So it looks like i will need stiches removed while on vacation. :-( We're staying at Wilderness Lodge. Any input on the most convenient / most pleasant & competent urgent care? Thanks.

I'll have to see if my husband remembers the name (but I think it was Concentra)... but Disney has free transportation to/from this urgent care... its about 10-15min away. Just call the front desk and they'll call the van to take you there. DH got sick last year and we had to go there... they were very nice and it didn't take TOO long, as Urgent Care goes. There is a walgreens w/in walking distance from the UC, the transport van doesn't take you there, but its only about a 5 min. walk. Then you walk back to UC and they'll call the van to come take you back to you're resort. Good luck with those stitches!:shamrock:

I had to remove my daughter's stitches because we moved out of the country. I used nail clippers to cut them and then pulled them out with tweezers. Very easy and she didn't feel a thing!

Does your insurance have a higher copay for urgent care? Mine is cheaper if I use a walk-in at Walgreens or CVS. You may also want to check if your insurance covers the location. You don't want to get hit with a huge charge for snipping a stitch.

I'm waaay too skittish to ever yank them out. Will a cvs clinic take them out? That would be great. I'm not too happy about wasting so much time in one of those centers.

Thanks.

Do you have someone with you who can take them out? You just need small scissors or nail clippers to cut them then just pull them out. That's all they will do at a clinic.

Centracare. We've used them more than any vactioner should ever be required to!:rolleyes1

They are all around the area and if you don't have a car they will pick you up at the front desk for free. The front desk has the brochure and number. Try very hard to do online check in from a computer first!!!
It will give you a time to come in which keeps you from sitting in the waiting room for hours and hours.

ETA We've been to the one just outside of DTD and another that I can't recall exactly where it was.
This is the website with locations and info http://www.centracare.org/Locations/LakeBuenaVista/tabid/14614/Default.aspx

I'm sure they would, they would have to have medical training to be working there.

Use small scissors, or even nail clippers to snip 'em, and pull 'em out. That will save you a TON of time. You will be DEAD LAST in line at any urgent care for a suture removal, not to mention the getting there and getting back. The most sensation you'll have is a tickling, tugging feeling.

I 2nd Centrcare. One trip we spent 5 out of our 6 days there, They were great. Call the front desk of your hotel they will have the number. We were picked up in no longer then 15 mins. The care was fine. Funny thing we saw a lot of cast members being treated there too.

Nonsense. It's somewhere between removing a band-aid and cutting a fingernail. You can do it, and if you can't whoever is with you can.

You won't just save the money for the co-pay, you'll save valuable vacation time.

Plan on spending hours upon hours waiting.. we had to make a trip once when DS ended up with strep throat.... I'm not one for yanking my own stitches either but in this case I'd rather do that than to waste that much time! Oh.. and while they only charged me my PCP co-pay at the clinic... My insurance co. considered it an ER visit so I got billed for the ER co-pay after I got home ($250!)

Honestly it kinda tickles when you pull them out, not bad at all. Assuming they are in a place you can pull them.
