Adidas, Saucony, New Balance, Nike all make great shoes and with the bargains that are out right now, you should be able to find a good shoe fairly cheap.
My recommendation, try on a pair and walk around the store for a while, browsing other items, checking out the kids shoes etc. You should be able to find a pair you like.
The other thing you can do (but you won't get as much of a bargain) is to go to a good, private, running shoe store and get fitted for a pair of shoes. They'll look at your stride and shape of your foot and reccomend a shoe.
I just bought a pair of Saucony 60% off, which is a little more than I meant to spend ($40) but they were the best shoes I could find in the store. Now I have to decide if I'm going to keep them. 2 of my 3 pairs of good sneakers are getting pretty rundown, but aren't dead yet. (Well. One pair has holes and has lost tread, but they're sooooo comfy. I don't want to consign them to digs and yard work. . .

)
Another thing, for bargains, is try to find someone who believes all the runner's advice - the shoe companies try to tell people they need new shoes after 6 months if they run every day. It isn't true, but it means that people like you and I can get their castoffs! (I have such a source, but her castoffs are on my young relations' feet right now. Sigh.)
