I have a set of Noritake china complete 12 serving and all the serving dishes. I don't want it, but don't know what the best way to sell it would be. I do not want to try ebay because I am afraid of shipping and breakage. Any thoughts?

You do realize that this really expensive China, right?? It might be a good Idea to have an Auction House appraise it before you just get rid of it. Then you would know if it is a collectable pattern, age, or quality.

I know I have seen it on Antique Roadshow before for some good $$$

I sold my unwanted China at replacements.com. I'm sure it wasn't top dollar but it was better than ebay. Or you could try craigslist.com.

See if there is a high-end consignment store nearby. We have several in Richmond. One specializes in china, crystal and collectibles. Others do furniture, but they might take china too. You could also sell it locally using a newspaper ad.

I made the mistake of selling a 53 piece set of Lenox china ebay. What a nighmare. Sold it at x-mas time, wrapped really well, buyer refused delivery. She claimed never to have gotten it due to bad snowstorm. It came back to me, 4 pieces were broken. I had to file insurance, got paid and reship at more significant cost. I didnt make any money I wiuld have been much better off reslliong elsewhere.

It is Lindrose I believe pattern 5234. I have no idea if it is old or not. I'm thinking maybe about 40 years old, but I'm not sure.

I would be interested as well.

I have the same situation - settings for 12, all the accessory pieces, maybe a couple replacements. I don't think it was used 10 times. I received it as wedding presents in 1974. It is also Nortake but I have no idea the pattern name, it has a small border of white flowers on a white plate with a thin silver edge. The plate is flate, no distinctive dip in the plate.

List on the Craigslist for your area. It's free, you can put up as many pics as you like by self-hosting (of course you could do this with eBay too) but best of all you'll get local people who are willing to come pick the item up and hand you cash! (not in that order of course)

:cool1:

Kind of OT, but in the same line of thought :)

I have a set of Noritake for 12 (most of it - some stuff has broken over the years) It was my great aunt's wedding china, and is about 70 years old. How do I find out the pattern name, etc. I'm not interested in selling it, I'm just curious how much I should panic when I have to wash it ;)

I also have another set of dishes that I do want to sell. Is really packing them well good enough to ship them?

To find out what pattern you have my suggestion is to look on ebay, search Noritake china and then just look for one like yours! I almost always find what I am looking for that way.

You can also use the image gallery for Noritake on the replacements.com website. Just go to the china page, choose Noritake and it will bring you to a page with a list of all the patterns. Look for the blue bar to the left of the pattern names and click it to see thumnails of the patterns. The pictures can be a little small but large enough to see at a glance if the pattern is similar to the one you are looking for. That is how I found out the name of my mom's pattern.

I actually did a search on ebay with the numbers that are stamped on the bottom. That is how I found out the name of the pattern.

Okay, I just called replacements.com to see what they will offer. They would only be interested in the serving pieces. Would you break up the set or leave it together and find somewhere local to sell it?

I would leave the set together. replacements.com isn't going anywhere in the next few weeks.... so, if you find somewhere/someone to buy the entire set then good for you, and if you can only sell the placesettings... replacements.com will still be an option.
