I am thinking of getting a new laptop for work and of course, alittle VMK.

So, in addition to what I need for work, what would be the best to play VMK with? Keep in mind I usually play more than one character at a time. So, I know I need a fast computer.

Give me your opinion... you can break it up into sections (will work, pretty good and the ridiculously gaming computers).

Thanks!

I have a Toshiba Sattellite A-135
It is a Pentium duo core 1.7 Ghz with 1 Gig of RAM(upgradeable to 2gig)
I run it on a (internal)wireless network and the way it is is the way it came out of the box last April.
I am currently on with 4 characters via VMK Pal, on AOL AND have and IE browser open for dis.
This is the best laptop I have ever owned, I have had a Dell XPS, and 2 different Compaqs the main reason I don't have them anmore is because they didnt run VMK well.
The ONLY issue I have is that I absolutly HATE Vista.
Got it at Best buy, and I LOVE it

Well...I wont give you an exact brand but I will say the following:

You need a really decent amount of memory/RAM to run VMK with out some of the errors that have been mentioned before on the board. Even more so if your going to be doing other things on your computer and internet while being on VMK at the same time. Sometimes even clearing history, cookies and cache before playing aren't enough. Also I've heard some really bad things about Vista. I can't tell you first hand because I use a Mac for artistic purposes. I've heard of alot of people downgrading back to XP. But I also don't really suggest getting a Mac unless you have other reasons to get one due to prices in computer as well as programs. Also there is no way to open ".exe" [Windows] files on a Mac, this includes VMK Pal. Hope some of that helped! :)

Thank you thank you. I am not going to get Vista (for other reasons) and the only computer that you can choose what you get is Dell.

I currently use a Dell Latitude and it has 1 gig of memory and run on a wireless network and it can run 4 characters at once but it does not last long before it tells me I am low on virtual memory.

I was wondering about VMKpal. Does that make it easier to run more than one character at once? Do you open another window like you do normally (control + N)?

I have a Toshiba labtop with 2 GB of ram and a 160 GB of memory and I have never had any problems with VMK. I haven't had any problems crashing with games or lag or anything else! I had a Dell before and had lots of problems with it and VMK and I've tried playing on many other types of computers and have also had lots of problems. I had soooo many problems with that Dell so I will never get a Dell again. The customer service wasn't too great the many, many times I needed it either. You'll probably want at least 2 GB of ram to ensure smooth running. I also have Vista and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Never had a problem and would never go back to XP. My fiance has a Gateway desktop with Vista, 3 GB of ram and 500 GB of memory and it works pretty well too...hasn't had any problems with Vista either. I wouldn't be afraid of Vista. I know lots of people who have it and have never had problems. It's different, but it is so much better. Hope that helps!

VMK PAL is just a user interface for VMK
It allows you to take quick screenshots and store usernames and passwords
otherwise its pretty much the same.
I Crash when I play mansion and Use IE so Pal is great I dont crash.
Also if your playing pirates and get click happy there is nothing really to click "By accident" in PAL, when I used to play in IE I would click on a toolbar and get tossed off of VMK to whatever I clicked on by mistake lol

OH and Pal Centers the window in Full screen mode which is pretty nice.

Just make sure you have a good internet connection and have a computer with plenty of RAM.
