I know there was a thread awhile back but I cannot find it. And the photography board is a little too advanced for what I am looking for. My Point and Shoot camera went belly up. It was a Sony Cybershot. I am in the market to buy a new camera.

What does everyone use and love?

You should ask this on the photo board, Yes there are a lot of folks that use advanced stuff, but they have a wealth of information, and are more than happy to offer advise.

The standard questions will apply.
1. Budget
2. What type of shooting do you do. ie Low light, sports, nature etc
3. What did you like or dislike about your last camera.
4. What are your size requirements.

With that information, you'll get better suggestions.

I think that thread was on the Theme Park board (I knew I should've saved the link!!)

I was in the minority of LOVING my Canon Power shot - I prefer the S series (slimmer model) because of the rechargeable battery the A series means it takes AA Batteries (that can also be recharged, but I like the slimmer one)

I had the first 2mgp camera and LOVED it, the only reason I asked to be upgraded was the battery was only holding a charge of 2 hours (and I had this cameara over 5 years and I use it ALL THE TIME, including taking videos - I love it!!)

I just point and shoot, I know I should figure out how to use the different settings to get better firework pictures, but I like the pictures I have!!

My mom needs a new camera, she is getting a replacement every year or two - and she stays with the Kodak!

Wow. I totally didn't think of those things.

1. I would like it to cost about $375 or less.

2. With my DD in Dance we do a lot of action-esque shots and indoor photos but I would also like something that can take decent pictures of things like fireworks (Wishes anyone?)

3. I loved the Charging system and mine did really good video which was nice but I guess I don't need. I might have to bite the bullet and buy a video camera too. What I hated about it was the swing out arm (The reason it broke) and the settings were hard to use.

4. Size I dont care about. Small enough that it fits in a purse and its fine.

Another thumbs up for any of the Canon Power Shots. My brother has had the A95 for years, and his family is very rough with it, no problems. I have the A610 & LOVE IT. The pictures are so crisp & clear, I've already had some blown up into 11 x 14 & framed to hang in the house, they look like professional prints. It has all the bells & whistles as far as settings, but I rarely use them.

Take a look at this Fuji
It has a larger sensor than most P&S cameras and will help you with the low light action of a Dance Recital.

The other I would look at would be the Cannon S5IS.

Both of these can easily be used as P&S cameras but also have some room to grow with manual controls should you choose to learn a little more about it. Neither is a pocket camera, but will fit in your purse or a small case, and both are within your budget.

For fireworks, get yourself a pocket tripod and set it up on one of the convieniently supplied flat garbage cans. They only cost about 10 bucks or so.

and I just point and shot each of these - with the canon

Thanks for the link - a lot of great mentions for the lumix camera
Panasonic Lumix. I have the DMC-FX07 but most of the newer versions have 6x - 10x optical zoom capabilities. The camera uses SD and also SD high capacity cards. So I have a 4GB SDHC card which allows for about 1300 pictures at 7.1 MP at the 4:3 aspect ratio to be stored on the single card. The battery charges via th ac charger (provided) in about an hour and pretty much lasts long enough to just about fill the card .

You also have the ability to change image sizes which allows for wide screen picture taking.

4:3 Aspect Ratio
3:2 Aspect Ratio
16:9 Aspect Ratio

They all have image stabilization and some really easy to use scene settings. These come in handy for fireworks and night shots.

• Portrait
• Soft Skin
• Scenery
• Sports
• Night Portrait
• Night Scenery
• Self-portrait
• Food
• Party
• Candle
• Fireworks
• Starry Sky
• Baby1/2
• Snow
• High Sensitivity
• Underwater
• Aerial photo
• Beach

I have this and I LOVE it!
Nikon coolpix S200(in red)

The pictures are fantastic and it's so tiny I always have it with me. I LOVE it. I don't think they make it anymore. It is 7 megapixals and that's fine for me. I am thinking it is similar to the S210? This is my everyday camera- I do have a higher quality Nikon that I use when I want very high quality. But honestly the quality of my little one is almost just as good and the price on that camera is a whole lot cheaper.

Try them out in your hand. This one is so lightweight and easy to carry around.

I bought the Lumix TZ5 and I LOVE it!!!!! Great pictures. A little heavier and bigger than my Pentax but the zoom is well worth it!

Thanks for the info Pooh's friend - and...

CONGRATULATIONS :cool1: have fun on your Disneymoon!! :wizard:

www.dpreview.com is one of several sites that reviews digital cameras. lots of info. There are several more. I can't recall them now but someone on the photo board will know.
