Wondering if anyone can help us out with this decision,we will be @ Hollywood studios on our 4th day and could not get fantasmic ressie,so we made a dinner only adr @ mama melrose ,there was also availability @ hollywood & vine, DH and I have eaten there before without the kids, just ok for me,DH liked it more.Have never eaten @ Mama melrose, does anyone have a recent experience there that you can share? or maybe can suggest another place altogether that we would enjoy with the kids 14& 4 ?
clock is ticking to get in somewhere??Omg I still haven't packed a thing!!

50's Prime Time Cafe is my favorite restaurant in all the World. Pot roast, fried chicken, it's all so good. Basic American comfort food in a Mom's house setting, complete with cousins serving and helping you work on your manners.:rolleyes1
We were able to change our PTC ADR about 6 weeks in advance last December, but could only get a 3:15 sitting. It can be a tough get.

The Hollywood Brown Derby is our favorite at the Studios followed by the 50's Prime Time. Mama Melrose is very overpriced so-so Italian food. Think Olive Garden without the salad and breadsticks. It isn't bad, it just isn't good if you know what I mean. Hollywood & Vine is a Disney buffet - food is kind of generic but OK.

We enjoy the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater for burgers and milkshakes. Plus, it is fun sitting in a car! :)

Brown Derby is our favorite sit down. We also like to go to Sci-Fi, but only for lunch.

50's prime time!!! Every visit that where we head too!! Now, if ya like home cooked food that is! If ya just want counter service, but sitting down, go to sci fi!! Fun for the kids! BUt, ptc has the best value, food, and atmosphere!!:thumbsup2

Love, love, love the 50's PT Cafe.

Thanks guys, prime time seems to be THE place, unfortunately for us they only have a late opening and that would have us eating during the fantasmic show, but I might get lucky,if someone cancels, keeping my fingers crossed.:goodvibes

We were at Mama Melrosd in May and loved it...will definitely be going back! All of the food was good...we weren't expecting much and were pleasantly surprised. It might not be the best Italian food I've ever had but it was good.

We ate at PT in 2007 and I really liked it..DH thought it was ok.

I enjoyed Mama Melrose! I'd say its my favorite restaurant in DHS. Tried Brown Derby last time and just wasn't impressed.

Since you couldn't get the fantasmic package (keep trying, sometimes you get pixie dust if someone cancels) you could try Sci-Fi or 50's prime time which are both fun places to go. If you can't get them, you might consider getting a meal in the Boardwalk area. You can travel there by the friendship boats outside DHS. There are several restuarants there or at any of the EPCOT resorts located there. ESPN club, Flying Fish, Yachtmen Club, Cape May among others.

We particulary enjoyed the Starring Rolls counter service located beside the Brown Derby if you choose not to do a TS.

We're doing 50s PTC and Mama Melrose's

Sci-Fi doesn't interest us so much, we're already doing like four buffet dinners so Hollywood and Vine is out, and Brown Derby is two credits and not many seem to like it so we avoided that too.

Just called again this morning and no cancellations yet, will keep trying up until the day of! We were trying to stay in the park for our meal, especially since we probably will have to wait on that line (FUN)for fantasmic:rolleyes1,so we might end up keeping Mamas or try the epcot or boardwalk places that you suggested. We have cape may for the day before ,but checking others as soon as i pull myself away from these boards:rotfl:

Good luck with your plans. Whatever works out for you I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Also sometimes they do add the 2nd fantasmic show as your dates get closer so if that happens it might be easier for you to see the show.

When we were there last week we did have the dining package, entered the theater about an hour early and all the middle sections were pretty full. The only open areas was the 2 far right sections for dining packages & the opposite 2 far left sections from the dining section.

We high tailed it out of there at the end of the show the same way we came in so I can't comment how congested the general public entrance was for those hoping to see the 2nd show. But if I didn't have the package, seriously I'd be riding RnRC or ToT during the first show & then try to see the 2nd show.

Two more votes. We as a family both loves 50's and Brown Derby. We have eaten at Mama Melrose's and is was ok. I like the idea of taking a Friendship boat to any of the nearby resorts or Epcot and its many resturants.

I would definitely not give up Fantasmic to eat at any of the DHS restaurants. I would stick with Mama Melrose. We enjoyed our meal when we ate there a few years ago. IMHO, Mama Melrose + Fantasmic beats any other restaurant at DHS.
