Best Cell Phone for My Disney Experience

I am in the market for a new cell phone, and am thinking about our upcoming trip in November and was wondering, what cell phone works the best with My Disney Experience, Fast Pass+, etc. I am on the Verizon system, and am looking to stay with them if possible

I wouldn't recommend choosing a phone based on MDE alone. It's buggy on all mobile platforms at the moment anyway.

I agree with both previous posters. I would not base my decision only on MDE, but when I was down there, I didn't have many problems using my iPhone, only the usual. But then again, I personally would not consider any other phone than an iPhone, but I know other people have their own opinions on the matter.

Oddly enough, the only experience I have with MDE on an iPhone was miserable. At school yesterday (so both of us were on the school Wi-Fi, which means it wasn't a network coverage issue), he could not get any maps to load at all on his iPhone, but my Galaxy S3 had no problems at all. In fact, he even got so fed up with his iPhone (no idea what version of the iPhone he has) that he just grabbed mine and started messing around with it.

So choosing a phone based solely on MDE is probably not a good idea, because there isn't one that it works better on than the other.

While I agree with Mesaboy that you shouldn't buy a phone solely because of how well it runs MDE, if you travel frequently to Disney it can be a factor in your decision. I don't know about it working the best but the Motorola Droid Maxx has a 3500mah battery and is expected to last 48 hours in typical use. So, it should easily last a day in the parks.

I actually like using MDE on the iPhone more than the computer. Linking tickets is MUCH easier, and everything just seems to work. It's not very fast though.

Also, there's a rumor out the that the iPhone is due for an update but the android version will be later this year.

We've had Verizon for a long time, and use the MDE app multiple times a day at least 3 days per week. (we're retired and spend Winter 20 min from wdw).

We haven't had any problems with MDE.

FWIW, MDE works on the new BlackBerry phones as well. I won't say it works fast, but it does work.

I'd say the best thing to run it on would be an Android tablet, if your purpose is just to use that app... :)

Galaxy S4 is good, I find it to work well.

Whatever phone you get, consider getting one with a replaceable battery. The MDE, along with other usage, can drain a battery in short order. Much easier to just pop a new fully charged battery in than either looking around for an electrical outlet and being tied to it for whatever length of time. Or the alternative, having a battery charger hooked up to your phone with cables etc while you walk around.

I will likely never buy a phone without a replaceable battery.

I have an iPhone, I was using it this morning with no problem, looking at wait times, reservations, etc (we were planning when to book our FP's).

PP mentioned a upgrade for the app for iPhone which will be released soon. Android will be released later this year, maybe September?

My iPhone is over 2 yrs old (it is a 4S), I have a Mophie case that is also an extra battery pack. It works great if I need to extend the battery life. I have not had an issue before, but have not used MDE in the park. You can turn the extra charger on or off, depending on where you want the phone to be powered from.

I have been using iPhones for 4 yrs now, and really like them. I have friends who like their android phone, although she had problem with the app this morning on her phone while we were planning. I think she has the note or something, not as big as the galaxy.

If you do go with android, be aware since it is an open platform, a lot of the manufacturers and the carriers will add their own software (they call it bloatware) which affects the amount of memory actually available for your use, if that is something that is important to you. I have heard quite a few complaints about that recently.

Love my Android system. I am a Verizon customer too and use a Samsung phone. No problem with the app at all.

There are too many factors that can affect how the app runs to choose a phone based on that apps performance.

It ran fine on my Galaxy S4 Mini, but running the MDE app wasn't in my top 50 requirements when I bought the phone. ;)

Well I think it comes down to the following:
Carry around a nice small phone with solid OS = iPhone
Carry around a laptop I mean tablet I mean Cell phone = Android (lol sorry those phones are getting so damn big now that it takes me back to when the iPad was released and everyone was trying to joke about how it was a phone)

I have an iPhone but in the end sounds like people have mixed reviews on both phones. All i know is my 4 android phones (droid, charge, thunderbolt, some other one) could never hold up to my iPhone 5 and how solid the OS is as I was constantly having crashing issues due to apps not always being as thoroughly tested and causing stability issues.

It was equally buggy and unreliable on my Droid Razr Maxx, my wife's iPhone 5, my daughter's older iPod Touch and our Windows laptop.

Thank you all for the input. You have given me a lot to mull over. My decision on cell phone is not solely based on the app, but I was hoping to use the app when down there.
