We are planning our first trip to Disneyland this summer and we were wondering which guide book people would recommend.

Thanks for the ideas.

These 2 are the best:

Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort 2006

The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2006

The first Disneyland Passporter has just been released, but I haven't seen it yet.

Note: The Birnbaum 2007 Edition will be released at the beginning of October if you can wait. It contains coupons, and those will be good for all of 2007. The current coupons expire in December.'

I liked the Birnbaum guide because it has lots of pictures, and really good descriptions of each attraction, restaurant and shop, including the type of merchandise at each.

I like the Unofficial Guide for the one- and two-day touring plans; they even have different ones depending on the ages in your group, and suggestions on how to blend the plans so that everyone has fun.

Both have lots of great information, and I would get both. I have not yet seen the Passporter guide, so I am curious what people think of it and if it's worth getting if you've got one or both of the others already...?

I have the Disneyland & Southern California with Kids guide from Fodor's and really like it. I has lots of tips and insider secrets and some info on places other than Disneyland but close by. :thumbsup2

Birnbaum is good.A little sugar coated(it's a Disney publication,if i remember rightly). The unoffical guide is a little more straight forward, funnier, but in some aspects not 'quite' as informative.imho.read BOTH. :thumbsup2

I agree. BUT, I always get the Birnbaum so that it's a souvenir of the year we went on our trip. With all the photos and full maps, my DDs flip through their old WDW ones fondly :goodvibes

I found the "unofficial guide" to be almost exact to the WDW version, only much smaller. I was disappointed that they didn't go in-depth with hotel rooms like the WDW version (ie. layout, best locations, room numbers, etc.) If you don't have the WDW version, I still think it's one of the best out there. If you have the WDW version, the only thing different is the non-WDW rides.
