I am going to give both of my DD's a DS (one a Lite and one a DSI), and I need to also give them a case to protect it from drops and bumps. I searched Amazon and Ebay and there are both hard and soft cases for each. Can anyone please recommend a case that works, and fits, each well? Thanks!

Be careful when getting a hard case for the DSi. The DSi is a little bigger than the DS Lite and does not fit into hard cases for the DS Lite. I do not think a hard case has been made for the DSi yet. I bought my son the portfolio kind of case for his DSi and he gave the hard case I bought at BJ's that did not fit is DSi to his cousin who has a DS Lite.

My kids have this one for their DSs:
http://www.amazon.com/DS-Lite-Dura-..._7?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242146890&sr=8-7

It's worked pretty well. It only holds 6 or so games (plus the one in the DS). DD dropped hers so often the hinges actually broke finally (she dropped it constantly onto concrete, I'm just glad we had the case). The major advantage for this one for us is it's a nice size and easy to tuck in the back pocket on the seat of the car (like behind where the driver sits, kwim).

We have one made by Nerf, it was recommended by the person at Gamestop and it has been put to good use a few times.

After one casualty I would not go without Nerf armor for my young daughters.

Actually my daughter and I both have DSi's and we both have cases..they are made for the DSi by nintendo it goes over it and can remain on the DSi while your playing, the best part is it has a little drawer that can hold 3 games and it slides out of the bottom of the DSi..

Here is one example

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9232902&type=product&id=1218064393270

That one doesn't have the drawer..I think I got ours from Gamestop..

But there are plenty of accessories out there for both. They had accessories for the DSi's the same day they hit the market..I wouldn't let my daughter touch hers without a cover.

I got DD5 the nerf one. So glad that I did - the first day she had it she dropped it getting out of the van. The ds hit the garage floor hard. Thankgoodness no damage with the nerf cover.

I have a case that is nylon and has picture of Mario on the front. It is zippered and the DS can be played while it is still in the case, so you don't lose any of it. It also has a back zippered compartment to hold games. I like it... It was about $10 at Best Buy. Here it is from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-L..._3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242193452&sr=8-3

It comes in a few different colors (with or without characters). My husband has a plain black one and I've also seen it in pink and white, as well as a light blue or a grey one with Mario.

I would recommend something with storage for games since they are small, expensive, and easily lost. A case that remains on when you play it is good so the case isn't lost or forgotten (or you take an empty case home and forget the actual DS somewhere).

Also, you may want to consider giving each child the same model... It may cause conflict for one to get the "old" style Lite and one to get the "new" DSi one (unless they specifically wanted a Lite and the other wants a DSi).

DD5 also has the Nerf case for her DS lite - it has saved it from many drops!!! I think it was $10 or $12 at Target.

Another vote for nerf.

We've been through the zippered cases (they never, ever put them back in), the lanyards connected to the DS (always dropped them the one time they forgot to put it around their neck), and the thin cases (useless) and the nerfs are seriously heavy duty.

My DD's hate theirs, though, because it makes the DS's thicker. I told them, do you want a fat DS or a broken one? :thumbsup2

Two more :thumbsup2 for Nerf. Both my girls have them. they fit great, no problems reaching buttons, stylus, recharging port, etc. Wouldn't go anywhere without the nerf armor. We got ours at Game Stop.

Nerf here too. Although we were only able to find white and it's now peeling off (purchased after Christmas)

My daughters each have the Nerf protective cover for their DS and they have been wonderful. Many drops later and still no issues.

Definitely the Nerf ones.

Do NOT get the "gloves" or whatever these awful flimsy things were. Those things constantly slipped off or got in the way. I took them off both of ours within a week.

Speaking of Nerf Armor cases, has anyone seen a pink one for the DS lite? Supposedly they're available, but I've been to every Target, Walmart, Best Buy and game store I can think of in our local area to no avail? I'll settle for light blue (I can find those) but my DD really wants pink. :wizard:

DD,9, has a hard plastic cutesy case. This is fine because she is really careful with her DS.

DS,5, has the nerf case. Thank goodness because he has dropped it a couple of times. We got him a black case. It hides all of the ball field dirt. :thumbsup2

I vote for the Nerf to for the DS lite. As of now there is not a Nerf case for the DSi... I will for sure to getting one when they do begin to make those. :rolleyes1
