I'm looking for your input on a best guess of the opening week of Galaxy's Edge. I would really like to go for opening week, and I will be renting DVC points from someone to stay at BCV. It's important to me to stay at BCV because of it's proximity to HS and Epcot, and because I know someone who I can rent from at 11 months out.

I'm looking for your best predictions, or input, or information on when it will open. I kind of only have one shot to book a week. Because I know when it does get officially announced, the rooms will book up fast, but the BCV rooms will probably already be booked before the announcement, so I need to book at 11 months. Unless something official comes out soon, it's going to be a best educated guess type thing. The person I know would be willing to move the dates around but I'm not banking on being able to once the dates are officially announced. Staying at BCV is as important to me as going to SWGE is.

Only things I know:
  • It says "late fall" which can be through mid-December.
  • There's been a mention of November 11 because of something mentioned on twitter but it was just a mention so idk how much stock I should put into this, it seems odd to me that it would be a Monday (maybe that's not weird?) but it's also a holiday (maybe that's not weird either?). Some people also thought maybe it's a soft opening thing, but I want to be there for the official opening.
I don't want to undershoot it, however. I would rather go after it opens than before because my purpose for going to SWGE. I want to go to it, and if I'm too nervous about it, I'll probably book for December 14-21. But I'd rather do any other week before that in the fall, and I'd rather go for opening week.

Thanks for your input!

1) Disney changed the "late fall" to just "fall" this weekend at Destination D.
2) We can't really tell you.
3) Rumors are swirling of mid-November to mid-December, but that can always change.
4) If you want to go to SW:GE and that is important to you, I would book for 2019 to be safer. The land could get delayed for any reason.

Is it crazy that I think it's weird they might open it on December 20 (end of fall)? That just seems like they would try not to do that since it's they busy af season.

Ideally, I'd crapshoot book for November 18-25 with Thanksgiving being November 28 next year. Is that too risky to be too early?

Has anyone heard anything more about November 11?

The only thing I'm going on is when New Fantasyland opened.
Its official opening was December 6th.
Soft opening started around Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving was the first day BOG was open.
So my guess for Star Wars "late fall" would be soft opening in November and grand opening in the first week or so of December.

New Fantasyland was a phased opening. The entire thing didn't open at once like this will.

Soft openings may have been in phases but the grand opening was at once.
So as I said a soft opening for Star Wars could be in November but grand in December

Um... Are we sure we are talking about the same thing? Storybook Circus opened by itself first. Then the BoG/Belle/Ariel area, and finally Mine Train. All different phased openings. There was no single grand opening.

So I'd say technically we are both correct.
There was a grand opening in December 2012 but not every attraction was included since not every attraction was complete.

Still a phased opening. In that it states Storybook Circus opening in July. The next piece in December, and the final attraction Mine Train in May 2014.

True so really we are both right because it was technically the grand opening as I said but phased as you said.

My point is that my guess for the OP is soft opening in November and grand opening in December like it was for what I will now say was PART of New Fantasyland.

As someone who goes every year at Thanksgiving, I pushed our trip in 2019 to Christmas. As of right now, my best guess is soft openings in early December, with land opening either the 7th or the 14th. It's too far out for them to give a firm date. I would not expect to hear one until D23.

You are right... it is a complete crapshoot. DVC bookings are tricky because you are "locked in" 11months out. My suggestion if you are going for grand opening or die would be to buy trip insurance and then make 2-3 other cancellable bookings that you can drop if need be. I also want to be there for the opening (but not necessarily the grand opening) so I will likely book 2 or 3 bookings that I can cancel.
The change from late-fall to fall shows that they may be gaining ground but a rainy summer/ fall or a hurricane can throw a wrench in the works.

Just for context they originally wanted to open in summer at the same time as DL, but this past summer and spring we had a lot more rain here in the deep south than normal.

I would pick out bookings for late November, mid December, and late Dec/ early Jan and hope for the best. Go ahead and get those date-based tickets for the most expensive date in your range assuming that once Disney announces they will increase the price and you can "adjust" you ticket date if needed.

As far as my completely speculative guess... I think Disney really wants to avoid opening right at Christmas (imagine the already huge crowds... it would be a true PR nightmare) Everyone on a school/ work break would show up and they would have to turn people away.

Im sure Disney would love an early November opening in between Halloween and Thanksgiving to add another event to the calendar. Realistically, I could see their backup dates being Thanksgiving and then Early December. They are going to be doing everything in their power to avoid pushing the opening to 2020 since they already announced Fall 2019.

If you want to be there for opening day, then it would be a HUGE crap shoot to pick the week 11 months out, odds are better then not that you would be wrong. If instead you are just trying to go once it's open, then the latest possible week in the year would be best, but still not a guarantee.

We’re hoping it’s mid November because we booked Thanksgiving week. If it’s December we’re moving our trip to February or March 2020.

Opening for Pandora was announced February 7 for a May 27 opening, and FP opened around 45 days in advance because it was after my 60 day FP window.

I would think it will depend on the completion and opening of the the one in Disneyland.
I would think that the ride systems require some of the same crew working on that one, so once it's done out there they will turn to the one here.
