We're from the UK and planning to visit next year. My daughter (12) wants to go in August, during her main school holidays, but the kids here also have a break from school the first 2 weeks in June, and I'm wondering whether that would be less crowded or cooler?
The news about the hurricane is so worrying. Anyone know when is the peak season for storms and hurricanes in Florida please?
Also can you tell me when the schools are on vacation in US?

My first ever post - can you tell?

Storm season in Florida usually last from the end of Aug. to the beg. of October. As for school, college students get out at the beginning of may, but elementary and high school typically get out the first or second week in June. As for which will be the least crowded, I'm not sure since I've never been to the world in either month.

Apparently, from what I read on another similar post, the hurricane season actually starts at the beginning of August and can last until November. Typically, though, hurricanes hit hardest in Aug. and Sept.

Go figure... the Unofficial Guide To Disney says the June thru Spetember is hurricane season.

Either time will be hot & humid, but if it was me I'd go in June.

I recommend June too. We have been several times the first week of June and it has been manageable. There will be crowds, but not as bad as later in the summer and it will be a bit cooler. The schools in the U.S. start getting out from the end of May through the 2nd week or so in June. So, the earlier you can go in June the better. If you read the Unofficial Guide to WDW book and use these boards you will also get some other tips that will make your trip more fun. Good luck!

I'd say June is better for weather. August and June are about the same for crowds.

If your main concern is crowds, be aware that the first week of June is usually gay pride week at Disney so that draws a lot of crowds. If you go that week , you may want to find out which park the groups will be at each day and avoid those parks because it will be very crowded as it is a popular event.

But the other parks should be only normal sized crowds. I don't think there is any sort of special event like this the second week but I could be wrong. I am almost positive that there is no special event in August.

If you are mainly concerned about hurricanes, hurricanes like this are pretty rare. During the summer, there will be rain, and sometimes windy rain, at least once a day almost every day. But it does not last too long!

I think you'll have a great time whenever you go. The only times crowds are truly unmanageable is during a few big holidays (Christmas, New Years, July 4, Easter). The rest of the time it's not that bad. Use Fast Pass. Read www.wdwig.com and get yourself The Unofficial Guide for good touring plans.

As for the weather, no one can ever truly predict the weather in FL. :) But most of the time it's not too bad.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I'm really surprised to have so much useful information come back so quickly.
What lovely people Disney-talk attracts!

No doubt we'll make our decision soon, and I'm sure we'll have a great time come what may. We're having a great time already just thinking about it!

Ok ...........first off hurricane season is officially June til November although it seems we get the most action in Aug. and Sept.
The first 2 weeks in June will probably be the least crowded since many US schools are in session until about the middle of June, some get out a little earlier and some a little later. As far as heat and humidity, I would take June over August although both will be hot, the later part of the summer, July and August seem to get more afternoon rainshowers, but every year is different. Also typically the first week in June, especially the first weekend in June is usually gaydays, just thought I would tell you that, some are offended others are not. The first Sat. in June is usually gay day at the MK. I am just telling you that so you are aware, although I have never had any problems during that time.
I hope this information is helpful.

Both months are hot but June is a little less crowded. Also, I thought Hurricane season started June 1??? Whatever, the hurricane season is not that active until September or August. You will like either month if you like hot weather---we do as we love water parks. Have a great time.
