Disney MGM Studios
Hi everyone, this is my trip report for MGM, this was joint third Favourite Park in WDW (joint with EPCOT). This was the first park that we went to after we got our marriage licence in Kissimmee, I was desperate to visit a park after being in WDW for 24hours and not being to one yet. We were about to set off to MGM when the heavens gates opened and we experience our first Florida thunderstorm. It was beautiful, the rain was so big and it hit the ground with such force, I just stood at my window and watched people running trying to escape the rain, though many had Disney ponchos on and seemed totally unfazed by the rain. After about half an hour the rain was still pouring I was now becoming quite frustrated by it now (I soon learnt that the rain should not stop you from doing anything but we didn’t really fully understand everything and didn’t fancy walking around MGM soaked). About another half an hour later the rain finally stopped so we ran to the bus stop and waited for the bus. Once we arrived at MGM we had the Disney buzz and really didn’t know where to go first. We headed towards the information centre and grabbed a leaflet and decided where to go, we headed towards ToT. When we got there Mark decided that he didn’t want to ride though this was unsurprising as he isn’t a big ride fan but as it had got hot he decided to wait for me and have a drink break whilst I went on the ride. I was so excited as I read so much about the ride but I was nervous riding it by myself. Though I was very lucky as a lovely American couple spoke to me in the queue and put me at ease. When it came to my turn I was separated from the couple but that didn’t matter the ride was great! I enjoyed the plot for the ride though was totally surprised for drop. I lifted out of my seat and screamed all the way down…and up…and back down again! I grabbed the hand of the poor person next to me forgetting I wasn’t with mark oooops! I came of the ride feeling really exhilarated, the couple had hung around to see how I got on which was really sweet, after I said my goodbyes and ran back to see Mark. He had been studying the park map and had suggested going to see Jim Henson’s Muppet Vision 3D. The rain started again so it made sense to go to this ride, I think everyone had the same idea as it was fairly busy but we managed to get a seat ok. We found this show good but after seeing Mickey’s Philharmagic it didn’t compare! After we saw the show we walked towards the star tours ride. Mark loved the big models as he is a big star wars fan; we found the ride fun too. After we did the ride we walked around for a while window shopping, our favourite shop was the villains in vogue shop. We bought a Disney villain poster and some sweets aka ‘candy’. And then headed towards the exit as we wanted to get to our resort so we could get an early night as we would be getting married in 1 day and we were going to do our first full day in a park tomorrow (MK) so we wanted to catch up on some sleep. The rest of the report for MGM is based on all our trips to MGM and not one specific day.
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular was a great show and a good opportunity for a sit down and to escape the sun for a while. Mark had just bought an ice lolly before we went to watch the show and it was melting before he could eat it from the heat. We don’t normally like it too hot when we are back in the UK but it was different for some reason in WDW we enjoyed the basking in the heat.
Mark also loves the Indiana film so watching this show was a treat for him; we enjoyed the show though we only watched it once when we were there but we will definitely se it again when we go back this year.
All the effects we thought were quite good and we liked the ‘extras’ from the audience bit also. I enjoyed the bit at the start where he has the fire torch and spikes start to come up in the ground, I was gasping! I have always had a slight crush on Indiana so I was very happy to watch him to a few good stunts for half an hour. An obvious thing I loved was the ball scene in which he runs away from the moving ball. I just loved the whole show really; I won’t say too much more about it in case people reading this haven’t been yet. Lets just say it’s a really good show, well we thought so anyhow. If you liked the film you will love it, and if you didn’t or have never seen them you will still enjoy the show.
Who wants to be a millionaire was another good show and a chance to sit down and escape the heat.
We found this show good fun but we struggled on some of the questions as they were aimed for an American audience. However Mark did a lot better then me and it gave us the chance to experience being on the show. When we went the guy who was picked form the audience was very confident cheering and staggering as he walked to his seat but once he started to play we went silent! I guess even thee most confident feel the pressure of it once in the hot seta. The guy who presented it was good too and interacted well with the audience.
This is mark waiting for the show to start. He is very shy so I had a feeling that even if he did know the answers that he would have delayed his responses as his worst nightmare would be to get picked and go up on stage.
This is me waiting for the show to start!
I really liked the One Mans Dream exhibition, there is so much to see, I advise anyone to take there time if they are a Disney fan to read all the bits as its really interesting. I loved looking at the old pictures of Walt and his brother; they really did have it tough when they tried to create their Disney films. Walt persisted and that is why we have WDW today, I think its worth a look. There is allsorts to look at; I liked the miniatures of the castles and some of the rides.
This is mark standing near a hedge version of Mickey. In a lot of pictures of Mark he tends to look blinded by the sun he really should remember to bring his sunglasses with him!
This is me, if you wonder why I am sat funny this is because I had a short skirt on and had sat down for the photo and quickly realised I was not acting very ladylike so quickly shuffled into a new pose. My hair is also still all up in curls from our MK morning photo shoot that we had.
We went into the Honey shrunk the Kids Movie adventure for a quick nosey, maybe this is something we should do again when we have children?
We didn’t see the Lights Motors Action Extreme stunt show as we had seen in Paris and believe it or not in 18 days we just didn’t have time to see everything. Trust me you really can’t do everything in WDW in one trip there is just so much to do. We hope to see this when we go this year.
I went of the Rock and Roller Coaster ride though Mark did not, this was another chance for him to study the map and have a well deserved break. I loved this ride but I think I only rode it twice! How was this possible? I must ride this a lot more when we go back. The part I hate the most of rollercoaster’s is the bit where you go up at the start so the fact that you get shot up in seconds made it my favourite rollercoaster ever! The rock music in your seat really added to the effect also. I know my DH would like this ride if he just gave it a chance but he can be stubborn.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the Backlot tour, this was really good and I enjoyed the pre-show in which audience members are chosen to take part in a film. That was really funny, luckily we didn’t get picked, I think Mark would have been so embarrassed if we had of been. The tour itself is really interesting and you get to see all sorts of prompts from films which is really cool. I love the water bit also! I get wet every time from this as mark always sits in the middle somehow and me at the side. Mark really enjoyed this ride too.
Just who hasn’t done this pose?
I’m ringing in the rain…
We did the fantasmic dinner package, for us this is something that we won’t do again. Maybe we just had a bad experience I don’t know but we would much prefer to buy a paper and some snacks and wait in the fantasmic seats for the show to start. In fact we saw this show 3 times after we did the dinner package and we did this every time. We waited for a long time as we went once the gates were opened and waited until the show started. We always had front row seats so it was worth the wait. With the dinner package the seats that we were allocated for us were on the far right hand side and better seats were available so we got up and went to the middle and got a front seat. We are also fussy eaters so the meals choices for us were limited; we ate at Mama Melrose’s ristorsnte italiano as we thought this would be the best for us. We had pizza for starter and Pizza for our main meal…yes you read that right we had pizza for both our starter and main, our waitress also seemed baffled by this but that is what we wanted. She seemed really rude to us and that was before we did our order, maybe she was having a busy / bad day I don’t know but it put us off the restaurant. The pizza itself was nice and less sickly then some others that we had had.
I absolutely loved Fantasmic, both me and Mark agreed that it was probably our favourite show we had ever seen. I bought the CD for this show and have listened to it on many occasions since we got home. I look forward to seeing this show again. On one occasion when we saw the show and we were racing to the front of the queue that was walking to all the seats I practically ran and left my DH behind, now before you all judge me can I please let you u know I suffer from poor hearing (my dh tells me that it is ‘selective hearing but honestly I do have a problem) I was racing ahead with the mission of getting our usual seats that I was unaware of anything else happening around me. When I saw my seat I started to rush, the CM at the entrance looked a little baffled to see me but I just ran passed them and sat down. Minutes later my DH sat down beside me and looked red and flustered. It turned out that a young girl had been told that she could be the first person to get into the arena as it was her birthday, I had dashed passed them as they were walking too slow…ooops! I hadn’t heard mark shouting at me and was totally shocked when he told me, I felt really sorry for the girl and felt sheepish for the rest of the show. I still feel guilty about that when I think about it now. When we go back this year we plan to watch fantasmic at least 3/5 times as we loved it that much and felt it finished a night off perfectly.
Here is a picture of Mark in MGM
I always try and do daft poses; Mark is also often forced to do them too. Here I am kissing the fish near the Voyage of the little Mermaid show. This was a good show and I will see it again on our next trip. The lady who was Ariel was really good and I loved singing along with the characters. It’s a good chance to have a rest and cool off.
This is mark fulfilling his and many other star wars fan dream.
This is Mark meeting Donald; we met so many characters on our trip and got plenty of signatures too. Mark said that the interaction with the characters was a lot better then what he though it would be as he thought that they would only be attentive with children. However with us they were still really interactive and made us feel special and didn’t rush us at all.
The Sounds Dangerous starring Drew Carey was a little slow for us but I think we would enjoy this more if we had children, we will still do it again as its all part of the Disney experience.
We enjoyed the parade at MGM, all the characters in the posh cars and suits was great and I liked the fact that Start Wars characters were in this as it made it slightly different from other parades. When we watched this it rained and rained. The characters had umbrellas, I was surprised that they didn’t cancel it but they didn’t. We managed to capture it again another time which was better as we got to enjoy it a bit more.
One of the best characters that we met whilst in WDW was fantasmic Mickey, there was no queue to meet him at all so that was great! We had lots of pictures with him and a lovely CM took a photo of us all together.
