Don't know if the restaurants section is the best place to post this, so Mods can feel free to move to most appropriate board...

I recently went on a WDW trip with my GF and her family this past October and loved the food. Especially California Grill (for our 1 (y)EAR anniversary).

Anyway, I'm looking for a cookbook that best captures the dishes at WDW. I saw on eBay and Amazon a bunch of different ones.

Chef Mickey- Recipes from the Vault captured my attention, but throught I'd throw it out there for more seasoned DIS'ers.

Optimally the book would have current dishes/restaurants as well as traditional favorites of the past.

Thanks!!

I'd hesitate to say that any one cookbook is the best, partially because things change. For example, my favorite is "Cooking with Mickey Around the World" but it was published in the late-1980's, so none of the new restaurants or recipes are in that cookbook and it features a number of locations and recipes that are no longer in use. "Chef Mickey - Treasures from the Vault & Delicious New Favorites" is a good cookbook too, but it was published back in 2010, so even that one is not very "current". Signature menus (like CA Grill) change on a seasonal basis, so the menus change and what was "new" in 2010 may not even be on the menu anymore! Still, a book like "Chef Mickey - Treasures from the Vault & Delicious New Favorites" is a good one to have in your collection.

The Disney Food Blog did a run down of some of the cookbooks back in 2013. It's a fun read and might help you decide if there are any other books you'd want to look for.

I have the cookbook " Chef Mickey Treasures from the Vault" and sadly I can not find anything from the California grill.

I did bake the Cobblestone cheesebread from the Yacht Club yesterday, and it was excellent!

The menus at the signature restaurants (e.g. California Grill) changewith the seasons so it's hard to say if what you had in October is still on the menu. If there is something you especially liked you can send an email to DW asking for the recipe.

The "Chef Mickey - Treasures from the Vault and Delicious New Favorites" by Pam Brandon & the Disney Chefs (2010) has a nice selection of frequently requested recipes and old favorites. The recipes from the California Grill are "Grouper with Asian Vegetables, Sticky Rice & Ginger-Soy Broth," "Grilled Pork Tenderloin," "Lemongrass Risotto" and from the Vault ""Top of the World Dressing."

There is a new cookbook that was just released according to the Disney Parks Blog:
http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...from-disney-parks-resorts-disney-cruise-line/
and another one coming out soon:

The previously linked allears page has an extensive collection of Disney recipes. The disboards has a recipe thread as well down on the Cooking forum. If you scroll down to post 15 in the Index thread it lists the recipes from Cali Grill. Unfortunately when the board moved 2 weeks ago all the page numbers on the Index thread that link to the recipes no longer match. The recipes are still there, but you'll have to hunt to find the recipes (e.g. the Grilled Pork Tenderloin recipe that was on page 68 is now on page 51). This Grilled Pork Tenderloin recipe matches the one in the Chef Mickey Treasures from the Vault cookbook.

I actually have all but one of the cookbooks in the Food Blog article linked by figment_jii. I'm missing the "Magic Kitchen Cooking" one. I use the "Cooking with Mickey - Gourmet Mickey Cookbook Vol II a lot, but it was originally published way back in 1991 and maybe reprinted in 2001 so you won't find current recipes in it. The "Mickey's Gourmet Cookbook" is the exact same one, but has regular binding instead of spiral bound. I also use the even older "Cooking with Mickey Around our World" (1987) regularly.

Some of the cookbooks mentioned in the Food Blog article are still available at the parks and the parks' mail order merchandising (877 560-6477) even if they show as out of print on amazon. I feel like I saw "Chef Mickey - Treasures from the Vault," "Delicious Disney," "Delicious Disney Desserts," "Delicious Disney Holidays" and a couple of the kids' cookbooks last fall in the park.

I think the older cookbooks have more recipes that I would actually make. They also have more recipes in general. The newer books have great photography, but the recipes seem like they haven't really been revised for the home cook.

We recently had the plum wine glazed salmon from Kona. The salmon was atop a sticky rice cake that had been grilled. It had black sesames. I literally could not stop eating it, it was SO GOOD. Any recipes out there for this fabulous dish? I'm mostly interested in how to make that grilled rice cake
(Togarashi-cured Salmon)

Instead of buying a cookbook I just email WDW and ask for the recipe if there is something I really like. It can take a long time to receive, at least a few months, but they are always really great at getting back with you (sometimes it's to say that they are not able to provide the recipe but they do always respond).

Like @purple figment, I use "Cooking with Mickey - Gourmet Mickey Cookbook, Vol II" a lot. The recipes are tasty, not too complicated, and just feel "Disney," if you know what I mean. They make the family happy.

Also, along with @purple figment, I'd give a shout out to the "Chef Mickey - Treasures from the Vault and Delicious New Favorites by Pam Brandon & the Disney Chefs." I think this one has a really appealing mix of recipes, with lots of good ones from the resorts, but I don't seem to cook the dishes as I do with the other cookbook. Maybe the recipes are a little more complicated or require more unusual ingredients? Or maybe I'm too lazy? Anyhow, I really enjoy "Cooking with Mickey, Vol II."

Looking over the list from the food blog, I guess I have most of the books. I never knew that.

They usually have one for F&W that has many of the F&W recipes.
