Best Counter Service at Hollywood Studios??

Just had a thought...can you get 50's Prime Time food to go? I've heard that you can get the milk shakes to go.

On my last trip, I was on the CS Dining plan and Staring Rolls was a very good lunch. The sandwich was good, I got fruit, an orange, instead of the chips, and one of the better deserts for the week. For dinner I had the southwest chicken salad someone else mentioned. I thought it was also good. Otherwise, I've never had a bad meal at DHS, just nothing I'd consider great.

Don't think so....milk shakes and all other drinks can be put in a to-go cup tho!

Of the DHS CS restaurants, I've tried:

ABC Commissary, and it was bad. All 8 of us at the table agreed that it was the worst meal we'd ever had at Disney.

Pizza Planet, and it was okay. The pizza will not win any awards, but it was fresh and hot.

Backlot Express, and it was pretty good. I've been there twice, most recently in January. The avocado cheeseburger sounded much better than it really was...it was pretty bland.

For our next vacation, I'm considering planning our DHS day where we won't be in the park for lunch. I'm hoping that someone will bust out a rave review of something I haven't considered yet!

Iv'e tried Backlot express and ABC commissary they are good but I usually just get a turkey leg (outa pocket no DDP) and move along

We like pizza planet. DH got a meatball sub last time we went. He had to cut it up and eat it with a fork in order to not get it all over his shirt, but he liked it well enough. DS and I both got the pizza. It was good but to much food! The salads that came with the adult meals were pretty good, but standard fare at WDW you can get anywhere.

Backlot Express has a good grilled turkey panini (I think that's what its called). The whole-grain bread is (to me) what sells it and I can't find it anywhere!

I like the Backlot Express since they redid their menu. The only downfall is that it is outdoors so there isn't any relief from the heat.

We always stop at Starring Rolls for something sweet!

Inside seating is just rather limited at Backlot Express. One of the exits of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular seems to funnel traffic right into the lower seating areas of Backlot (and on into the restaurant). I've found getting indoor seating slightly easier if you go right before or during one of the Epic shows.

Unrelated to Backlot Express, but I was thinking about Studio Catering Co's new sandwiches and wraps menu-- I've only been able to try the Buffalo Chicken one so far, it was good but more than anything I felt like I got a lot of food for my money. The sandwich seemed huge and plate seemed loaded with fries (or whatever the side was).

Have to agree with others who said HS definitely has the weakest CS restaurants. I really don't love any of them. I say skip lunch and just go straight for the Red Velvet cupcake at Starring Rolls. Tasty and HUGE! It will definitely fill you up.

I'll take this one step further; ABC Commisary is one of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered ANYWHERE. The only one I can recall that was worse is the taco salad I had at a Chi Chi's years ago that had some crawling little white critters on it. At least at ABC everthing was dead in the sandwich, it just tasted like it may have been dead too long.

I haven't read all the posts yet, but you get the point that the food there stinks. I don't get it. I wish they would build the OLD Tusker House, with roasted chicken and cheesecake from AK, there.
About the only thing my kids--and they'd eat an old onion ring off the ground--and I will eat there anymore are the turkey legs. Stand by TOT and RRRC. You can get a drink and chips there. Fries are available next door.

I agree with you about ABC Commissary. I ordered the burger there, which is my litmus test. It was the most mediocre thing I've had at Disney. The burgers at Pecos Bills would hit the top of the scale; this would hit bottom. I know some people like the chicken curry, but curries and I don't get along.

I'd get a sandwich at Starring Rolls as an option. I find the food I had at 50's Prime Time and Brown Derby to be good, much better than a counter service option.

I'd leave the park and go to Picabu at the Dolphin before doing counter service at DHS.

I do want to the curry,will this be the year??

The BBQ Sandwich at Backlot Express is terrible!

I've about given up on eating at DHS.

May I suggest, Hurricane Hannah's at the Beach Club or the ESPN Club / or the Brew Pub at the Boardwalk.

There are several good options at Epcot near the boat dock. There is a fish and chips place in the UK, a great pastry shop in France, and an interesting mediteranean platter in morocco.

For lunch we used to only eat at the ABC Comm. but last year we tried Pizza Planet and I was pleasantly surprised! It was delicious, with a generous portion.

For Dinner, my family has decided that they like Mama Melrose, so we are going there again this year.

Another big thumbs up for Catalina Eddie's! We get the great hot Italian sandwich every trip. Also make a point of Starring rolls. The Combo plate at Fairfax Faire is nearly the same as he one that everyone raves about at Cosmic Rays at MK. Plenty of good food at DHS, just not as much as Epcot.

I'm not a fan of the any of quick service at DHS. I go for a turkey leg at the park or take the boat ride to Boardwalk or Beach Club/Yacht Club to go eat.

Yes always good stuff to eat in Epcot but make sure you have park hopper or you'll waste a park day just to eat.

I was going to say the same thing, except substitute the Butterfinger cupcake for the Red Velvet. It was the most amazing cupcake experience of my life. I got the focaccia sandwich there too and it was quite good. It was big enough that two of us could split it.
