Biergarten - Like or dislike the food?

If you're a picky eater, the big thing to avoid there is sauerbraten. It looks like roast beef, but it's been marinated in vinegar, and can trick you if you don't know what it is.

The rest of the food there is pretty tame, it often is just normal stuff with a german name. Schnitzel is just a breaded pork chop, for example, and spaetzle is a plain pasta that is great with either cheese sauce or gravy. There's a few good wikipedia articles that can "translate" some of the foods for you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:German_cuisine - you may find that helpful 'cause the names don't often give you any idea of what it might taste like, or even what it contains. Keep in mind, though, that the food is still a bit Disney-fied...it's not as german as what you'd get in Germany or at a good german restaurant outside of Disney.

My DH and I really like it, as we do all the food at Biergarten, but then again his dad's german, so he's eaten that kind of thing a lot over the years. It's probably our favourite restaurant at Epcot, but don't tell anyone how good it is...we like being able to get ADR's easily... :cool1:

Love the Biergarten - food and all. I don't eat sausages but there is still plenty for me to enjoy. Schnitzel is great - not much different than fried chicken or fried pork depending on the eat they are using. Don't let the idea of German food scare you off - thanks to all the German immigrants to the US during the 19th Century the influence of German food is very strong in the US, especially in the South. You can't wave a stick at a recipe book without hitting something that wasn't originally Irish or German, probably. There is a great variety of options at the Biergarten - most of it on the "hearty" side of things, and a mixture of fried and baked items, hot and cold, and great dessert options. I'd definitely recommend everyone give it a try at least once! :)

Another one in the plus column. We loved the Biergarten. With a wide range of eaters, we all found plenty to eat and enjoy. Although we would like to sample other restaurants on our next trip, we will be hard pressed not to go back to Biergarten again.

I sampled everything...and loved it all!

i am a picky eater -- but we all really enjoyed this place-- loved the pretzel bread, and the show, the atomsphere was so nice-- our whole group got to sit at the same table because there were 7 of us-- give it a try i think you will enjoy it:)

I didn't really like it, but it was definitely a matter of personal taste rather than bad food. I just don't care for most German food. That said, the rest of my family enjoyed it and if one of them really wanted to go back I would.

I have had dinner at Biergarten twice. It's a good value and a fun place to eat. Having said that, I'm not a big enough fan of German food to return for a 3rd visit. I'd much rather eat at Chefs de France or Le Cellier.

My mother-in-law's family is Swedish, so she and my DH LOVE Akershus. I personally don't care for 10 varieties of pickled herring! :teeth: I DO love the schoolbread at the bakery in Norway. :)
