Hey EVERYONE!

We are taking a trip in January and currently staying in the Poly. We decided to add one day to our trip (more time in Disney is always better) which is going to be SSR 1BR. Right now it will be for 1 night but we might change it to a few.

My question!
What is the best request for a STANDARD room if we want to be closer to walk to the Springs and also have a good location for bus pick up for the parks?
We are rope droppers and I have heard sometimes SSR buses are full before the last stop or two. I know the preferred rooms get you the closet to the Springs.

Thanks Disney People!!

The best section for theme park buses is the Grandstand as that's the first stop for them. It's also close to the Carriage House (check in/main dining) and there is a walkway from that area to goes over to DS by House of Blues.

Paddock building 65 would put you very close to Congress Park which is close to the walkway to the Marketplace. It would be closer to the Congress Park bus stop which is the 4th stop within SSR for theme park buses.

I would also recommend the Grandstand, it's what we request. Particularly Bldg 8500

Just curious-you people who request the Grandstand area. How often does your request get granted? That seems as if it would be a popular area.

I think I've gotten my request for Grandstand all but many once. I believe Paddock is also a popular request.

We’ve had our request honored every time for the Grandstand. We requested the Paddock in May and received that as well. I feel like SSR is pretty good about general requests, more specific requests I can’t comment on because we don’t make them.

I am not sure how I feel about being the first stop just because with a 4 and 1 year old that adds a lot of bus time. I would be guessing about 20 minutes of internal stops? I have never stayed at SSR so know very little.

Friday we will arrive around 3pm to the resort and plan to walk right to DS to shop and have dinner. Saturday we will probably do HS since it is closer.

We always request the Paddock. It's a nice mix of location and transport (though we always drive, so it doesn't affect us as much). We don't tend to request the Grandstand because while the two buildings closer to the Carriage House are nice, I've been stuck out in one of the other two buildings and did not care for that location at all.

In the Paddock, I'm pretty much good with any of the 5 buildings, though I prefer the two next to the Paddock pool.

I almost always stay preferred, as I strongly prefer Congress Park for the access to DS. However, if I do stay standard, I try to request Paddock building 65 which is right next to Congress Park bus stop - and right across the street making it easy to walk to DS as well - the walk to DS from that building is nearly the same as it is from Congress Park's building 4.

I have stayed in Grandstand before as well - it's close to the main building and boat dock, and is the first bus stop so it has some advantages - but in the end, walkability to DS is still something I prioritize so I'd go with paddock and request that last building only. Many who book Paddock prefer to be close to the pools, so it's generally not too hard to insist on a room in the 65xx building.

If you ask for Paddock near the pool, you are just a walk/bridge away from the “Springs” section of SSR. If by “Springs” you actually mean Disney Springs, then the Congress Park section is great to walk to DS. I have asked and gotten SV there with a pine tree in the way of the view so they definitely have SV there.

We just stayed in grandstand building 8500. The walk to DS took 12 mins (with a 9 year old in tow). It was very close to the main pool and lobby as well.

The internal bus loop took around 10 mins before it left the resort… slightly annoying but great when you are the first stop on the way home!

There are no standard rooms in congress park last time I checked… maybe you were upgraded to preferred view 😊

At SSR, Standard and Preferred are booking categories that refer to neighborhoods or sections, not views. Standard = Grandstand, Carousel, Paddock; Preferred = Congress Park, Springs.

Did you have Standard booked? If so, a villa in Congress Park means you were upgraded to Preferred, as @JackosinDIS suggests. If you had Preferred booked and requested a "standard view," maybe they gave you the view of a tree knowing that many people would complain that it wasn't a "preferred view"! :cutie:

Only stayed there once so far, but we stayed during a pretty busy spring break week and rope dropping getting a bus 1.5 hours before open we were usually the only ones on the bus. We were in paddock so only had 2 stops after, but its going to be no where near 20 mins, unless you get unlucky and have scooters that have to get on. Its a pretty fast loop really.

If you are going to do any pool time, I'd pick paddock. You can walk to the boat launch in ~10 mins from paddock and take it over to DS, its a nice ride.

Edit - forgot to add why paddock pool, it has a fantastic kids play area that the 4 and 1 year old will love. Has a good slide in the main pool as well that 4 year old will also like I bet, as well as you, I loved it.

Well gee…I knew that. Sorry to be confusing. If one stays in the farthest Paddock building, you are very close to the walkway to DS without needing the Preferred view. Just cross the street to the Congress Park bus stop and head back by the pool and onto the walkway.

One other thing to mention, is that learning how to use the bus system as an internal way of getting around Saratoga Springs is very important. For instance, back in May we were in the paddock building closest to the carousel bus stop, but it was still easy to get to Disney Springs because you could just take any park bus two stops over to Congress Park and walk from there

For those of you who walk over to Disney Springs do you travel to WDW in the summer months? We travel in August, and I have always figured when we stay at SSR we most likely would not walk but take the boat. Very similar how we handled staying at BLT- we took the monorail to MK and when we stayed at BWV we took the boat to Epcot and HS.

We never travel to WDW in the summer so walking to DS is usually an enjoyable experience. Totally hear you that summer strolls in the ultra heat are totally different.
