as far as the promotion - it's really only a two week event to fill the rooms at a low time. Smart move for Disney but not for regular folks looking for something at other times of the year.

Just saying...

Is the promotion really that terrible?

I agree that I am not that impressed and that I am personally disappointed, but that is beside the point.

Their promotion is meant to enhance their profile, excitement for Disney, and business (not nec. business during the promotion)

Disney most likely does not have people on this site in mind. Disboards posters are not normal people, in that most people are not Disney fans as we are. We may be 1% of the population that attends Disney.

Disney is not focused on the hyper fan, but the casual fan.

You are right that we feel cheated (although, that is unfair to Disney) and you are right that the amount of people who will benefit from this promotion is very limited.

This could fall flat for Disney, but I bet DIsney has taken this into consideration. I bet they are hoping to use this as an avenue of hype for the year. No, many families could not get a vacation ready to go in just 2 months. However, if this excitment gets people to go at anytime, then its a success.

So, for those free vacations up to win, all people really need is hire car (if they're not driving down themselves) and some universal tickets! ;)

Lets face it, disney is trying to screw over guests with this promotion - and I hope it bites disney back and people use this time in orlando to go to IOA instead!

I am really geting tired of the NEGATIVE  responses to everything Disney does as a promotion. It is not just one message board. Everyone seems to think every give-away/promotion is no good. Every upgrade is no good.

When I heard the announcement I figured "big deal one free park pass added to the end is worth about $8"

Now I find Disney is giving away a free night stay on a 3 night trip with a ticket to the park. Do the math. If you stay three days the park ticket is still worth over $40 a person and the room could be $150 to $350. If you multiply that by over 50,000 people staying in the parks for a week you talking about a $9 million dollar give away. How many companies are giving away $9 millon and having everyone say its not enough?

Disney Exceeded my expectations on this promo. I know its only for a short window but it is still a big give away.

Personally I love the contest. It includes airfare for people a certain distance away (like us). A choice of WDW or DL, $1,000 gift card (we'd use this for food), $500 DTD shopping spree, tour value of $500, 5-day park hopper tickets.

IF our family won a trip (crossing my fingers and praying) we would choose DL as we'll never get to go there otherwise.

someone posted a few pages ago that they had done the maths and it worked out more expensive if they took up the offer. They didnt really explaiin the details though.

So, if that is the case, the negative comments are deserved because Disney is trying to rip off its potential guests. Plus thats before you consider the main issue here - the massive hype for nothing. Again.

And don't forget... once you're in Disney you'll be spending money on food and souveniers!

It's a good deal for some people - just not the masses.

Any contest to win a Disney trip - is a good one! :goodvibes

but if you were going anyway (like this other person was) then its no extra money on food or sourveniers. Plus, people may choose to spend that extra day at Universal ;)

I'm going during the promotional time and it would cost me more money to switch to new buy 3 get one free deal. I saved over $500 with the 30% promotion they have, with the new deal it would be around $200. No thank you. I knew they were overhyping it so I didn't even bother to watch. I knew I could come here and find out.

According to the contest rules, the total estimated retail value of the trips being given away is $378,000. That is not peanuts. And very few folks here are even discussing the give away aspect of the announcement.

Just saying...

This announcement is LAME!! And it bums me out cause now it will probably jack up park attendance during the days leading up to it!! Our trip end Feb. 29!! I really hope not too many people take advantage, I was really really hoping to have some quiet days in the parks since we always traditionally travel in the summer, I wanted to experience what off-season really is!! This totally bums me out and I don't like it!!

Honestly the contest is really only super exciting if you're one of the 60 people who win (or their family). :confused3

OK here is my math. See if this makes sense.

If a room is $250 a night and you stay three nights with three day tickets for a family of four the cost is:
$250 x 3 nights
$232 for a three day adult
$214 for a three day child

total of $1642 for room and tickets for a family of four with 2 adults and 2 kids.

Take the 30% room discount and you save $225 for a total cost of $1417.

Ok now loose the room discount and take the free day.
The room is $250 and the park tickets for the third day is $60 Adult and $56 Kid so the free day saves you $482! How is that a ripoff?

If the naysayers would take off their DIS-colored glasses for a moment and look at it from the point of view as the typical once/twice in a lifetime visitor, I'm sure this will be a very successful promotion for Disney.

As a PP said earlier, we're not ENTITLED to any promotion so just be thankful for whatever comes our way. Some are good some aren't. My family and I took two trips to WDW in 2011 using "good" promos. If I can't get a good promo in 2012 we'll be going elsewhere. It's as simple as that. Now pull up your panties and get over it. :confused3

I realize that the announcement was a let down to majority of DIS followers. But to the average person, who doesn't know the ins & outs of Disney discounts (past & current), it probably is exciting to them if they've been considering a vacation around that time.

I got lucky that I already had a vacation booked during that time, so I called to have my ressie modified. Our vacation fell during a blackout period for the free dining, so I was bummed about not having any discount. Since we're staying at POFQ, the new offer only applied to Garden View rooms. So, I saved a little over $100 and got a room upgrade. At the end of the day, not too shabby.

The biggest part of the promo that worries me is the 24hr MK thing. We were going to MK that day already. Now, I'm wondering if it will affect the previously predicted low crowds. Oh well, I'll just be happy to be at Disney finally! :yay:
