We will be taking our first trip to SS on the 1st full week of January staying in a 2 bedroom Villa (our DVC home is OKW).
I understand it is a very large resort so I was wondering ... what are the best rooms to request and why?

Thanks in advance :)

DH always requests Congress Park. It is the closest walk to DTD, a short walk to the main pool, and has a very nice leisure pool right there. Our room last time was right behind the bus stop.

I'd avoid Carousel, just because it is the most remote and feels that way. If you like that, it's fine. It was just a much longer walk to the main areas.

If you plan to walk to DTD a lot, try for rooms 1101-1436 - they are the closest. We've stayed in building 15 a couple of times and like that location a lot.

I like the upstairs rooms for the balconies. DH likes the patios on the 1st floor (they are open, unlike at OKW). If you get a room facing west, you can see the fireworks at EPCOT!

We LOVE SSR, but we don't mind walking a lot. We used to stay at POR and I felt like I had to walk farther there than at SSR. We walked often to the main pool and Artist's Palette, and I think it took about 5 minutes. The kids loved the slide at the big pool, and DS loved the arcade and community hall. We also walked to DTD often, and enjoyed the walk.

We also LOVE OKW, and I think it feels just as spread-out. Have fun! :goodvibes

Congress Park is close to DTD and you can request a DTD view. The Springs section is across the street from the main pool, Carriage House, community hall, restaurants, etc. If you are using WDW transportation, the Springs is the last bus stop for pick up/drop off. This obviously won't matter if you have a car. The Grandstand section is also close to the main pool/Carriage House area (request 1 of 2 buildings that are near the Grandstand pool - they are the closest). The GS's quiet pool has a water/splash area which our kids loved. This section is the first stop on the bus route - a major plus in IMO. It was a 5 minute walk to the main building. There is also a walkway near the GS section to the West Side of DTD. We stayed in the Grandstand section last August and loved it. The Paddock and Carousel sections are the farthest away but one of the sections has a quiet pool and I believe the playground area is close to those sections.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi, we will be taking our first trip to SSR in Feb 09! I am also trying to decide which area to request. Are all the rooms decorated exactly the same? Which section is the newest? We will have 2 4yr olds and a 10 month old so being near a bus stop would be ideal. I have heard good and bad reviews of the buses so we may end up taking our car in lieu of the buses. Would love to hear everyone's opinions too!:)

I must vote for the Grandstand area and request the two buildings next to the Grandstand pool. We were in 8411 and it was perfect. We had a short walk to the main area, the refillable mug station at the pool was close and handy and we were the first bus stop. Congress Park would be my next choice followed by the Paddocks. Springs is actually my least favorite because it is the last bus stop. Carousel is the second stop.

Thanks to all for your quick replies and great info!
We are very anxious to visiting a new "home".
:yay:

We just got back. I had requested the springs because my FIL was going and is disabled. At check in it was not available. We got in the Paddock. I was really worried that it would be to far. It turned out GREAT! We were in rooms 5121(2 bedroom) and 5112(accessable studio). We made a quick walk over the walking bridge and were at the main pool and Artist Palette in just minutes. I loved the feel of being away fromit but close enogh to go to the pool everyday with the kids. We were also right by the quiet pool, but only used it once as the kids loved te main pool slide!

Glad to hear you had a good stay at SSR! We will be staying there feb 09. Would love to see photos if you took any!!:)
