Best Trip Yet (2/9-2/15) pt1

This was our best trip to Disney!!! The weather was in my opinion perfect. It was in the low 70's upper 60's most everyday, with plenty of sun. Not too hot, not cold. We stayed off site and that was the only disappointing part of our trip. Our hotel was clean, nice, and cheap but not Disney.
We did the MK, Epcot and MGM. DH doesn't care for AK and we skipped it this time. Also went to DD once and the Boardwalk twice.
We really enjoyed our time at the World Showcase. There were a lot of performers out and even quite a few characters. When we arrived at Epcot it was about 15 minutes before opening. While in line we were able to see the characters arrive on the double-decker bus. This was great. On our last trip (4/02) ds only got 9 autographs. There was very little characters out last time, possibly because it was so hot. On the very first morning he got 14 autographs. All in all, he ended up with 49 this trip which was incredible. Of course there are a some doubles. It seemed like everytime we turned around there was another character. (no or minimal lines too).
DH and I are usually chicken about any ride more wild than the steam train (lol). We decided to be brave and rode Big Thunder Mountain (which was a big deal for us)... we loved it and can't wait to do it again! Also, I decided to go all out and rode TOT with ds. I was really nervous and thought it was just okay. Not sure I will do it again. Next time I will do RNR and Splash Mountain.
We walked on to Test Track and TOT. We encountered very little waiting. The longest line we waited in was for Haunted Mansion and it was 20 minutes and it was middle of the afternoon. While the parks seemed to have a lot of people, the crowds seemed managable.

You were so lucky being able to walk on the popular rides. I'm still too chicken to ride any of the coasters although I will ride Splash.

Sounds like a great trip. I love MK when the weather is that perfect.

I have never been to Epcot at opening and didn't know there was a character bus. Sounds neat.

Which hotel did you stay at? We are staying on site but for the first night after a long drive I am looking for something off site that is good, clean and cheep.

DS is 10. We stayed at the Days Inn Maingate East. This is our second stay there. In April 2002 I got an internet rate of $19.99 for a double room. This year I got $31.99. It was cheap, modern, and clean. I encountered no bugs or mold. The biggest complaint I had was that there was a family next door that talked loud. I didn't complain because it was only for the last night. Other than that, the hotel was quiet and near deserted until the last night. The pool was clean and warm too.

I love to hear reports with kids my son's age! He will also be 10 when we go in December. Did your son still enjoy the characters? What about character meals?

We loved the weather and the crowds too (Feb 1-8). Thanks for sharing. BTW....you will LOVE Rock N Roller Coaster!!!!!

We have yet to do a character meal. We have 2 more trips planned (will probably be the last for awhile). At our next one, at the end of March, a character meal will be a priority.
DS is alittle weird about the characters now. There were some he really wanted to see. There were others he just couldn't be bothered with, especially if there were more than 2 people in line. However, he was willing to wait forever to see Goofy and Max. DH and I like getting family pics w/ the characters so ds just had to suffer.
