Savannah Guthrie’s mother missing

If you look at the photo that shows the suspect’s feet, you can see the one foot takes up the length of one of the floor tiles. That gives a good guess of the shoe sizeView attachment 1047004

If that's right, most outdoor tiles are 12 inch standard (24 inch, too, but no feet are that big). AI says a 12 inch foot is a men's size 14 (or between 13.5 and 14).

If the foot is that big, between that and the dark mustache facial hair, it's definitely a man...and the shoe size is a rather large size.

Best explanation I have heard is it is a Mexican gang, Tucson is very close to the border. The mask to me looks more like a mexican wrestling mask. They wrote things like US dollars, americans would never say that.

Also they always said one of the issues with bitcoins is would be used by criminals, so put a fork in bitcoin

In Savannah's last video, she even said, if there is anything out of the ordinary, even the slightest thing, call the police and report it. Guys in that area with big broad shoulders suddenly shaving off their facial hair may be enough for someone calling him in.

This reminds me of the Luigi killing the Insurance CEO case. The one outstanding feature the police/FBI put out was that the suspect had dark bushy eyebrows. And that was how Luigi was spotted by a fellow customer in that McDonalds in PA.

The police later showed the contents of Luigi's backpack. In it, he had a To Do list which even said to himself to pluck his eyebrows. Had he done that before the shooting, he might never have been caught. But, even if he did it afterward, when he finally made it back home, people who loosely knew him may have wondered why he suddenly plucked his brows? He could have joked it off, "OMG! That description sounds like ME! I didn't want the police coming here looking at me." 😂 But, my guess is someone would have called it in because the plucking was so soon after the shooting. 🤔

I sure hope so. I pray that they find him ASAP. I can't imagine what the family must be going through. How would you even sleep at night from all of the anxiety and sadness?

Agree, I think the interest is not that her daughter is famous, it is more like this could happen to any of us. The good news is that just about all major kidnappers do get caught

ABC News now says a person has been detained for questioning. And the police have a warrant to search an area (around the Tucson area) in association to this person. They have not confirmed whether the person is the same on as in the video, or even that he's a suspect. They are just bringing him in for questioning.

It would be easy enough for the investigators to measure the tile on Nancy’s porch. I’m sure they have probably done that.

BBC is reporting:

Oro Valley police says it was involved in Swat mission

published at 22:32

The police department of Oro Valley, a suburban town in Arizona, has confirmed to the BBC it was involved in a regional Swat mission tonight.

It did not confirm the details of the mission.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared in the middle of night from her home in Tucson, Arizona, and was last seen on 31 January.

Person detained during traffic stop in Tucson, police confirm

In the last few moments, the Pima County Sheriff’s office released this statement:

"Earlier today, Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies detained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson," the statement says.

"The subject is currently being questioned in connection to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available."

Thanks, I have a cat. When I go away on vacation for an extended period, I want to have a cat sitter or two come in to feed her every day. I want to have a good camera that I can watch to make sure they do show up every day. Yet, I don't want to send an arm & a leg for a subscription I only will need for a short period of time.
You can get cameras that take SD cards to save video and avoid subscriptions. You can check in on the free app and go through the saved video and download any you need. It's limited to whatever the card holds and then it rewrites.

I feel bad for him.
Me too. I just watched a video of him speaking to the press outside his home. They scooped him up with no explanation, didn’t read him his rights until 2 hours later, damaged his home, broke down his garage door. He’s a door dasher and now he has to a) clear his name and b) find the money to repair his home after they busted their way through it.

It’s like the keystone cops running this thing.

This does happen from time to time, if there's less information especially over time it increases the field of people either that they track down or happen to run into. Didn't it just happen on another incident where someone was detained but was later released and found to be unrelated.

Personally, I think the part that makes it more risky is when it gets national especially worldwide news coverage far too early on. Like the BBC sure is just reporting what information they found but it was without any other information than a person was being actively questioned it puts the spotlight far too quick on the situation. And the recourse for a person whose reputation could be impacted is a lot less for the BBC than it is if their local news spoke.

Actually, nothing there falls outside of Constitutional rights.

To the point about when he was informed of his Miranda rights, unless they immediately began questioning him, there is nothing wrong with that time frame. TV and movies have led us to the fallacy that someone needs to be Mirandized as soon as they are arrested, but that's untrue. It's before questioning that someone needs to be informed of their Miranda rights. If two hours pass between time of detention and time of questioning, then it's reasonable and expected it would take that long until Miranda rights are read.

From what I've read, he was detained during a traffic stop, so an arrest without a warrant. Officers are not constitutionally required to explain the specific charge at the exact moment of detention. Under County of Riverside v. McLaughlin (1991) someone arrested without a warrant must receive a judicial determination of probable cause "promptly,", generally with 48 hours.

The property was searched with a valid search warrant. If no one was at the property, officers can forcibly enter after complying with knock-and-announce requirements. If the only way to gain access is to break a door or window, that can be lawful if it reasonably necessary to execute a search warrant. The governing case for that is United States v. Ramirez where the Supreme Court held that destruction of property during a search does not violate Fourth Amendment rights so long as it is no excessive or unnecessary.

Other than detaining someone that they've now released, I don't see anything in their actions that warrant the keystone cops comparison. Unfortunately, we've all become accustomed to the way things are done on TV and in the movies that we assume that's the legal way arrest, question, and search warrants are supposed to happen.

Sometimes one has a conversation with someone, tells someone else - the wrong person hears about it - a little old lady lives alone in the middle of nowhere with a well known daughter.......

Random robber - but backpack would be empty..I would think

Someone hired him to take her

So many scenarios

It might not even have anything to do with Savannah. Mom might have just blabbed to have money or other valuables in a safe in the home.

I still can’t wrap my head around the bolded. I don’t have a fraction of the money Savannah has but I made sure my mom had a 24-hour live in helper when she was 84-years old like Nancy. Sure, mom might not want it at first, but she will be kicking herself forever for not insisting.

ABC News said someone phoned in a tip that he and his mom were holding Nancy at their house. Since he fits the look of the guy in the Nest video, (although he is a bit beefier,) and he is a delivery person who could have been out and about with most people not paying attention to Door Dashers in the neighborhoods, the police went in.

His mom was also interviewed later on TV. It's obvious that both of them pay no attention to the news. They are just hard working people, minding their own business, heads down with their nose to the grindstone. In both their interviews they couldn't even remember afterwards the name of the woman being looked for. (Me, after being descended upon, having my house broken into, being traumatized so much that I now have PTSD, Nancy's name would be seared into my memory.)

The ABC News expert, former FBI profiler Brad Garrett says that we should expect more of these questionings as people call in even more tips now that there is a video. He said that one may have even come in a day or two after Nancy was abducted, but the police hadn't gotten to sorting through all the many tips yet. And back then, they had no direction to go in to prioritize the tips coming in. He said, most likely ONE of these tips will be the one that helps get her found.

As for the abductor in the video, Garrett said the man is a complete amateur. That he doesn't know what he's doing. He said in all his years as a profiler with experience with abductions, this man was hesitant, bumbling, and took way too long. When he spotted the Nest camera, he didn't know what to do, bumbled around grabbing weeds to obscure the view. Then he took too long inside the house. No criminals spend that long at a scene. He said professionals and even experienced criminals roll up with a mission, take down the camera quickly, get in the house immediately, get in and get out right away.

He also mentioned that where the guy wore the holster was a joke. He said many people accidentally end up shooting themselves having the holster at that place.

I have wondered if the way Garrett said his assessment wasn't to goad the guy into making another mistake.
