Best hotel to split park & convention time?

I'll be at a convention in Anaheim in June 2015, and the room blocks were just released. They usually go fast, so I want to reserve mine. The convention is Sunday-Wednesday, so my company will pay for my hotel Saturday-Wednesday in the room block. No Disney hotels, unfortunately, but I'm thinking the Hilton Anaheim may be my best bet to be close to the convention center and then either use the ART or walk to DLR.

I may also fly to LA a day or two early and splurge on 1-2 nights at the Disneyland Hotel. It looks so fun!

Are there other Good Neighbor hotels I should consider for my stay?

I will likely be going to and from the parks by myself, so will walking to and from a hotel be safe, especially after the parks close?

I've only been to DLR once before, and it was just a day trip. I'm excited to be going to a convention so close to the parks, it will be tough to go to the sessions! :)

We will be staying at the Doubletree suites for our upcoming trip. We usually stay at our timeshare but friends are coming with us and we wanted to stay at the same place. Anyway I did a lot of research to find a nice hotel with larger rooms, reasonable price, within 1 mile of DL, and great reviews, so that's how I picked doubletree.

A lot of people like the places that are right across the street from DL. Many of them are motels I believe.

If you can do DLH for a night or two I certainly would. At least that way you could compare personal pros/cons of staying on/off site for future trips!

I took my dd on a trip for just us girls when she was 6 and we made the 1 mile walk to/from DL many times until we discovered the ART. I did feel perfectly safe walking with her and we would close down the parks so it was midnight when we were walking back.

I really like the Hilton next to the convention center.

You will be surrounded by fellow park tourists like yourself. You will be fine. There are some homeless people who snooze on the benches at the bus stops, but they aren't bad people. They just don't have homes. It's OK.

We stayed at the Hilton a couple of years ago and the walk back at night felt like a death march. We were so tired and it was late. Just something to think about. It is much, much further away from the park than the places on Harbor across from the parks (or it felt that way to me). But it is very convenient for the convention center.

If you stay near the convention center, I have read many reports of people using the busses from the Toy Story parking lot to get to and from DL. This might be helpful especially at night if you did not want to trek all the way back by foot.

Thanks for the help, everyone! I think I'll splurge for one night at DLH and make sure I can take advantage of the EMH that next morning, then move over to the Hilton for the rest of my stay. I will have some convention meetings early in the morning, so I'd rather be close to the convention center on those mornings and then either walk or catch a bus if I end up in the parks in the evenings.

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease. Sadly, I'm used to seeing homeless people here in NYC and when I visit my brother in LA. They don't pay any attention to people as long as they're left alone.

I really enjoyed the Hilton. If your boss will allow it, spring for either a Disney view room, or my favorite, a Lanai room!! They are $10 more, but we enjoy them.

It is about a 15-20 min walk. It can seem like forever when you are walking back at night. BUT, there are options. The ART bus drops right at the hotel and is $4 a day. Or, you can ride the Toy Story lot bus and it is free, but it is a 3-5 min walk.
