Best place to watch WOC from?

I love watching WOC but I’m short and find the lamp posts always get in my way. Where do you recommend getting the clearest non obstructed view? What area should I stand in? The different levels in that area always confuse me.

I usually join the Virtual Queue, should I?

Only looking for free options, have done the dessert party before.

In my opinion, unless you are doing the dessert party, always join the VQ because it allows the most flexibility.

Can't help with the best places because I haven't tried to watch other than the Dessert Party in many many years.

The bridge near Lamplight Lounge can be a good place but I'm not sure how early you would need to get there for that spot. Also, some people watch from the Lamplight Lounge patio, you just need to time your reservation right. I should say, last year I asked about watching from the patio and some people love it while others say it wasn't a great view. I ended up doing the dessert party again but if I hadn't I would have done Lamplight Lounge.

Back in the day I would just stand near the Ariel ride to watch but I don't know if that's allowed now.

It's kind of a no lose situation. Enter the Virtual Queue when it opens during the day, which is free. There's lots of different viewing options within the viewing area. Otherwise, there's some spots outside the viewing areas such as by Little Mermaid or on the bridge to Pixar Pier.

My favorite spot that is easy access was a DIS board tip years ago that still works. The "fire hydrant spot." It's near the top of the viewing area, basically behind the dessert party area. (See the attached screenshot with the yellow line) It's right after you enter the viewing area from the east (blue lights?) and has a green fire hydrant in the plants in front of it. Scope it out during the day to locate it. If you arrive early enough (or for the second show) you can get a spot at the railing that is unobstructed -- we had younger kids with us the first time we used it. It's only slightly off-center, and the bonus is that you can leave the area quickly afterward.
