Best Hotel You've Ever Stayed

The Royal Lahaina in Maui. It is not the most modern or the most luxurious hotel by any means, but it was just so comfortable, the location was absolutely perfect and, most of all, the staff were all so lovely (the housekeeper made me cry when we were checking out!) that I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Don't really think I have ever stayed anywhere that I said this is the best!

When DH and I honeymooned in Hawaii 17 years ago, the time share we stayed at in Hawaii was on the beach and all rooms faced the ocean which was lovely listening to the waves. When we were on the big island, the time share also had ocean views and the sunsets were the best I have ever seen, color wise.

I stayed at some place in California in 1977 when I was 5 1/2 that had dolphins and a candy store, now that was a great hotel! It was also in the water, I think.

A Hilton (I think) in Ocean City Maryland, while the room was average, we walked out to the pool deck from our slider. There was our own table, behind a locked screen when the pool was closed but that was fabulous!

I remember being very pleasantly surprised with our hotel room in Cancun. We thought it was just going to be an average room. When we got in the room there were two floors. The main floor had a living room with full bathroom. There were sliding doors to a private outside area with table and chairs. Upstairs was the bedroom and another full bathroom. The hotel was nice also. It had a few different pools and we had a very nice time. I think because it was so unexpected that it made it special.

Oooh. I have a few that stand out, but for different reasons -

1. Best overall - Hilton Orlando Convention Center. The room was fantastic, the Seaworld view with the Disney Castle and Epcot way off in the distance was so much fun to see, the lobby is beautiful, but OMG...the pool area was absolutely amazing. The kids, DH, and I still wish we were there on a daily basis, and it's been 4 years now!

2. The Westin, Reston VA - maybe it was because it was DH and my first trip alone without kids since they were born (16 years)or maybe not, but that hotel was fantastic in all ways ;)

3. Homewood Suites, Columbus OH - this one is based off of different criteria because it was a work trip, but I had to spend two weeks here last year and it was the best work hotel I've ever used. Beautiful suite with a working kitchen, dedicated workspace, bedroom, sitting room, etc, so you could go from area to area and not feel like you needed to eat dinner on your bed or on top of your laptop on the only tiny table in the room. The complimentary breakfast was varied each day and more than enough choices that I was never bored or felt like I needed to go elsewhere. The free coffee/tea area was also terrific. They held group socials every night if you were bored with either a light dinner, heavy appetizers, and/or drinks. You could buy groceries and cook in the kitchenette, then leave the dishes, etc and the housekeepers would clean everything up the next day. The bed/pillows were super comfortable and the bathroom was better than mine at home by far. Honestly, I got so used to coming "home" from work everyday and everything being so clean and perfect that when I got back to my actual home, even though I missed my family and was glad I was back, I missed the order and tidiness of my suite!

The best one that comes to mind is the Rendezvous in St. Lucia. It was really lovely with great staff.

I have a number, for different reason.

Four Seasons in Atlanta, we had stayed in the Ritz Carlton the year before and were really disappointed so the Four Seasons was like a breath of fresh air.
Jekyll Island Club Resort, this is my all time favorite place to get away to all on my own. The grounds are so peaceful and I feel comfortable getting up at 5 am and jogging (or walking now since I blew out my knees) all by myself. They have two very excellent restaurants and the service is first class all over the resort. I love the history behind it as well. http://www.jekyllclub.com/?NCK=jeky...qAHZc9LMkaOl6azV2Y4zZpTnvrNfkMH9buhoCETzw_wcB
YC at Disney cause it's just home to me.
Palau Pacific Resort in Palau - It's a beautiful resort, great service. True story, when we got there and got to our room I looked at my honey and said "it looks just like the Poly at WDW" he laughed and said "maybe the Poly looks just like this". https://www.palauppr.com/en/about

Kind of a tie. taj mahal palace in Mumbai--have stayed only after the terrorist attacks, never was there before. But, a combination of history, service, and safety. All were present, but at the same time all were perfectly "in the background" so as to be there if needed, but not obstructing anything.

Second would be the peninsula manila--outstanding service, they remember everything, from any prior visit, without having to issue a request, etc., and, again, feel very safe in the hotel -- although the stays there, have likewise, all been after the coup attempts and after the tank that came rolling into the lobby

For some wonderfully strange reason the Fairmont in San Francisco upgraded us to their top floor suite. For no additional cost! This suite was huge; bigger than our house at the time. This suite had two big living areas, a big room size foyer, two separate bathrooms, and two separate dressing rooms. The best thing was that we had a 180 degree view of San Francisco from the top of Knob Hill. The suite was so big we had windows facing west, north and east. As an added bonus the concierge got us a table at one of the best restaurants and the hotel kept our small economy rental car parked in a special VIP spot. We could never have afforded to pay for all of that on our own.

I counted 120 steps from my room to the park entrance. Loved staying there, it really felt special.

I loved these two hotels from out 2015 California trip, but both are at opposite ends of the luxury scale:

View from our balcony at Loewes Hotel Santa Monica. To date the most I have spent on a hotel night (and we had two there), especially with the exchange rate at the time. Worth every cent, especially with that view.

Our cabin (with bath) at Curry Village, Yosemite valley. Very basic, but a wonderful two nights there, no technology (phones didn't work in the valley), no wifi, no TV, just family (oh, and some big rocks).

How long ago was this? Curry Village (or whatever it's called now) has WiFi at the lounge for guests. It's not broadcast throughout the place though.

Cell phone service is there, but spotty. My wife needed to make a call and we drove around until it connected. I've actually made a call from the top of Half Dome, and even once in the backcountry.

Park Hyatt Washington DC
Le Chateau Frontenac, Quebec City. It looks like a big castle that overlooks the city. Beautiful place.
I really liked these two as well. We've been fortunate enough to stay in some really lovely hotels... these are all favorites because of their locations (love to walk to major attractions), and a really nice atmosphere without what feels to us like snobbery, I guess. ;)
  • London NYC - New York
  • Hotel Monteleone - French Quarter, NOLA
  • Le Saint-Sulpice - Old Montreal
  • Ritz in Georgetown - DC (in an old industrial building and has a rustic feel... not the shiny Ritz one would typically think of!)
  • Poly bungalows - you-know-where (totally worth the many use-them-or-lose-them DVC points we used)

One that comes to mind was staying at a Marriott in Brooklyn NY. We liked it due to its proximity to the Brooklyn Bridge. Though it was a hot day in August ,we enjoyd walking it.

Nayara Springs in Costa Rica. DH and went there for our 18th wedding anniversary for 2 weeks after he came home from a deployment. The whole property is absolutely stunning and the service was impeccable and incredibly romantic. They did everything they could for us like arranging tours of the rainforest, zip lining, etc. We didn't lift a finger for the entire two weeks...it was pure heaven on earth.

My favorite was the Rome Cavalieri Hilton club level. The whole place was amazing, but what I remember most was that we somehow snagged the balcony seats at the evening snacks and drank wine with the most fabulous view over Rome.

Hmm, luxury-wise, I'd have to say the Intercontinental in Toronto. Stayed there twice when traveling for work. However, as far as experience, I'd probably have to say the Polynesian. Our family stayed there twice in our visits to the World and it has so many great memories for us.

I can't remember the name but for me it was a place in the rain forest with a view of Arenal from the room. Set in the Costa Rican forest. Lots of colorful birds, humming birds and so forth. Not fancy like some in NYC and so forth, but so nice. Much nicer to me. Actually took a boat across Lk. Arenal. Walked up the shore on the far side and an old Indian women would let you use the bathroom and wash your hands for 500 Colones. From there picked up a ride to Monteverde. Such a nice country and people. Several friends have moved there. I wouldn't mind moving their my self some day.
