We are travelling just after the new year to arrive on January 2nd. What resort has the best holiday decorations as we would like to see them if at all possible. This year we are able to see the Osborne Family lights as they go on till January 8th.

Also does the Marathon effect reservations as DVC ? We plan to say in two resorts while we are there and cannot make our mind up!

Thanks

VWL gets my vote.

Mine too. We spent Christmas of 2003 there and it was amazing. The other resorts look great but the VWL looks the best IMHO.

Christmas decorations is why we bought our points at VWL.

Well, that and that Pacific Northwest feel. :flower:

Even the villas are decorated for Christmas (year round). Christmas trees and Rudolph (the red-nose reindeer) are in the tiles in the bathroom-in red and green no less! Christmas trees in the dining room chairs.... well, you get the point. :wave2:

The VWL, BWV and BC all look spectacular.

The WL has an impressive lobby tree and lit animals and the VWL has a nice lobby tree
The BW has an enormous amount of old-fashioned ornaments and gingerbread village and a wonderful tree outside in the park area
The BC has a gingerbread carousel and the BCV has a nice lobby tree

Of course, there are swags and wreaths and extra touches all around at each resort.

I think calling one "the best" is a matter of personal preference. You can't go wrong with any of them for the feel of Christmas.

I haven't seen OKW and SSR.

DITTO!!

we haven't stayed at the holidays, but a few years ago we were at OKW right after Thanksgiving, and it was my goal to get over to VWL to see the tree!!! What a site, beautiful, fire burning in the fireplace, doesn't get any better!

I'd stay at BWV - because you can walk to see the Osborne lights, and you may want to see them more than once!

I'd certainly visit VWL, and all of the EPCOT resorts to see their decorations. I'd try to make time to see those at the GF, too. Keep in mind that while the Lights may run to January 8, the decorations in the resorts and parks disappear very quickly after New Year's Day. Don't wait until the end of your stay to go see them.

People ask what is the best resort for Holiday decorations - and I smile. What difference does it make? You can (and should) visit as many of the deluxe resorts as you can during the season. You don't need to stay at a particular one - unless you wont have time to visit any other resrt. that would be a shame!

Best wishes-

P.S. I think you will find the DVC resorts (as well as many of the other WDW resorts) full at Marathon time, so make your reservation as soon as you can.

I have to agree with most here that VWL is the place for the best holiday decor! OKW & BWV have (to my mind) very ho hum decorations, but I usually enjoy the BC holiday decor.

We will be there at the same time as you! We are doing another NYE at WDW, so we arrive 12/31 and go home 1/10.

The Marathon does make a slight bump in attendance, but is never an issue. We have occationaly run into (pun intended) the marathon runners as they traverse the parks.

BTW, I think the Osborne family lights are fine, but maybe a bit overrated. I hardly missed them the year they were gone.

Haven't seen it yet, but will this year. From what I've heard VWL wins this in a landslide.

If you want to see beautiful decorations, I agree that BCV, VWL, and BWV are all great. However, I've gotta say that when I saw all the decorations at OKW- guest-initiated christmas lights around the windows, Christmas trees in villas, it really put a smile on my face.

As with most resort questions, it's a matter of taste. They're all wonderful. We always spend time seeing them all, combining a meal with a tour of the lobby and property and maybe some relaxation in a rocking chair or sitting in a lobby listening to the music. You can spend a lovely evening dining at one of the Epcot resorts and taking a leisurely walk around the waterfront to visit the others. Before or after a meal we take a close look at the decorations, hunt for hidden Mickeys and enjoy the ambience. Absolutely the best time of the year!

I agree that VWL is the best place to be at Christmas. I had a studio there last Christmas, and WOW! I spent my days sitting around the fireplace in the lobby and reading a book. It was awfully chilly anyway, and it was the most relaxing trip we have ever had. Oddly enough, I don't like VWL in the summer, but at Christmas, it's wonderful!
