Bibbidi-Bobbidi-BOO and a few Disney Dresses too!~ A Sept ’13 TR

And it was on to day #2...

Thursday, September 26th

I woke up that morning at 5:30. I NEVER wake up that early! Even on days that I work, my alarm is set for 5:35 and then I always hit the snooze at least once. I guess that I was too excited to sleep.

I decided to do a foot soak in the tub and jot down some trip notes from the day before, before hopping in the shower.

Johnsons Foot Soap was a lifesaver on this trip

Thanks Danimaroo for the recommendation! (If I'm remembering right???)

We were all up and dressed and on our way over to the TTC by 7:15. We were heading to our second park of the trip... EPCOT, Yay!!! We had decided to bring both double strollers along with us knowing that we could take the monorail and wouldn't have to deal with any buses. Whoo hoo! But ...wouldn't ya know ....when we arrived at the TTC, the Epcot monorail was down. We were told that it may be another 25 minutes before it was up and running but that they would be sending a bus right over to pick up those of us who had early breakfast reservations. Ahh! We didn't want to have to take both strollers on a bus. But oh well, we would make it work... we had an 8am ADR to get to! So we took a few pics while we waited.

Mushu!

And within a few minutes .. the bus was there and we were on our way. We only had the girls with us that morning since Donovan had spent the night with my mom at AOA. But even so, getting 3 kids and 2 double strollers folded up and onto the bus was definitely a pain.

We found my mom and Donovan waiting for us by the bag check. Then there was a short line for a CM that was checking everyone's breakfast reservations. We didn't have to wait long and before we knew it we were swiping our Magicbands.

Wait for it...

Green!!

We had to take advantage of the nearly empty park, so we stopped for a few pics before heading over to Norway.

We checked in right on time for our reservation for the Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. We had about a 10 minute wait before they called our name.

We then waited in line for our Photopass photo. We couldn't see which princess was up ahead so I sent Donovan up to sneak a peek. He came back and told us that it was Belle. So I had the girls find a Belle page in their autograph books. My girls were going to meet their first Disney Princess!! princess: I was SO excited to see how they were going to react!

I think Bronwyn was the most surprised at being in the presence of royalty... or maybe she was just in awe of the beautiful gown that Belle was wearing. I know I was!!

The girls got Belles autograph, a hug, then we took a couple pics and were led to our table inside the medieval-themed castle.

Our server that morning was Knut. He took our drink order, explained that each princess would make their way to our table and that we could help ourselves to the koltbordt -or "cold table." He also said that he would be bringing a platter of the hot foods, that would be served family style, to our table.

Before we could make it up to the buffet, they were announcing the Princess Processional all of the children in the restaurant were invited to join in on the parade around the room. Jorie was the only one who wanted to join in. It lasted a few minutes while they sang a song. Very cute!

We then made our way up to the buffet. There were fresh fruits, fish & cheeses, yogurt, and pastries. Everything was tasty, although I have noted that the plain yogurt was sour and the kids wouldn't eat it.

Cinderella arrived shortly after we returned to our table but she didn't hang around long. She must have known that we would be meeting up with her again later in the trip.

Aurora came up to us next. She loved that Bronwyn had a matching dress to hers. (And I could kick myself now for not getting her out of the highchair and taking their picture together!) She was very talkative to the girls, although she was so softspoken I couldn't hear what she was saying to them.

Donovan had little interest in the princesses, which I knew. Before breakfast, we had given him a World Showcase Passport. (I had thought ahead and had a friend pick it up for me on her trip a few months earlier.) So he and my mom were keeping busy putting all of the stickers in it.

The last princess to our table was Ariel. And boy did they save the best for last. She was just adorable. Such a cute, bubbly personality. And she spent a lot of time chatting with the kids. Even Donovan perked up and joined in on the conversation. Ariel kept calling him "Guppy" and he was definitely blushing a little.

I LOVE her new dress but I do miss her having a starfish in her hair!
There's a peek at her beautiful shoes too. She was showing them to a group of girls at the table next to us. So pretty!

I just love Ariel! And she is definitely a favorite of all my girls too.

At some point while we were busy meeting the princesses, the platter of hot foods had been brought to our table. Once all of the princesses had been around ...and I no longer had to worry about autograph books & picture-taking, I felt like I could finally sit down and eat.

The platter of hot foods included: scrambled eggs, cheesy potatoes, bacon, and sausage. Oh my, those cheesy potatoes were yummy! I definitely had a second helping of them... maybe even a third. Everything was tasty... well except for the coffee. The coffee was just plain terrible.

It was then time for the Princess parade again... so that was our cue to pay our bill and skedaddle out of there.

Overall we had a nice experience at Akershus. The best part...we had met 4 princesses, all in one spot, before the park even opened!

As we were leaving the restaurant, people were just starting to enter the park. We headed back to Future World.

Our first stop? Soarin!! We had a 9-10am FP+. Whoo hoo!

As we were walking toward The Land, we thought that we may be feeling some raindrops. And as we got closer, we decided that they definitely were raindrops! We hurried up to the building and were then told by a CM that we would need to park our strollers... outside.. at the bottom of the hill. Ugh! OK, so my mom stayed with the kids while Joe and I parked the strollers and dug out the rain covers to cover them with. So we went back up the hill and then down the steps once inside.

Wow, I was surprised to see that The Land attractions and dining we all inside one building! How convenient since it had started raining.

We found the FastPass entrance to Soarin. I was SO excited for this one!!

Now Joe is prone to motionsickness and wasn't sure if he could handle this ride... so he had planned on hanging back with Bronwyn while the rest of us rode.

Isla was right on the verge of being 40 inches tall so we had to double check her height. And she made it, just by a hair! Yaaay!

The CM at the FP entrance must have seen Bronwyn in the stroller and he asked Joe if he wanted a Rider Swap pass. Wow, we didn't know that we could do this with FP+!! Awesome! So of course he took him up on the offer. The CM explained that as soon as Joe wanted to ride (IF he wanted to ride), he and two others could take the pass right to the FP entrance. How nice is that?!

So Donovan, my mom, Jorie, Isla and I all soared across California.

WOW, just WOW!

What an amazing ride. My mom had been on it before, but for the rest of us, it was a first and we LOVED it!! Well except for Isla... she gave it a big thumbs down and opted not to ride it again. Not sure why, she was seated next to me and seemed to be enjoying it! :confused3 But actually that worked out perfectly ~ Donovan & Jorie could ride with Joe- that is, IF he wanted to ride. We found Joe and Bronwyn waiting for us right near the exit. Joe asked how it was and I told him that the actual seats didn't really move, so if he felt sick, he could just close his eyes and probably be fine. So the 3 took off to ride with Joe's Rider Swap pass.

Bronwyn kept us entertained with some dancing (and just plain cuteness) while we waited.

I had checked my messages and noticed another email ALERT from MDE saying that Test Track was temporarily closed, probably because of the rain. BUMMER!! We had a FP+ reservation for it from 10-11 but we now had the option of using the FP on another ride for the rest of the day.

We had Isla & Bronwyn make a pressed penny and that was about the time when the others were coming off of Soarin. And the verdict? Joe LOVED it! And he didn't feel sick on it at all! :yay:

It looked like it was still raining outside so we decided to stay inside the building and head over to Living with the Land. No need to use our "extra" FP+ on this one since it was practically a walk-on.

What a nice relaxing boat ride! During the outdoor part, we noticed that the rain had stopped. And just in time since we needed to trek across the World for our lunch ADR...

Coming up... Via Napoli and we meet a very special teddy

Hi! :wave2: I am really enjoying your trip report. I can't wait to read more. :thumbsup2 Your family is adorable.:)

Those outfits are just adorable. I love what you did there with the casual princess dresses.

Nice update! Another set of adorable outfits! Looks like you had fun at Akershus, and what a nice family picture with Belle! We went to Akershus for dinner in February and really enjoyed it. I think the Princesses take a little more time at each table than they do at CRT where it seems a little rushed.

Haha, I realize the whole Magic Band thing is a huge project with lots of elements and many things people both love and hate. But... I still get ridiculously excited watching the little Mickey readers light up. I am just way too easily amused.

What an adorable family photo with Belle. It's always amazing how dressed up those princesses get that early in the morning.

Oh my goodness, I was just sitting here reading and yelling at the screen. JOE, GO ON SOARIN'!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!! I would have been sad if he skipped it since it's really on of the most amazing experiences anywhere.

Great updates! How did you decide which princesses to dress up as? I've never seen a Jasmine outfit like that and I love it!

Love their outfits for Epcot! That was one of our Epcot days too (and the first day that we saw Tammy and her granddaughter). Avery was wearing her Epcot set with a quick change into her Duffy shirt when we visited with him.

We were in the Land building at the same time. We had 9 am Soaring FP+'s and then grabbed a quick breakfast before my father took Avery on the Behind the Seeds tour. So if you saw a tour group while you were on Living With the Land, that was my little one.

We weren't so lucky with the rain that morning. It was sunny and blue skies when we walked in and by the time I realized it had started raining and made my way back out to the stroller, it was soaked. LOL Luckily, it was so hot that it dried quickly.

Hi! And a warm :welcome: !! So glad you're here!

Those outfits are just adorable. I love what you did there with the casual princess dresses.

Thank you! We were crossing our fingers that maybe Mulan or Jasmine would be at breakfast but no luck. :(

I know! I was pleasantly surprised with Akershus. Except I feel like we were missing a princess... for some reason I was thinking that there would be 4 princesses that visited the table (we only had 3) :confused3 How was the food for dinner?

Oh believe me, I got excited EVERY time they turned green! :rotfl: We actually had a very good experience with our Magic Bands - no complaints here!

I was the same way... after we rode Soarin' I told Joe he HAD to try it!! I'm so glad that he did.

Great updates! How did you decide which princesses to dress up as? I've never seen a Jasmine outfit like that and I love it!

When I was deciding on outfits for each day, those 3 were kind of the "extras" that I had left over at the end... but I thought that they ended up working nicely together! I found the Jasmine set on Etsy. I thought it was so cute and would be cool & comfortable!

You are kidding me!! How did we not run into each other? And yes we most definitely saw a group on the Behind the Seeds tour while we were on Living with the Land... that is too funny!!!

The stroller that we had rented came a rain cover but it did not fit right... so that stroller ended up getting soaked too :sad2: But yes, it was definitely HOT and it dried up while we were in the restaurant for lunch. :thumbsup2

The kiddos had Duffy outfits too... you'll see them in the next update...

I hope your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The girls look ADORABLE in their princess outfits!! It looks like they had a great time at breakfast. That Ariel is gorgeous! Looks just like out of the movie! I too wish they had left the starfish in her hair, it was a pretty touch.

We did, thank you!! I really LOVE Thanksgiving (and Black Friday :goodvibes) and actually it's one of the only holidays that I'm guaranteed not to have to work! I'm a nurse (too!) and I work the weekend program (I only have 4 weekends off a year :crazy2:). So whenever the holiday falls on a weekend, I have to work it. I feel like with working weekends I miss out on a ton, but I never have to work Thanksgiving or Black Friday so I always get to see my family. Yay!

So we had some fun in the Land, now it was time for lunch! Wait... didn't we just finish breakfast?

This was one of the few days that I booked 3 ADRs. I didn't want to feel like all we were doing was eating, but I REALLY wanted to try out Via Napoli and I couldn't seem to fit it in anywhere else in the trip. So ...an 11:30 lunch reservation it was.

We stopped in the restroom for a quick bathroom break and change of clothes. When we got outside, the sun was shining. Whoo hoo! We lucked out because we could tell that it must have rained pretty hard from the huge puddles on top of the stroller's rain covers. Our one stroller stayed dry, the other one not so much. The rain cover that was given to us with the rental was made for another brand and definitely did not fit the stroller. Oh well, we pulled out a poncho to cover up the wet seats and we were off to Italy.

Hello Mary!

By the time we made it over to the Italy pavilion, we were sweating. It was HOT!

On our way, we spotted a Kidcot station and decided to stop in.

The kids had fun chatting with the CM.

She stamped Donovan's passport and wrote "Ciao bello, benvenuto in italia!" and signed it. Then she gave the kids cute cardboard Duffy figures to color. But we couldn't stay since it was time for our lunch reservation. We said grazie and off we went.

Even though none of us were really that hungry, we each ordered a full meal because everything sounded SO good! And then we shared everything which was fun.

Our Appetizers:
Arancini- Fried saffron risotto balls filled with mozzarella and meat ragu
Calamari Fritti- Corn crusted rings served with spicy tomato sauce
Mozzarella Caprese- Vine ripened tomato fresh milk mozzarella

For our Entrees we each picked an individual wood-fired pizza:
Prosciutto e Melone- Fontina, Mozzarella, Pecorino, Prosciutto, Canteloupe
Quattro Stagioni- Eggplant, artichokes, prosciutto, mushrooms
Margherita- Tomato, mozzarella, basil

Our desserts:
Zeppole di Caterina- Ricotta Cheese Fritters, served with whipped cream, chocolate sauce I was most looking forward to these, but eh, they were just okay.
Pistachio Gelato- Soooo good!!
Gelato Frizzante- Ice cream soda Italian style, made with San Pellegrino Aranciata and Vanilla Ice Cream I am not a fan of orange soda but this definitely did not have a strong orange flavor. It was yummy!

Along with dessert, Joe ordered the Tutto Gusto Coffee Porter.

For the kids, they each ordered a fruit cocktail for an appetizer. Then we ordered one of each: Spaghetti e Polpettini (Spaghetti and meatballs), Bocconcini (mozzarella bites) & Pizza Margherita. And they each had an Italian sundae for dessert. Bronwyn was not on the dining plan but was allowed to order a drink, appetizer & dessert.

Like I said, it was a TON of food! But it was all so good, we actually ended up eating most of it! After reading so many rave reviews, Via Napoli definitely lived up to its high expectations. Great service and great food! We'll be back for sure!

Next, we stopped for a quick look at the model train display in the Germany pavilion.

We had a 1:25-2:25 FP+ for Maelstrom. I'm not sure what time it was when we arrived there, if we used this FP+ or if we used the extra one we had from when Test Track was closed.

On our walk over, Bronwyn had fallen asleep in the stroller, so Joe stayed outside with her. I remember mentioning to him that he could stop in Kringla Bakery for some school bread while we were in the ride.

Now Donovan was hesitant to ride. I assured him that it would be a fun boat ride with Vikings... oh yeah I did forget to mention the trolls.

There were definitely some tears on this ride. Not from Jorie or Isla, but from Donovan! He freaked out and pretty much dug his face into my mom the entire ride. He said that it was soooo scary. Although his younger sisters loved it! Who would have thought?

I checked our time and I was thinking that we had time for one very special meet & greet before we had to leave the park. As we walked there, I asked Joe if the bakery had had any school bread. He looked at me like I had two heads. "You were serious? How are you still hungry?!" he said. I was definitely NOT hungry but trying school bread was a MUST! I had wanted him to get it wrapped up and we would save it for later. Oh well :confused3

continued in next post

Yay, it was time to meet Duffy! I had actually been looking forward to this all day! I was so bummed that Bronwyn was still asleep. She loves her stuffed Duffy at home so I know that she would have loved to meet him.

The queue tells the story of how Minnie makes Duffy bear for Mickey to take along with him on his long journeys at sea.

We only waited for a few minutes and then it was our turn to meet the cute & cuddly teddy.

I loved Duffy's reaction!

Such a fun meet & greet!

Looks like Duffy was ready for a break after meeting with us. My kids do tend to wear you out!! :rotfl:
As he walked away, the kids got a kick out of the Mickey head on his butt!

We stopped for some PP pics on the way out of the park. What a great day in Epcot!

Keep Reading, there's more!

We said goodbye to my mom and that we would meet her later for dinner. We took the monorail to the TTC and walked back to the Poly. As we were entering our room, we warned Isla and Donovan to please be quiet since Jorie and Bronwyn had fallen asleep in the stroller. We parked them in the far corner of the room. Well within two minutes, Isla was over at the stroller, pulling back the canopy and waking both of them up. Ugh! Definitely one of the downfalls of sharing one room- with 6 people in the same room there really is NO quiet area. I felt really bad for the people staying in the rooms on either side of us. Although it sounded like they had small kiddos too.

Well since naptime was cut short, we decided to get everyone dressed for dinner and we could head out early.... and just maybe we could take a nice walk along the Boardwalk before dinner.

So we were out of our room and heading to the Poly's bus stop by 3:50. Then we waited ...and waited ...and waited. Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney buses were coming and going, but they were not the bus that we needed. Finally there was a Hollywood Studios bus that pulled up behind two buses that were in the "loading zone." Now THAT was the bus we needed. Yay!

But then it pulled away! It literally waited for like 5 seconds! Ahh! There was another family that was waiting there for the HS bus too and they were NOT happy. They had been waiting even longer than us! We told a CM who was there what had happened and he used his walkie-talkie thingy to find out when another HS bus would be coming. He said that it was at the Contemporary and should be there within 10 minutes. So we waited about another 10 minutes and then loaded onto the bus. Then we waited to stop at the Grand Floridian. There was a long line-up for their bus stop and it seemed to take forever. Then on the way to HS, part of the road was down to only one-lane due to construction. Were we ever going to get there???

We were finally pulling up to Hollywood Studios at 4:50. Well our dinner reservation was for 5:00.... on the Boardwalk!! So much for getting there early.

As we were getting off of the bus, we were watching the boat that we needed to catch pull away! Really, REALLY?!?

Should we wait for the next boat or walk the path? I had no idea which would be quicker. We decided to walk the path. I couldn't see standing around any longer waiting for the next boat. Looking back, we probably would have had better luck taking the monorail over to Epcot and then walking from Epcot to the Boardwalk. Oh well... now we know.

We had only brought one double stroller along with us since we were taking a bus. So what did we do? Loaded all 4 kids into the City Mini and booked it to the boardwalk! Kids- Dont try this at home!

We were practically running. I'm sure anyone who saw us thought that we were crazy!!

We finally made it to KOUZZINA- better late than never! And of course my mom had been there waiting for us. She had gotten a bus from AOA with no issues- figures.

Ah, Kouzzina... another great pick! Reading a ton of DIS dining reviews was really paying off!

Kouzzina is a Greek restaurant by Iron Chef, Cat Cora. Joe is a big Iron Chef fan, so he was really excited to eat here. And boy, we were not disappointed! The food was delicious!

My choices:
Cats Ouzo-tini Absolute Vodka, Metaxa Ouzo, Pineapple juice, fresh lime juice and pomegranate served in a sugar-rimmed martini glass
Crisp Calamari and Lemon- coated in three Flours with Smoked Tomato and Onion Salsa (yes, I did just have calamari for lunch but this just sounded so good- and it WAS!!)
Braised Short Ribs- over Smoked Feta-Mashed Potatoes

Everything was fabulous!

My mom had a Sangria with Spanakopita and the Kouzzina Trio: tasting size portions of Greek-style Lasagna, Char-grilled Lamb Burger, and Cinnamon-stewed Chicken with Orzo - which she really enjoyed.

Joe ordered the Chefs Table tasting menu. A huge five course dinner. (Because we hadnt eaten enough food yet that day :rotfl2:) It was an additional $4.54 to the Deluxe dining plan.

Mezze Pikilia- Goat Cheese Sto Fourno, Lamb Soutzoukakia, Sauteed Shrimp, Spiced Hummus

Soupa kai Salata- white truffle avgolemono, Horiatiki Salata, Dolmades

Palate Refresher

Duo of Signature Piata- Fishermans Stew, Slow Braised Short Ribs, Smoked Feta Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal vegetables

Glyka Pikilia- Mini Budino, Walnut-Pistachio Baklava, Duo of Pagota

OMG, we were in food heaven!!

We were stuffed so we asked for our dessert to go. (And because we had somewhere that we needed to get to!) The kids all got cupcakes, and my mom and I ordered Loukoumades- freshly made Greek Doughnuts drizzled with warm honey and cinnamon.

Bronwyn was getting antsy, so I decided to take her and Isla outside while the others waited for the desserts and the bill. And I may have had an ulterior motive. I knew that the Boardwalk Bakery was right next door! So we popped in to see what kind of goodies I could find.

Oh. My. Yum!!!

I ordered a Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon pie, & a Salted Caramel Ganache, plus an iced coffee to go ....and used a snack credit for each. Awesome!!

I came out of Boardwalk Bakery and the others were still not out of Kouzzina yet. So I walked toward the boat dock and took a few pics. What a pretty area!

We were planning on seeing Fantasmic at HS. I had read that you really needed to line up 60-90 minutes ahead of time to get a seat. And that night's show was at 8pm. I was a little worried about making it back there in time. As I was standing there, the Friendship boat that was docked started pulling away. Ugh, we really should have been on that boat. We were having the worst luck with Disney transportation that day! Of course, as soon as the boat pulled away, everyone came out of the restaurant.

Once again, we were asking- should we wait for the next boat or walk? We decided that Joe would take Donovan and Bronwyn in the stroller and walk the path. My mom and I would wait for the next boat with Jorie & Isla. And then whoever got there first, would grab a spot in line.

Well Joe had beat us by a good 20 minutes and they were seating everyone by the time we got there. He texted me that they were in the Ursula section, Row O. It really wasn't that crowded and we would have had no problems getting a seat if we all had taken the boat. We stopped for a quick bathroom break, and then joined them for the show.

Love, love, LOVE!!! I was in awe! The show was spectacular!!

NEXT

Donovan found a hat that he really like but since it was so early in the trip, he decided that he would pass on picking it as his one souvenir.

After the show was over, we headed for the Hat. I was hoping there would be a PP photographer around, but we didn't see any.

my 3 little villains

Jorie headed back to AOA with my mom for the night. It looks like they had some fun exploring her resort.

We had had another amazing and FULL day!! On the bus from HS back to the Poly, all of the kiddos fell asleep. By the time we made it back to our room, we were all ready for our beds!

Coming up... we head BACK to HS for some Toy Story fun!

You had the CUTEST outfits for the kids! They look so, so adorable.

We've never tried Kouzzina, but it's on the "someday" list. I was really glad to read your positive review!

So happy you enjoyed Via Napoli! It's a definite favorite of ours, and #1 on Bryan's list. Did you loved the risotto balls?

Would you believe in all of our character hunts we've never stopped to meet Duffy? I'm sure that will change if Maddie ever catches on to the fact that a Duffy (and many outfits for said bear) can be purchased. He's likely to become her favorite then :rotfl2:

Poor Donovan! Trolls can be scary! We've never done Malestrom either, so I would have had no idea what to warn DD about. :lmao:

I love Donovan's Fantasmic shirt! It's awesome!

I swear if you miss one bus or have to wait extra long, you are doomed by Disney transportation all day! :rotfl2:
