Best time of year to camp at WDW?

I've recently become semi-obsessed with camping at FtW. it sounds like a blast! :hyper: and a great way to stay at a WDW resort for 1/4 the cost. We live on the Space Coast, so yes we can drive out there in an hour but that eats gas and toll money to do it every time we want to get use play 4 days pass!

I know Value dates are the cheapest time to go but i was wondering when you all think the best time to go is?
any other newbie advice is welcome as well. the trip will be me and BF in a tent.

BTW i have been camping once in the "driveway" of my grandparents NC mountain/lake house. we had 20 relatives trying to stay in the 3 bedroom + loft mountainhouse  so 3 of us girls braved the outdoors! night 1 the tent got flooded! fierce storm. night 2 i got a marshmallow flung into my hair via my aunt (not tent camping related per se :p) and night 3 lost dogs attacked our tent at 5 am, at that time we went in side the house and later that morning a baby bear came down into the driveway!
That was the funnest summer ever! lol
soooo it sounds like Ft. Wilderness is right up my camping alley!
5 star resort camping! wooohooo :teeth:

not being attacked by bears is a good thing! ::yes::

Thanks in Advance!

We went in October (value season!) last year and LOVED IT! We also went this past May and were very concerned about the deer flies but they turned out to not be a problem after all. I loved October and wish we could go again this year but DD only gets a 3 day school break and I won't go down unless it is at least 7 days. We are going in January so I hope we won't freeze! Have fun whenever you go!

thanks for the input.

i was thinking about the January time frame as well, and had the same freezing concern  but as i see it i'd rather be freezing in a tent rather than sweating profusely! summer is a BIG no for us. rain and heat = ick! and crowded parks

camping seems so much fun, and validating a $40 night stay at disney is a lot easier than $100+, especially when you live a little over an hour away.

I'm with LMC about October! In the past year we've been there in a popup in October, then February and May. I think our favorite by far was October...still warm enough to swim, but very pleasant during the day for riding bikes and visiting the parks, and at nights for the campfire show. We did have to contend with the deer flies in May, but it wasn't too bad. We've been there in a tent before in January (a little too cool for me), and September (a little too wet). So we'll be back again in October! ::yes::

ANYTIME>>>

Sorry to be sarcastic, but anytime of the year is a great time. Some times are just better than others. I would not like to tent in July/August due to the heat and the crowds are larger on the holidays.

The one nice thing about Ft. Wilderness is the electricity!! Even in December/January, just bring an electric blanket!! Keeps you nice and toasty in your tent.

Just make sure you also bring a small fan to circulate the air in your tent during the day even in the coldest temps. Dries everything out from all the condensation you create sleeping and you'll be warmer!

We went this past Oct as well and loved it! The weather was perfect for tent camping. Hot in the afternoons, mild at night and the Halloween decorations were awesome.

We are planning on May 2005 but I am concerned since several people have mentioned these deer flies.

We went this past May (last wk of May) and did not have a big problem w/ deer flies. This was a camping trip so we were at the campground most of the time but not necessarily at the camper. We rode bikes and spent alot of time at the pool. I think I was the only one that got bitten by the flies and that was 2 or 3 times. There weren't swarms or anything. Just try to get in a loop away from the canals. We were in loop 1000 and will probably request it again when we go back in May '05.

Just remember - a bad day at FW is better than a good day at any other campground.

;)

yay for al the replies :teeth: thank you all.

October seems to be winning! although i would consider the Jan/ Feb time frame too...although water fun would be out of the picture. Although it is cutting it close to go this october or november :(

i decided before even deciding that camping would be fun that i am NOT going in the dead heat of summer
it bad enough living in this heat with A/C. i can't imagine trying to tent in it. and the rain..ick

the electric blanket is a good idea for winter! and i've looked around... they aren't too expensive.

Dbf says spending $100 on supplies to be able to camp is dumb  but i figure we will defintely be doing this again..so sure it costs the same as staying at a moderate the first night..but after that..only $40-$60?!? at Disney?!?! its amazing! you save so much money..now i want an annual pass for my graduation present :teeth:

Thanks LMC. We're looking at early May. How did you find the heat that time of year? We'll be in a tent.

Thanks
