There's a small hotel called L'Esplanade in the village of Grand Case (on the French side of the island) where we like to stay. All of the rooms have terraces with ocean views, and kitchenettes. It's very quiet and private.

The island is small, it's very easy to drive anywhere. Grand Case has a lovely small beach, (we just walk down a hill from the hotel to the beach). And it's less than a 10 minute drive to Orient Beach, which is GORGEOUS!
And the food -

! Grand Case has tons of wonderful restaurants, mostly French inspired. You can have a four star French meal sitting at a terrace table with a view of the ocean... And do it at a different restaurant every night of the week! Here are descriptions of some of the restaurants there:

And that's just one small town. There's lots of dining in Marigot, and around Simpson Bay, too.
You can take a ferry to Anguilla (gorgeous beaches), or a catamaran to St. Barts (a getaway for rich folks.) There are lots of snorkeling and diving trips, any kind of boating fun you can imagine, horseback on the beach... and shopping.
Hmmm... wonder if I should start working on booking another trip for next summer?
