Beware: Disney auto-cancelling your DDP ressies

As for the other post about how poeple complained that 90 days wasn't enough...

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't get that. Outside of a WDW vacation, in your life how many other meals do you plan 90 (or 180) days in advance?

I guess at the end of the day, I'm generally not an obsessive "planner" with anything in my life, but when it comes to a WDW vacation, you have no choice and I'm having difficulty with it.

I am a planner. However, even I only had about 90 days to plan my entire wedding.... and that's the only other meal that I have planned that far in advance! :rolleyes1

45-60 days sounds perfect to me. :3dglasses

I just have to to say that this has been a very interesting thread to read. So glad to see ideas/opinions discussed w/o snarky-ness. Never knew this could be a possible issue w/auto-cancel or mad CMs. Very interesting indeed!

I learned a lot too... never thought to book split-up parties under separate names to prevent auto-cancelling.

Nothing should be auto cancled.. I read on the boards somewhere about someone getting their ressies cancled cause they changed their reservation to a package. I did the same thing and was told that they don'e cancle automatically it had to be done by a person. I think you were talking to someone who didn't know what they were doing..

That surprises me. Whether changing travel arrangements, or cancelling trips entirely, I've had to actively and separately cancel my dining reservation. Nobody ever did it automatically - not even "the [cough, cough] computer" ;)

it does look like the computer doesn't cancel automatically, that a person has to do something. However, the computer certainly did "flag" something. When I called, I gave the CM the info to look for a new ADR. If she was busy trying to get the new ADR, she certainly didn't have time to deduce a perceived double reservation. The computer screen obviously brought up *something* automatically.

I think the computer said "Click here to permanently and definitively delete the two double-booked, not-allowed reservations!". :rolleyes1

Had to call again to cancel a couple ressies (will be dining with another party instead) and came to find out that my Akershus ADR - that was credit card guaranteed had already been cancelled without my direction! Thing is, the Akershus ADR was the only lunch ressie I had on that day - no duplication of any kind.

I asked the nice CM and he said that the system did not list a reason why it had been cancelled or by whom? It wasn't me! :confused3

I guess I could think that Disney read my mind and cancelled it through telepathy?

I of course made the poor CM re-verify all other ressies and they were all still intact.

Some program or some person is cancelling ressies and I don't know why...

Not that dissimilar from the discussion we had earlier in the thread about if you call, sometimes bad things can happen? I'm not saying that's what happened in your case, but anecdotal evidence suggests that every time you call for something and someone "touches" your ADRs, the chances for some screw-up go up exponentially.

I doubt it was intentional in any case, especially given the circumstances for that day/that meal that you posted.

Good point.

I'd say most think the opposite - it is not automated, automatic or anything of the sort. Respectfully, I do not believe that the CM that posted above is correct. I have also had "double" reservations in the past (for various reasons, and yes, cancelled appropriately eventually) and never had anything cancelled.

But guess what? I have never ever called the dining line in those instances to change anything about my reservations. Therefore, I was not having an actual person bring up all my ADRs after they were made so that the double bookings become obvious. THAT'S when you're going to have the possibility of running into an issue, IMO.

It's not just when you call disney dining - it's whenever you call disney at all. I just called the regular line to pay my balance and put in my room request and the CM asked me if I needed any help with dining reservations (since we have the DxDP) and when I said I had made them all, she said, you are right I can see them all! Which is funny, because *I* cannot see all of my ADRs, only the two I made on the phone and the two I made after the online system changed. So anyways, it's not necessarily the dining CMs that may have "autocanceled" an ADR.

Well. After all that stress, none of my ressies were cancelled. Pheeww!

Loved, loved, loved the FREE dining!

My DH fell in love with Wolfgang Puck Express and insisted on eating there almost every day! Claimed it was better than many TS places we ate. I agree.... and only wish they would have more than one of these on WDW property! Considering the price of some of these CS ($17.99 for the salmon entree!), it cost more than some TS too! We always left a tip for the excellent waitstaff!!

Also, shout-out to California Grill! Ate there twice! and loved each time! Best Bread on WDW property!! so my 6yo DS says!

And it was all FREE! FREE! FREE!!

Welcome home! Glad you had a great trip and very importantly, that you were able to eat when and where you thought you were going to. ;)

It's also really nice that you reported back. Often threads like these are started and create widespread panic because they are left hanging unanswered.
