Hi,

I'm continuing my food threads with snacks now! We are going in 2 weeks to DL for 6 days and would like to get some great snacks. We go every year to WDW but haven't been to DL in about 6 or so years. I don't really know anything about where to eat and wanted to know where are the best or funnest or coolest places to go. So suggest away!

CindyBeth, my kids favorite is churros. One thing that DL has that WDW does not is mint juleps. It is a love or hate type of drink, but dh and I happen to be on the love side of it. They are in the NOS eateries. We will overlap with you. We are coming in on the first.

I don't like the mint juleps, but the Fritters that use to come from that window are good. Though I hate to say I miss the ones of the old days any one remember the huge fresh fried ones??

I also am a huge sucker for the pinapple spears. You think its just pinapple? No it's some of the best pinapple!! And its fun to eat while waiting for the Tikiroom or Jungle Cruise!

And a nice splurge any of the carmel apples!! YUMMY!

I have to agree with Fairycat - a big :thumbsup2 on the pineapple! Actually, the fruit all around DLR (in the carts or in the restaurants) is fantastic (sprinkled with pixie dust, I think). But that pineapple is outstanding! SO sweet and fresh and juicy! Anyway, that is a good healthy DLR snack.

Now as for the indulgent, not-so-healthy snacks, I really love the messy, gooey cinnamon rolls from Blue Ribbon Bakery. I always say I am going to get one when I go to DLR, but fortunately am usually able to resist the urge. I don't really eat too many of the out and out bad-for-you snacks at DLR because I just can't, unless I want to pass out! But once in a great while, those cinnamon rolls hit the spot. During the holiday season, I like to get the gingerbread men with Mickey ears cookie (so soft and moist), a snowman cookie and a Christmas tree cookie. IF the Bue Ribbon Bakery still sold strawberry shortcake, I would be getting that, but they stopped selling it. However, there are many other appealing things in their display case that I TRY not to pay attention to.

Oh, and this would fall more along the lines of dessert rather than a snack (Cindy, maybe you should start a Best Dessert thread!), but the apple pie and Matterhorn sundae sold at Carnation Cafe are pretty great. The apple pie comes with yummy, fluffy whipped cream and a scoop of ice cream and a couple of fresh strawberries, sliced to perfection. The Matterhorn sundae is a combination of different flavors of ice cream, different sauces and other toppings and is just scrumptious!

DD is a churro addict. Dh HAS to have DL popcorn. He worked 8 years (high school and college) at a gourmet popcorn shop. HE KNOWS POPCORN!! He sayd DL's is the best (and we've been to WDW). I love getting a Dole whip and eating it IN the Tiki Room, something you cannot do at WDW. No food or drinks allowed there!!!!

Matterhorn-shaped, chocolate drizzled, coconut macaroons from the Blue Ribbon bakery. If you get one warm, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven.

I was pleasantly surprised by the cream cheese filled pretzel. I got it at the Coke Corner (i think that's what that place is called) after the fireworks when we were waiting for the crowds to thin out. It's just a little bit sweet but not overly sweet.

The churros always smell so good but I haven't had one in years. I remember them being very good though. I'll have to put it on my list of things to do before my AP expires.

Churros!!!!! YUM, we get at least 1 every trip. We tend to share them so we usually get 2 for the 4 of us. :)

Dole Whip
Apple Pie Caramel Apple & Tigger Tails in Pooh Corner
ANY cookies or fudge type candies they have, OMG YUM!

We kinda sorta fell in love with the Tigger Tails from Pooh Corner. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Weird I must not like gourment popcorn, since I always think that their popcorn smells waaaayyyyy better then it tastes, but sometimes I have to have it for the bucket or sometimes the smell just pulls me in, but it never tastes as good as it smells :sad1:

If we are going to talk desserts, the cookie boat is AMAZING at BB!! A friend tried to tell me how good the BJ's Brewery cookie thing was, and I had one with her and seriously BB had that thing beat hands down! And it comes with a super cute sail and great atmosphere!!!

Really? I love the pazookies at BJs so now you have me curious about the cookie boat at BB. Does the cookie boat have walnuts in it? That would ruin it for me I think.

Oh and I forgot to mention the yummy chocolate chip muffin at the BBR. Yum!

I don't remember any nuts (it would seem silly with all the nut allergies). But seriously with the thickness of the cookie boat, the yummy ice cream, carmel and fudge, and the uber cute sail, the cookie boat was way better then the pazookie in my opinion! But most food tastes a little better with pixie dust as Sherry E says! pixiedust:

Hmmm..... I might have to start thinking about a little trip to the BB one of these days. That sounds really good. It seems like restaurants are always putting walnuts in everything (like brownies, etc) and I just don't care for them. I agree that just being at DL, especially in the BB, probably makes it taste better.

I tell ya, I don't know what it is about that DLR fruit that is so good all around the Resort, but I imagine it has to be sprinkled with some pixie dust because it seems to taste better than fruit in other resorts or restaurants!

Anyway, I don't recall any nuts in the Flying Dutchman cookie boat either. It was all just thick cookie and chocolate and caramel and ice cream, but no nuts. I made the mistake of trying to eat the whole thing by myself, and so it got old fast for me (even though it tasted decadent and great). I think I would definitely enjoy it more if I split it with someone else, which I will probably do next time. And I took the cute sail home - didn't try to eat it because I hear it is not very tasty!

The fruit is especially sprinked with pixie dust when it is in those tarts that they sell at WWS and in the smaller version that has been served at DLH concierge!!!!

Nope, no walnuts in the cookie boat! :) And I agree 10000000% with Fairycat, that cookie boat is sooooooooo good!!!!!!

I haven't seen those tarts yet! I have been wanting to stop in WWS and try a sandwich, so I just may have to mosey on over to look at the the tarts and check them out. If they are freshly made, with that magic DLR fruit - or the "Wonka fruit", as Corpsebride calls it - they MUST be yummy!! Thanks for that tip, Canyon girl!

I have to say that it's hard to buy churros @ DL when you can get bigger & softer ones at Costco for $1!

One of our favorites is the funnel cakes w/ brownie topping:

I wanted to get a funnel cake last time but no one would split it with me! I could never eat one all by myself.

We are now addicted to the peanut brittle. We buy it at Market House when my DH gets his coffee there. I just can't stop eating it!

When I went with my sister, I got the Holiday Brownie at the bakery. I'm sure they have something similar all year, but this one had red and green sprinkles on it. :goodvibes It was very good and not too sweet like some brownies can be.

In the summer we love going to Burr Bank Ice Cream and getting a waffle cone for lunch and relaxing with it.

Costco churros? Better than DL churros?? :rotfl2: NO way. Not at our Costco, they are dry and the cinnamon/sugar doesn't even stick. YUK, no thank you!
