Returned a week ago from a 2 weeks stay at WDW (9 nights Music and 5 nights Beach Club)

The hotels were lovely and even the bad weather in the first week was the least of my worries. I had an accident at Blizzard Beach which I would like to bring to the attention of a Manager within Disney.

It was our 3rd day and first ride at BB (park had just opened) - Teamboat Springs and the CM put us in with another family of three - 2 adults and a little girl. The little girl was very upset on the ride and her dad let go of the straps that you hold onto to keep hold of the child and all was well until almost the end of the ride when the man's knee came up and whacked me in the eye - blood started gushing out of my eyebow and I had to be taken to a medical centre in Kissimmee - we had to pay $482 dollars for stitches and we were waiting in there most of the day - the resulting bruising and swelling was awful. I then had to go back to have the stitches removed wasting another half day.

I really felt that the holiday had been ruined due to no fault of our own as I had been holding on tightly the whole of the ride. I have filled in my insurance claim forms today but there is a sizable excess to pay. I would like to bring the matter to Disney's attention as this could have been really serious if it had been a child involved. Do you have the address or e-mail - I feel if I just e-mail then it will just be a member of an admin team picking this up and I want to direct this to the correct person.

Thanks

I don't have an address but if you have a look on the Theme Park Attraction and Strategies board there's usually a couple of thread about complaints and addresses to write to or email.

Your accident sounds nasty - hope you're feeling better!

If I understand what you are saying - you were injured by another guest.

What do you expect Disney to do exactly ?

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I don't really see what Disney can do though, it was the mans fault not theirs, if people don't follow safety advice on most rides then there is the risk of accidents, its just unfortunate that it was you that got hurt when you weren't the one who did anything. :headache:

Sorry that this happened to you. I would imagine that Disney have the address of the other person involved in the incident, assuming he gave his details?

If they dont assist I am sure you can put it forward to the person who caused it - why should you be out of pocket!!!!!

Unfortunately - the man and his family disappeared after the incident - what I expect Disney to do about it is not to pile other families onto the raft ride with you - especially if they don't understand basic safety instructions - thanks for your sympathy red snapper!

I hope you spoke to a manager at the time as things are usually better sorted out staightaway.

Anyway wdw.guest.communications@disney.com is the email for correspondance.

Just out of interest how many where there in your group for the raft ride? I only asked as we were a couple and had been on on our own before but last time they said we couldn't go just 2 as it had to be 3 or more so put us in with another family (mum & son).

I'm sorry you got hurt.

But I was going to say the same. As long as the raft wasn't holding more people than it should, Disney isn't at fault. If each family got a raft all to themselves, can you imagine the lines for the rides?

actually it sounds to me as if you should be suing disney for this..

unfortunately, with disney, you usually have to complain immediately to get action (some time during your trip)...
once you're home, it's almost impossible to get a response from them (unless you sue - kind of hard to do from across the atlantic)..

this was most definitely an actionable event...in the US that is.....

what you should have done was while on your trip, go to the park manager of BB with your medical care receipt, showing what you'd spent...
chances are the BB park manager would have reimubursed you on the spot, in exchange for a waiver from you regarding any litigation...
he/she might have also given you some sort of token gift in addition to the reimbursement..

had the head of BB not been forthcoming, you could have taken it higher to his/her boss...

however, most likely, it would have been handled at the BB level...

unfortunately, once your vacation is over, disney is MUCH less forthcoming with reimbursements or even apologies.

i would still write to them, including copies of your receipts (and any pictures if you have them)..

i doubt you'll get anything in return...possibly not even an acknowledgement..

they're well known for how accomodating they are when you're there, and how completely unresponsive they are once you're gone...

So Five people were in the raft, the raft was safe to use, the raft wasn't overloaded.

The man was at fault, but he was looking after his upset child and accidentally hit you.

I'm sorry for your injury, but you should have spoke up at the time, took the mans details and raised the issue immediatly wth Disney.

Sometimes if you ask a question, you have to be prepared for the answer unfortuantly.

I'm sorry you were hurt and it spoiled some of your holiday but it sounds like an accident to me.

On the same raft ride at the end I was kicked by another guest and I limped for the rest of the day, it could have easily have been my DF who did it to me though, accidents happen.

Sorry you was injured,sounds painful.
But I do have to agree with other's if the raft wasn't overloaded, etc and the man let go to tend to his child then it sadly was an accident.
You can still raise the issue with Disney but not sure you would get anywhere.

I think the problem you have is that you should have taken it up with Disney at the time, although I would still contact them to let them know what happened. I think they did have some responsibility as they put you in the situation where this could happen but it needed to be dealt with at the time.

I haven't been to BB for a while but when we did this ride we were able to do it with just the two of us. I am not sure I would want to do it with strangers as I am not confident in water and wouldn't like to get in with boisterous people as I would start to panic.

Hope you are okay now and get it sorted.

The best Disney will do is pay the medical expences. After all it was the other guest who caused the accident not a Disney mistake.

im with everyone else on this one, accidents happen and i dont think Disney can do anything for you. im sorry that you were injured xx

:rotfl: I'm sure if the OP had posted that in a non-uk section of the site the majority of people would have agreed with you! - and the OP would have probably got a settlement (probably very small though) from it.

However, as most have said - it actually sounds like just an accident.

I'm not sure what getting the guys details would have achieved? Unless we're talking about taking this to a whole new level and claiming it was an assult?
