Best way to pivot to AP with reservations

We booked a package (at the discounted rate for the time period) for this September. Room+7 day park hoppers.

Then I was able to score Princess run tickets so we booked another package (no special rate) for February. Room+7 day park hoppers.

The notion just struck me that it would probably be cheaper to buy annual passes and book room only. I think that it will save me at least $500 if not more.

Only problem is our current category of room for the September stay is sold out so I can't verify that savings for sure by booking that room and then canceling our existing package reservation if the math works out.

Do I need to call a CM to remove the tickets from both of my stays so that I don't lose my September room? Also, can they add on an AP discount to those room only rates and is there an AP discount on top of the special rates this fall? My understanding is that you can book AP rates and then just have to activate your AP before your check in to get those rates but I haven't bought an AP in over 20 years.

There is an AP discount 35%, 30, 25, 15, 10 off for dates until September 28. The General public discount is 25, 20, 15, 10 or 30, 25, 20, 10 depending on dates. Where are you booked for what dates in September?

As long as the AP is activated on check-in day you’re good there. They cannot apply an AP discount to a room only reservation unless there is availability + availability at the discount rate. The problem will be if Disney suddenly halts AP sales and then you’re screwed because you won’t have it. To prevent that I would buy the APs now, you can buy them now and then activate in Sept so the clock won’t start on them now.

You need to call about switching to a room only res. When you do so the CM can look up available AP rates for your dates.

You could book a room only for February and upgrade your hopper tickets at guest services in September during your trip.

Our september trip is 9/14-21 - editing to add at the Boardwalk :)

I was certainly planning on purchasing the APs now and then activating them on 9/14 just in case they sell out before that. I know that it would be easier to just go in september and upgrade to AP, but there is a chance they will sell out. I don't know if we would use them a third time after february, but you never know so might as well leave as much time on them as possible.

I should just call and see if it's possible I guess (like you said, based on availability). They don't need to change anything to check I assume? I'm just nervous that somehow we will lose our september room in the process and then have to rebook another catagory or even another hotel possibly negating any savings.

I would call and make sure you can keep your general public discount if you buy the AP now and convert to room only and then see if AP discount is available for what you have booked in September. Rebook Feb as room only and then you can modify it when AP discounts for Feb drop

Just looked no Club level with AP discount. Not surprisingly since this discount has been out for a while and there was a Disney Visa discount offer covering same period.
