BFFs Deluxe it Up in WDW! w/ PICS! - Wolfgang Puck Cafe - COMPLETED!! :)

I am in and looking forward to it.

Where did you get your Masters from?

I am from Ohio originally(Toledo), went to OSU from 2004-2008 and then moved to Minneapolis. I miss Columbus sooo much!!

Otterbein University in Westerville. LOVED it there!

Congrats on your Masters! Looking forward to your reviews, looks like an amazing line-up! I notice you ate at both Riverside and FQ, I'm assuming you stayed at FQ since you had two breakfasts there? It's our favourite resort! :thumbsup2

We stayed at FQ, but went to Riverside once for lunch. I've stayed at FQ so many times (this is my third), and I'd never been over to Riverside before! It was a nice walk.

Though they were having some sort of dancing/cheerleading registration there so we ate and ran out of there for fear of hoards of little girls everywhere! :cheer2:

First of all, I'm glad so many have signed on for my culinary ride! It took me longer than I wanted to upload my 100+ pictures (I'm not ashamed!) of food onto photobucket. I was having all kinds of problems... :scared:

Riverside Mill Food Court (L)

When we arrived at POFQ, our room wasn't ready (it was only noon). Now this doesn't bother me (though we did do online check-in, so our card and everything were ready, very handy). But the lady at the check-in desk was so... dumb! :lmao: I don't know how else to describe it! She was very sleepy (at one point, she yawned so loud that she stumbled backwards, no lie!) and kept looking around for someone else to help her with the computer. :confused3

Well, this isn't a trip report (let me just say, our first day was a cluster eff if you know what I mean, but it didn't set the tone for our trip, I promise!), so I'll cut right to the chase. We had some time to kill before our room was ready so we stuck our carry-ons at luggage storage and took the scenic walk down the path that leads to Riverside!

We went to the main building of Riverside, and I had no idea where the food court was. So the CM standing at the door to the main building looked nice so I asked her: "Excuse me, where is the food court?"

And she turned around and said, "Right under that sign that says "Food and Drink." It was RIGHT in front our faces. But leave it to CMs to not make me feel like an idiot!

My DBFF (Disney Best Friend Forever) was intrigued by the make your own salad option, but once she saw me in line for the make your own pasta, she wanted what I was having!

DBFF's Make Your Own Pasta: penne with alfredo and Shrimp. She put on peas, roasted red peppers, and parmesan cheese. (with breadstick)

My Make Your Own Pasta: Penne with marinara and shrimp. I had spinach and broccoli in mine topped with parmesan cheese.
ry%3D400

We both had the same feeling about this this: YUMMY! First of all, the pasta seemed to steam the entire time we ate it because it was so hot and fresh. I mean, how often does the parmesan cheese they sprinkle on your pasta MELT? The shrimp were perfect, the sauce was great. I can't say anything bad about this. It was A LOT of pasta and we came no where near finishing it. It was our first meal of the trip at WDW so we knew there was more food coming! The breadstick is more crusty so we broke it in half and stuck it down in our "box" and let it soften up. But you can also just skip the bread! What makes this special is that they make it individually for your and that makes a ton of difference in the freshness!

With our meal plan credit, we each got a bottle of water (all bottled drinks are on the plan) and we went over to the bakery to get our dessert.

NOTE: You can also get yogurt and fruit options for your dessert in the refrigerator case!

DBFF Carrot Cake
ry%3D400

We were super stuffed but she ate half of this. The cream cheese frosting was so rich (which is how I like my cream cheese frosting!)

My Red Velvet Cake
ry%3D400

This was made with the same tasting cream cheese frosting. My cake was a little too dense to call it moist, but it wasn't dry at all. Pretty good for a QS dessert!

On the bus the next day, a lady on the bus kept saying over and over again, "We have to get Fast Passes to Magic Mountain. We have to get Fast Passes to Magic Mountain." I must have missed that one! :rotfl2:

:coffee:I so can't wait for WDW and you've only posted one meal so far! I think this report may kill me! LOL Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more...

I'm in. Great review of por food court, we also loved the make your own pasta. Good value for a cs credit.

The make your own pasta at Riverside is so yummy, even if I wasn't staying there, I would make a special trip there just to have it :goodvibes

Great review :thumbsup2

Can't wait to have the Make Your Own Pasta next month, definitely one of my favourite things about POR food court!

I have only read good things about that pasta bar at Riverside. And it always looks so delicious. I am going to have to keep that in mind for next year.

Subbing--looking forward to more reviews! :thumbsup2 Thank you for your positive outlook. Some dining reviews seem very... glass half empty, ya know? ;)

We love the food court at POR! We've had the make your own salad a few times (which is delicious, BTW!) but have never tried the make your own pasta station. Shocking, I know! :faint: We'll definitely be correcting that on our upcoming trip! Your pasta selection is almost exactly what I would choose, yum! Thanks for your review, looking forward to more! :goodvibes

This will be good! I have several ADRs in common with your lineup. I'm so glad you had fabulous experiences and can't wait to hear about them.

That MYO pasta looks pretty good. I sometimes wish that the deluxe resorts had some of the better dining options that the moderates have.

We are having record highs here in Ohio (our average right now is 95 degrees!) So this girl has been staying INDOORS since she got back from Disney. I'm a teacher so I have my summers off and have that luxury! And let me tell you, you need at least a weekend to recover from a Disney vacation before you return to everyday life! But for some reason, we keep going back for more! ;)

T-Rex Restaurant (D)

I have been to the Rainforest Cafe, so I was excited to learn that T-Rex was now on the dining plan! I had heard all about this restaurant being LOUD, but I wanted to try it anyways!

And let me tell you, this restaurant is LOUD! Like having to yell to talk to the person sitting one foot across from you loud! Since we were going to go to plenty of quiet sit down restaurants (Citricos, anyone?), I didn't really care about the noise. But if you want a quiet eating environment, go ANYWHERE else (even Rainforest Cafe is quieter in my experience). In fact, our hostess as she was walking us to our seat said "welcome to the quietest restaurant on Earth!" :rotfl:

We were sat at a table that was RIGHT next to the aquarium in the "ocean" part of the restaurant. If you don't know, the restaurant is divided into different "terrains" like ice, water, rocky lands, etc. It was nice to see the little "Dorys" swimming around among other tropical fish.

Our waiter was NOT named Peter, but I kept calling him Peter. And now I can't remember his actual name! He was super nice, talkative, joked with us (I'm the type to yuck it up with my waiter whenever possible), and even said that even it takes him a little longer to see how we're doing, he hadn't forgotten us. I thought, uh oh, we'll never see him again, but sure enough, he was attentive and everything was great!

On to the food:

Drinks
I'm only sharing the drinks because they were specialty drinks on the meal plan.

(Left) A Strawberry-asaurus lemonade with actual strawberries in the bottom, (Right) the Very-Cherry Limeade.
ry%3D400

No refills on these but nice to get something other than just "Coke, Sprite, Diet" as an option.

Appetizers
DBFF's Melalosaurus Mozzarella - Seared Mozzarella with creamy marinara and mozzarella fingers $8.99
ry%3D400

We got our appetizer choices to share. The mozzarella sticks were pretty much what you expect. The marinara was yummy (and hot, which I prefer). Now that "seared mozzarella" was so FREAKIN yummy. It was like a mozzarella "patty" with this breading on the top. I've never had anything like it. It had a richer flavor than the sticks and we ate that thing right up!

My T-Rexadillas - Chicken, peppers, green onions, Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses grilled in flour tortillas and served with pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole $9.99
ry%3D400

Okay now I am not lying when I say these were some of the best quesadillas I have ever had. Crunchy tortilla? Check. Juicy chicken inside? Check. I ate two of these and was like... must.stop.more.food.coming. So good! I seriously could have just eaten this for dinner, but you know how to works on the Deluxe Plan, there's ALWAYS more food coming! :goodvibes

Entrees
DBFF's Boneyard Buffet - Fire-roasted Rotisserie Chicken and Mega Mes-O-Bones served with garlic mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples $26.99
ry%3D400

Now you HAVE to be thinking, she can't be serious right? A rack of ribs AND half a chicken? :lmao: My DBFF wanted the rotisserie chicken, but she also wanted to try the ribs that our waiter (not named Peter) so enthusiastically recommended. The ribs were the highlight of the dish for her. In fact, she said she could have gone without the chicken (she only took a few bites). She HATED the cinnamon apples. She took a bite and made a face. They were salty and weren't soft like she expected. She said she wanted "Boston Market's" apples, but these just WEREN'T.

My Fire-Roasted Rotisserie Chicken - Half of a chicken, slow-roasted and served with waffle fries $19.99
ry%3D400

According to Allears, you get two sides with this dish? I was only offered one, so I got waffle fries. So basically my dish is HALF of what DBFF ordered. So if we weren't on the meal plan, you can just order what she got and share it! I ate some of the breast of the chicken, but after the quesadillas and mozzarella, I was saving room for dessert! This was pretty good chicken. It reminds me of the rotisserie chicken you get at Sam's Club or Giant Eagle, or any grocery store.

Desserts
NOTE: Now this isn't mentioned on Allears, but some of the dishes are said to be "For two" or "for four" and you HAVE to share them on the meal plan. So if we got the dessert for "two" that would be our only dessert. And we didn't have the option of getting the dessert "for four." Just a little tidbit. This is also true for the Appetizers as well!

DBFF's Cosmic Key Lime Pie - freshly baked key lime pie in a graham cracker crust, served with raspberry sauce and fresh whipped cream $7.99
ry%3D400

We are both fans of cheesecake and Key Lime pie (as you will see if you continue to read my DR!), so I had a bite of this. This isn't the BEST Key Lime pie I had on my trip (that's hands down Wolfgang Puck's Cafe's pie), but it was yummy.

My Ice Age Indulgence - layers of ice cream sandwich, fudge sauce, creamy whipped topping, and Heath Bar crunch $8.99
ry%3D400

You know what this dessert had going for it? TEXTURES! The ice cream with the crispy chocolate layers in the middle (sort of like a crispier outside of an ice cream sandwich) with the chocolate syrup. I ate more of this than I should but had to call it quits. Wouldn't want to GO EXTINCT on the first day our trip from too much food!

All in all, I like T-Rex. It's a nice option on the meal plan because there are SO MANY choices on the menu. That's not true for most Disney restaurants.

p.s. As I was writing this, I remembered my waiter's actual name. PATRICK!

My DS, who will be 10 & a Disney adult on our trip in December, is talking about how he wants the Tyrannasaurus T-Bone. I can't wait to see how big this thing is! He hasn't met a steak he doesn't like though so I'm assuming he'll be eating it often on our trip!

That ice cream sandwich dessert looks amazing!

We love T-Rex. It is probably our favourite non-Disney WDW restaurant :thumbsup2

Can't wait for the rest. Thanks for sharing. Think I might have to go over to POFQ for some of that pasta.

The food at T-Rex looks good...but I suspect it's unlikely we'll dine there. The fact that it's LOUD is a big turnoff for us. So we'll leave that one to the kids.
