Best prediction for the opening week of Galaxy's Edge

We’re hoping it’s mid November because we booked Thanksgiving week. If it’s December we’re moving our trip to February or March 2020.

Opening for Pandora was announced February 7 for a May 27 opening, and FP opened around 45 days in advance because it was after my 60 day FP window.

We were originally planning a December '19 trip but now pushing it to February 2020, also.

Everything I've heard is pointing to mid- or late-december, but as everyone has said previously there's honestly no way to know until they officially announce the openings (which I'm thinking will be sometime in August, based on the lead time they gave us for Toy Story Land). Once DL opens we might be able to speculate whether it will happen earlier vs later, but given the scope of the project and the number of things out of their control that could affect the timeline, I wouldn't bank on knowing anything for sure until late summer.

Honestly if it was that important to me to be there right on opening day, I'd be making arrangements at off site hotels that didn't require payment up front to ensure I had a place to stay on any given week of December. DVC requires too long a lead time for planning on a date that isn't set in stone.

We probably won't know for sure until 4-5 months out. (They announced the opening of Toy Story Land back in what? late January/early February? So about 5 months in advance?)

So I expect an exact date sometime in July to August.

My AP ends Nov. 11, 2019 - if the opening date is ANY time before that, I'll be making an impromptu (adults-only) trip down there to check it out. Crowds aren't a huge issue if you don't have little ones in tow. If I miss the opening date . .may wait until late 2020 or early 2021 to go again.

With the "late fall" announcement, I would expect it to open sometime in December.

If Murphy’s Law has anything to do with it, it will fall somewhere between December 10th and 21st, since I already have a reservation for those dates and no desire to go to SWGE for a long while after it opens. I am a casual fan of the initial three movies, but not really a fan of the later movies. So I can be patient.

At this point I'm not even sure if the Disney execs know as an abnormal rainy season or a hurricane could delay things

Episode IX opens 12/20 which is also the last day of fall so I would guess soft opens/preview events at or around Thanksgiving with a grand opening/galactic nights hard ticket surrounding the movie release (and Disneyland opening or cold opening at D23)

Not what you’re looking for but I think the crowd level will be an 11 that day. 10 the max if they announce it with no heads up

I seriously don't think it will be on any crowd level scale we have seen in the past. The line to get in will probably start at the International Gateway

When Harry Potter opened at Universal the line backed all the way up to City Walk and people waited in line up to 8 hours just to enter the park
I survived Potter a month after it opened. I’m using that experience to NOT visit mgm within the first 6 months of Galaxy’s Edges opening

Everyone thought Toy Story Land would be Memorial Day weekend this year. Didn’t end up until June 30th with no soft openings. Was lucky enough to be there, we got to the park around 5:30am, opened at 6:00 and were on Slinky Dog by 7:00. It was my friend’s birthday, the reason for the trip, and was memorable. Planning Dec 1 to 7 next year, we’ll see.

I'm looking for your input on a best guess of the opening week of Galaxy's Edge. I would really like to go for opening week, and I will be renting DVC points from someone to stay at BCV. It's important to me to stay at BCV because of it's proximity to HS and Epcot, and because I know someone who I can rent from at 11 months out.

I'm looking for your best predictions, or input, or information on when it will open. I kind of only have one shot to book a week. Because I know when it does get officially announced, the rooms will book up fast, but the BCV rooms will probably already be booked before the announcement, so I need to book at 11 months. Unless something official comes out soon, it's going to be a best educated guess type thing. The person I know would be willing to move the dates around but I'm not banking on being able to once the dates are officially announced. Staying at BCV is as important to me as going to SWGE is.

Only things I know:
  • It says "late fall" which can be through mid-December.
  • There's been a mention of November 11 because of something mentioned on twitter but it was just a mention so idk how much stock I should put into this, it seems odd to me that it would be a Monday (maybe that's not weird?) but it's also a holiday (maybe that's not weird either?). Some people also thought maybe it's a soft opening thing, but I want to be there for the official opening.
I don't want to undershoot it, however. I would rather go after it opens than before because my purpose for going to SWGE. I want to go to it, and if I'm too nervous about it, I'll probably book for December 14-21. But I'd rather do any other week before that in the fall, and I'd rather go for opening week.

Thanks for your input!
PP are negative.
You want BCV opening week for SWGE. Book a checkin dat of November 1 with a check out December 31. Excellent shot of hitting opening week.

The biggest reason why I want to stay at BCV is to be able to walk to DHS. I can only imagine similar, if not, worse crowds for Galaxy's Edge in comparison to Harry Potter and I think eliminating transportation issues is huge. I can walk to 2 parks, and monorail to another if I have to so if WDW becomes a traffic nightmare, I should be able to get around better than most.

Also consider Boardwalk Villas, Yacht Club or even better, Swan/Dolphin. All in the same area and walking distance to both Epcot and HS

If I were making a booking that cannot be easily changed, I would book for 2020.

If allowed, the line to get into GE will be days or weeks, not hours. I'm sure disney will have to figure out how to stop people from camping out outside of DHS

To keep it sane, at least for the first few months Disney should use FP to control access to the land, so anyone wanting to enter GE would need to have a FP for one of the rides or a GE-access FP. The GE-access FPs could be distributed quite generously and would be much easier to obtain than ride FPs, but would keep the number of people manageable.

Its not so easy as that...a FP for a ride means a patron will enter at a specified time slot, and leave that ride at a time approximately 20-30 mins later after they have gone through the shortened queue and ride. Entering a land could have someone stay there for 1 hour or the entire day. That makes it difficult to offer access FP's as someone may enter at a designated time and stay for as long as they want. The only way to control crowds will be to limit access to the area, and make it known well in advance that there will be no queue for entry into GE. Perhaps a limit to WDW Resort guests for weekends, DVC/Annual Pass Holders on Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Mondays a hard ticket day. (This is my take on it, It has not been leaked by Disney and I'm just throughing out some examples)

I suspect (and the "narrow" entrance to the land should help this) that they will just use the Grand Avenue as an entrance and Toy Story Land as an exit for awhile to help traffic flow through the land. Toy Story Land is already way too crowded/narrow . .I can't imagine how crowded it will get with people just walking through those narrow walkways just to go INTO SWGE . it will be a mess.

They may also simply have to restrict access in there. I'd think the best way to handle it is to give all park guests a time they can enter the land and just distribute that throughout the day (just how you can enter a special exhibit at a museum only at a certain time). The problem still comes with how to handle Fast Passes.

Maybe they make NO standby line available for the rides (thus increasing the number of FPs that are available) and you can only enter the land during the hour of your FP window.
